  1. My partner doesn't play bass. Lol... Maybe I cam persuade her to try..

Though thinking about I really don't think his thumb has any bearing on his playing...

It's all in the fingers and in this case heavy use of studio equipment.

But you can't knock a great tone.. Which is what it is.. :)..

    Are you sure about that?

Blend controls should work so the mid point is maximum volume for both pickups. As you move away from the centre, one pickup up fades out while the other remains at full volume.

I guess it's just a perceived volume difference that I am hearing.. As I turn the blend from center dent towards the p pickup it's perceived as louder.

Judging by the above I think my setup is an equal 50/50 split at the mid dent

On my GB I don't get this effect...they are twin humbuckers

I haven't had PJ setup before so maybe it's a characteristic of these specific custom wound set. Ie the frequencies response.

  3. Toying with the the idea of upgrading my Shukers 2 band eq. Atm it's set up with a volume and a blend.

Issue with this is I can't have all of the P pickup with some of J.. Just a equal mix of them both at the mid dent.

Changing this to a volume volume configuration can solve this.

But is it really going to make a massive difference?

My theory is it will as I can have both pups running full volume and still take advantage of the eq...
But on the flip side would it interfere with balance / tone / phasing of the pickups.?

Any advice as always is very welcome

    Ben

Been doing a little research today and on paper the Audere Classic is looking like a good option, anyone using the Classic?

I've played a jazz with this fitted and the was sublime.. Doesn't have tone shaping like the z switch but the frequencies are well chosen.

And I'd agree with the above statements. The East is quite expensive but the quality is outstanding and it does come with some very nicely made knobs to boot.

For what your after I'd say the Audere is better suited but as mentioned John cam make you a circuit to your requirements and the price doesn't go sky high either. Especially if you want to omit certain features

That Push songs bass line reminds me of Tower of Power - What is Hip

Which since I love playing that tune I feel the urge to break out the funky axe tonight and learn this beauty

  6. I thinks definitely worth the outlay

Have a look at auderes pre amps as well. They are quite a bit less than the east units but of comparable quality.

Auderes are also less 'coloured' than the east's. Their website is crammed full of information... Albeit in a slightly non user friendly way.

It's all dependant on your needs.

  7. On tab sites

I usually try and learn a song by ear.. It's good practice and aids in learning every aspect of your playing.

I do tend to cross reference with tab sites to see I am right or wrong.

They are useful if you can't quite work out what a chord is.

As mentioned most of these works are produced by budding musicians and distributed for such.

And tbh when you search a song and you see version 1 2 3 4 5 6 8 then you can rest assured these aren't the most accurate things in the world.

So why are you voting for GB?
    [/quote]

Re read my post and it doesn't make sense does it lol

    I'll try and explain
Due to the fact that my GB IV is still the best bass I have ever played (in my opinion). I am not knocking the quality of the craftsmanship at all. So they deserve a vote...

Same way lots of people adore Jon Shukers basses but his build times can be slightly advantageous but still doesn't detract from the finished product.

    :) hope that helps

  9. For me it's gotta be Jon Shuker and Bernie at GB.

I must say this I must be one of the lucky ones who has has impeccable service from Mr Shuker over the years

GB however get my vote for the worst customer service I have encountered.. But that's a different story.

  10. That's lovely :) one of my favourite top woods

Worst decision I ever made was selling my Shuker 5 Elite I had made every time I see a Shuker 5 listed I always check to see if I can be reunited

Very Happy with my Shuker Horn Bass now

    Good Luck with the sale

  11. Okay there's a few bands :P

    Ben Folds Five
    Ruben
    Death Cab for Cuties
    Pearl Jam
    No Doubt
    Supertramp
    Minus the Bear
    Placebo
    Porcupine Tree
    Dave Matthews Band

    Solo Artist wise

    Ben Folds
    Alanis
    Tori Amos
    Rachel Yamataga
    John Mayer
    Jeff Buckley
    Scott Matthews

    The list goes on

If I had to choose only 1

    It be Ben Folds

  12. If it's one of Jons preamps it should have jumpers on the circuit itself. have you played around with this to cut and boosts the mids

Jon should also tweak the frequencies for you.. Boosting or cutting to your liking..

If this issue is just with then passive side maybe it similar to the following all be it on a active bass

I had a similar issue with my GB however as Jon showed me when in had it setup. The setup it had meant the string was vibrating outside of the pickup poles on some strings thus giving an uneven tone . I guess because it's in passive mode this is more noticeable. Subtleties and all

Once setup it's now spot on.

Just a thought hope this helps

    :)
