1. Interesting thread on Talkbass where they seem to think that you get 300W from the combo alone, due to some coil switching, which I certainly don't understand. I read this before buying the combo, expecting to get 300W from it on its own. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/nad-ibanez-promethean-p3110-little-low-end-beast-933632/
2.
Are you seriously trying to use a 110 in a band context? I wouldn't even use a 210 on its own. My minimum speaker configuration for band work would be 2 112's, 2 210's or a good 115.
Yes, I am (or was). I bought this for home use and for my band's acoustic set. At band rehearsal, we had two acoustic guitars (DI'd into the desk), a singer through the PA and me on bass - no percussion of any type at all. In my naivety, I thought the stated 300W would have been enough for that.
3.
You'll get a bit less bass response with it being elevated. Perhaps if you tried it on the floor it might have had a little more weight? Remember it won't put out the full wattage without an additional cab, having said that though, 150W at 8 Ohms, or whatever it puts into the single speaker, should still have been audible enough. Eude
We tried it on the floor, on a table, on top of a cajon, in front of a wall, in a corner. Not loud enough anywhere. Perhaps I made the mistake of believing that you get 300W from the single speaker, which woulkd have been fine.
4.
I'm happy with mine so far, but then again I didn't get it to use with the band. imo it craps all over the Ampeg Ba115 I was using before as a practice amp.
Yes - I think it's plenty loud enough for home practice, maybe even for low-volume acoustic jamming. However, the 300W seemed to evaporate into thin air last night at band practice - and that was with no drummer, not even hand percussion. I dunno, maybe I was expecting too much.
5. The saga continues: Thomann sent me a replacement. I played it at home for five days then took it to band rehearsal tonight. Two "acoustic" guitars di'd into the desk, one singer through the PA and me on bass. No drums at all. I was on max gain and max master volume, mids up, bass down on the EQ. I was only just keeping up with the band. When the drummer arrived, I didn't even bother with the Promethean - I used my B/F Compact/GK MB500 rig which I had in the car as a backup. At home, I actually preferred the tone of my Eden E10 combo. More bass, and richer than the Promethean which was middy, punchy and barky to my ears. Careful room placement helped, but I was spending a lot of time finding the best place for it - something I never had to do with the Eden. My other half, unprompted, said she preferred the tone of the Eden - "sounds deeper", she said. At band rehearsal, it was immediately apparent that I was going to struggle. I had the Promethean off the floor in a corner and was maxed out on gain, master volume and volume knob on the bass. The combo was clipping - no great surprise - and the bottom E string up to G# was causing the speaker to distort and flap. BEAD tuning would surely have been even worse. And this was with no drummer at all. I'll return the Promethean to Thomann and ask for a full refund. Very disappointing. Steve
6. The Promethean P3110 is going back to Thomann. I tried it at band rehearsal tonight and it wasn't loud enough.
7. Withdrawn from sale. I'm keeping it for home practice because the (2nd) Promethean P3110 I've had is going back to Thomann - it's not loud enough for band rehearsal.
8. Tone-rich home practice combo right here, folks.
9. So, with reference to my new Promethean combo, it seems that the sensible and easy thing to do is simply to play it at home practice volume for a few days and then take it to rehearsal. That's if it lasts that long.
10.
Did you do anything with the Line6 combo?
I gave it to a Basschatter (can't remember who) as a repair project.
11.
Tough call - 25Hz rumble or Joss Stone's latest?
Maybe cover both with some pink noise?
12. This is back up for sale. I had to temporarily withdraw it because I needed it while its replacement was sent back to Thomann and exchanged under warranty. So, let's try again. Steve

I've just taken delivery of another P3110. Thomann sent me a new one, rather than repair the old one. It's been going now for, let's see..., yep - 45 minutes. That's as long as the first one lasted, so maybe this one's going to be OK. I'm going to use it at home for practice for a few days before cranking it up at band rehearsal. Wish me luck. Steve
14.
IIRC, Ampeg suggest playing pre recorded music (such as a CD) at a reasonable volume for several hours before first use.
Well, the Promethean and I have gone through my CD selection and we've decided on Joss Stone's latest CD. We're going to play that this afternoon through the CD player on the TV and then I'll use the combo for the first time. Is that what you meant?!
15. All being well, I should get my new (warranty replacement) Ibanez Promethean combo today. If this one lasts long enough, I'd like to take it to band practice tonight. Is there such a thing as a "playing in" period for a new speaker? Steve

For the 45 minutes mine was working properly, I thought the tone was pretty middy. The Phat knob is a mid-scoop control and I ended up with it at about half-way to scoop out some of the prominent mids that seemed to give quite a "barky" tone. All that was at home though, so it'll be different in a rehearsal room. let us know how you get on with yours. Steve

My Promethean P3110 is now back at Thomann for repair or replacement. Just wondered if anybody else has got one (Highfox?) and how you're getting on with it? I need to decide quickly whether to accept a straight replacement or ask Thomann for something else. Trouble is, what would that be?
18. So much trouble - Sir John Quatermain Steam - Laura Vane and the Vipertones Pick up the pieces - Average White band Mmmm - funky..

Yeah - I'm well and truly p***ed-off this morning. I think I'll ask for a full refund and look out for a 2nd hand Minimark or Tecamp Puma, apart from the fact they'll still cost appreciably more than the Promethean. Or maybe I'll continue to take my GK MB500/Barefaced Compact rig to rehearsals.
20. I received my new P3110 from Thomann yesterday morning. It lasted 45 minutes before breaking. See: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/185862-prometheanred-subharley-benton-5110-reliability/page__st__20 starting at post number 35. Can't quite believe it. Steve
Oh, FFS - what a nightmare. This might sound partronising, but bear with me. Does the mains lead sit tightly in the socket? I mean solid-as-a-rock? No wobble at all? If not, shove it in really hard (baby!) until it locks. They're a Really snug fit.
OK - I'll try that. I have 2 mains leads so I'll try both and report back. Mutter, effing, $%@!... OK - I've just re-tried both of my power leads, ensuring that they were well-and-truly pushed home into the power socket. Same result for both - crackle, volume coming and going, then silence. I've just emailed Thomann. Thing is, I'm now wondering whether I want another one, or something else. Steve

Folks, You're not going to believe this. I took delivery of a Promethean 3110 this morning from Thomann. Of course, it came with a 2-pin plug European power lead, so I used a new UK, standard 3-pin plug power lead. Read the manual, fired up the amp and it all worked properly, as far as I could tell. Played for 45 mins while trying out different EQ settings, then had lunch. Fired it up again after lunch - oh dear. First, there was a crackling noise, then the amp lost volume, then the volume came and went randomly. I tried a different instrument lead, different power lead, different bass - all with the same result. Finally, I used my Eden E10 combo which worked perfectly as usual. So, looks like the Promethean's faulty. Going to return it to Thomann. Not sure wether I want a replacement now. Steve
24. Looking to move this on, folks. I'll entertain sensible offers above £80 and I'll include the cost of a courier to deliver it to your door if you don't want to/can't come and collect it. I'll give it a few more days on here, then I'll put it on Ebay later this week. Steve
25. Freshly hoovered and photographed this morning. Can only upload one photo though. Email me if you want to see the others. Not a mark on the combo anywhere. £95 o.n.o before I put it on Ebay. Steve
