Thanks just thought it would be a nice change to the normal
Really liking the purple hue applied to this Vigier flamed maple neck
Dingwall pictures are interesting.... Will have do more searching hehe
Cheers -
So I am still putting together a spec for a new bass and I am really hankering after a really lovely purple finish to adorn maybe a quilt or curly maple top (or something a bit more exotic)
Not many good images around the web (guess it's a pain to photograph)
There nearest I've found to something I like is a Calvin 'Purple Stain'.. They says it's a popular finish???

So show us your purple beauties?
This is only gonna make my GAS Attack even more fierce

That's better
I am numpty -
So I was researching tonewoods and such for my new bass that I planned to have built by Jon Shuker.
Fingerboards?
My GB has a Black as can be Ebony fingerboard...Now I've played maple, ovangkol , Pau Ferro and the like and love Ebony.....snap, bright, nice finish etc etc
Came across this on Sadowsky's website, I am sure many of you have seen it but it's a interesting and inspirational vid, make me wanna go with Jon's composite or Phenolic fingerboard as they are designed to mimic Ebony (I am led to believe). Though I have to say I like the variation in colour on the Guitar he is holding...I think its great !! and I doubt the tone is any difference. Aesthetics like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder...
Anyway worth a watch if you care about where your Bass comes from

Thanks for all the advice going to defo just 1/4 of a turn and leave it a few days
Jon has signed off for new year (he deserves a few days break)
And defo a good pointer in making a note on the adjustments
Shall do this tonight when I get back from work and see how it goes.

I recently had my 4 string GB repaired and set up by Jon Shuker who did a sterling job. Bass played like butter
However his workshop isn't the warmest in the world (its amazing how some of the best makers have to make do with a industrial unit with no heating in order to make a living and still turn out top classes instruments.. Hats off to him)
A few days later and my bass now has acclimatised and the action has gone low..resulting in major fret buzz.. Frets 1-10 across all string but interestingly its worst of the E and G
I'll admit to not being a master when it come setting up.. He sorted the saddle height for me and I am reluctant to start raising the saddles
So I am thinking of adjusting the truss rod 1/4 maybe 1/2 turn?
Is this the best course of action?
Any help as always greatly appreciated
Cheers Ben -
When I bought it, it did have a set of Nordie's with it, I actually got a offered a really good price for them, so I let them go. I placed them in the bass and tried it and tbh, I prefered the sound of the Bart's it came with. More of a dirty sound when pushed hard which at the time was what I was after.
The Drop-D was fitted when I bought it, can't say that I use it much but the E-String doesn't go out of tune, which is what I have found with other Drop-D Leavers.
What goes around certainly comes around.
Someday I hope my old Shuker comes up for sale again. I regret selling that bass. Infact the proceeds from that sale went into the Roscoe.
5 strings for me was too much..!! lol -
I bought my GB from Bernie at Show at the NEC way back in 99''
Still IMO the best bass I have ever played and it make me a more inspirational and better player (though that's probably in my head).
Nothing sounds quite like a GB and I for sure will never be parting with my Sparkly beaut -
That's a bit of a twist of faith don't you think
It was defo an Ebay purchase and I remember it being a bit of a bargain... I picked it up from a Wedding Reception you were playing at.
PM me with the details.
It's not that I dislike the Roscoe, actually its been my workhorse for the past 18 months...
But you know how things are when you see shiny and things staring back at you -
Its been a while since I've posted online, its good to have rediscovered an old friend. So old in fact that I couldn't remember my password and my previous account was linked to a now defunct email address. Anywho..Its good to be back.
After visiting Jon today at his workshop (He's kindly mending my GB), I am eager to have another one of his splendid basses.....
He built me a 5 String a good few years ago.. Bolt-On Elite..
<--- its on the website :oD
I must say its one of the finest basses I have ever laid my hands (or eyes) on......
Question is affording sucha instrument again, Though this time I am thinking more along the lines of
I have a lovely Roscoe SKB 3004 (yes a rare 4 String version)
I have had it for a number of years and I was just wondering what these basses go for these days. A quick search on the classified here doesn't really get me much further on. There isn't one for sale that I can find....Any ideas peeps
Please feel free to shout at me if I have posted this in the wrong section..

Love this Shuker J custom.. In fact Jon is gonna be building my new bass for me. I already have a stupidly
Glittery GB... But it's darn sexy, as far as I am aware the paint used on that bass was from America. Jon uses custom car paint for some of finishes. Very classy
Keep them rolling peeps
Purple Envy
BigRedX that is 1 sweet and simple bass..
