1. I rolled my car to The Cults version of Born to Be Wild. Whilst hanging upside with the engine stalled, the smell of petrol and water running out of the radiator the dominating sound was the chorus kicking in. That was soon turned off!
  2.
Ok, I've got an audition on thursday, and I'm wondering whether to bother or not. To be honest, I'm not sure I can be bothered with the hassle of gigging again, it's been a couple of years since I've been in a gigging band and I don't think I miss it much. The songs they want me to do don't exactly inspire me much either: Johnny B Goode Brown Eyed Girl Stuck In The Middle With You Take It Easy Wishing Well Sweet Home Alabama Ok, all easy enough to play, but not really my cup of meat! So, is any old band better than no band? Should I wait around for another 2 years for the right band, or should I bite the bullet and get my head down and play 90 minutes of music that leaves me cold every saturday night? BTW, if you play in a rock covers band, there is nothing wrong with that, it's just that I am a bit of a folkie at heart....
That looks like a set list from Rocksmith! I was thinking "is that how the band learned those songs?" but then reading the Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band bit I guess not. There's no point being miserable for doing something you're meant to love. It will only end up in resentment and disillusionment. I'd wait out for something that really floats your boat.
  3. I spent years playing guitar, self taught with no theory. I was always writing my own songs and they were composed through feel and in some case trying to emulate certain sounds generated by my favourite bands. I used to play a lot with a mate but I moved away. He went on to learn some theory and to emphasise an earlier post, he demonstrated to me some of the techniques I employed without being conscious of doing do. My songs were very limited though, with many a time I would flounder because I couldn't work out where next to move the song. Theory for me is just more tools in your tool box. It enables you to have the right tools for the job and the training to use them. It doesn't stiffle creativity, for me it gives me options that I wouldn't necessarily think of. Are you a musician? I reckon so. Not every musician has the same qualities as previous post have shown with their criteria.
  4. Hoorah, it has arrived ...and only took me 10 tries to get a pic with the web cam!!!
  5.
Just out of curiosity could you let me know how exactly this number was arrived at?
Rocksmith surely ;-P I'm level 7, been playing the bass about 6 months and Rocksmith 1 week. It's a very accurate reflection on skill
  6.
Singular????
You're right. Why be that fussy! Edited accordingly lol.
  7.
Now have a dilemma, both singers (one is 18 with no real experience and the other is 24 with bags of experience and contacts) are awesome.
I know I'm a newb to the forums but isn't the answer pretty simple when you analyse what's really important? You know the strengths of each, and even your band members were struggling to choose one over the other. The answer I believe is staring you in the face. Just choose the one with the biggest breasts?
  8.
Hi Simpleman, Welcome to BC. Loads of info here, and you'll enrich the banter, I'm sure. Nice to read how you decided to take lessons after the previous experience. Lessons is good, m'kay? Enjoy! best, bert
Thank you and I'll try
Welcome Mr Simple, Better late then never eh, I've got 2 guitars here I can almost still see poking out of that pile of dust, unlike my bass rack sporting a glistening Ibanez SR1205. Metal is where its at my friend. Get out and join/form a band It's a world of difference to recording at home. Enjoy the site. Cheers Leen.
Thank you. I did play in a couple of "play for fun not gigging" bands which was great fun and so much better than sat at home like Billy no mates. In one of the bands we did release an album and made it to the rack at HMV! Blimey it was sh*te though. However I will indeed venture out once I feel more confident to destroy other peoples eardrums!

    Howdy

Hi all, Been a self taught guitarist for 25 plus years and still suck at it. Decided to get a bass for composing my own songs. Decided to take lessons instead of learning bad technique as with the guitar and I just feel stupid for not buying a bass earlier. I absolutely love it and the guitar is just collecting dust I've been playing it and taking lessons for nearly 6 months now. I'm really enjoying it and the missus says "you're so much better on that then the guitar!".....25 wasted years then, lol. I like my rock, heavy rock and a bit of metal. I'm more old school metal to be honest. I have been playing some Foo Fighters, Manic Street Preachers, Faith No More and recently Rage Against the Machine. I've managed to play quite calmly for most songs until I got onto Rage and then I couldn't help myself....so I had to welcome the blisters! I've got an Ibanez Gio and play it through the Roland V-Studio 20 as I record direct onto the computer. Haven't bothered with an amp yet as I'm leaving that to when I decided to play with others. At that point I may well upgrade the Bass too. Peace
