1. He he Paddy, you gonna make the dream come true?
2. And replied. Thanks guys, nice comments.
3. Price reduced to £1500 I have never been one for getting attached to instruments: they are tools to do a job. However, I did allow myself to get attached to this one, within reason of course, I never cuddled into it in bed... My custom made DUKE double bass, a.k.a the best roots music bass to roam the earth (IMHO)! I am at a time in my musical career where my needs have evolved and I really need a carved bass, which I need to purchase. I also need a touring bass, but my Chadwick folding bass is absolutely perfect for those purposes. My Duke bass is a true joy, but I need to free the space at home, and use the money of its sale, to go towards my carved purchase. There's nothing I can say about this bass that I haven't already boasted about in one of these forums: it is a fantastic plywood and you can use it to boom, swing and slap your way throughout the great American songbook, as well as every kind of rockabilly, bluegrass or folk you may ever be involved with. It is dark, bassy, very loud and especially a joy to play, thanks in part to the excellent set up I have had carried out. In the last couple of years I have been such an enthusiastic endorser of the Duke that I have probably convinced a few people to order one. I will indeed continue to promote Thomas's work, he makes a spot-on plywood bass. This Duke is a lovely matte chocolate colour, special laminating technique resembling the way carved basses are carved at the top, Rubner machine heads, ebony fingerboard, brand new maple bridge with very expensive adjusters you can operate without loosening the string tension, custom wooden walnut endpin done by Ben Bastin, all gut setup with Dluglolecki wound gut E (mega expensive!), Lenzner wound gut A, Lenzner raw gut D and G. Comes with soft carry case in excellent condition. The bass is in perfect nick. Every single professional player who has put their hands on it has been amazed by the sound of this bass. To call it a ply is to state the truth, but it is a disservice to how great it sounds. Given the work I carried out and the conditions of the bass, the price of £1500 is fair and trades are not accepted sorry. By all means if you are after a custom pay job, import a new one from Thomann, but here all the expensive luthier work has been done for you and it is ready to make an awesome sound.
4. somehow entered twice sorry
5. Bumping this up guys.
6. Sold.
7. After a bit of indecision I have decided to list this wonderful cab. The indecision was due to the mathematical certainty that I will never find another cab of similar quality for such a ridiculously low price. However, as a double bass player, I finally decided I didn't need this as an extension cab any longer, so there is no point in having it gathering dust. The cab is in great condition, having been used mainly for practice in the same rehearsal studio and being only 1 year old. A wonderful light weight 12 inch cab with adjustable tweeter as the spiel from Genz tells you: The FOCUS™ LT bass cabinets represent an evolution in cabinet design blending progressive, lightweight cabinet construction with ceramic drivers optimized for today's player.

200 Watt 12″ Loudspeaker and Compression Tweeter (200W @ 8 Ohms) - very conservatively rated, handles lots more according to all reviewers.
1/4″ and Speakon® Inputs
3 Position Tweeter Level Control
Reinforced Multi-layer Plywood Construction
Heavy-duty Metal Speaker Grille with Port Radius
Soft-grip Molded Strap Handle
Weight: 32 pounds
£210 included UK postage £240 for EU postage
8. Please note I added 3 photos of the flight case. Whilst the bass in in almost pristine condition, the flight case bears a couple of scrapes here and there as it has been well used, although it is still in good solid shape and full working order.
9. Thanks mate, yes I have seen Joe of Pokey LaFarge with it too, nice guy and bass player and indeed great live tone. May I say it is easy to get a good live tone. The internal modification to make the bass fold make it a little stiffer acoustically but totally focused and resistant to feedback on stage: I played big open air festivals with not even a hint of feedback and yet still sounding very much double bass.
10. Ian sold me the Schertler Dyn-B double bass mic/pickup and it was a great deal plus a very pleasant transaction. Great guy to deal with, thank you!
11. Lovely phrasing Jay, great job!
12. Forgot to mention: the bass comes with - Upton Revolution Solo Pickup installed - Feedback-killer tension screw from Blast Cult installed in the bridge, which you slightly tighten and the feedback goes away (works with any piezo in case you wanna change pickup) - and more importantly of course the original flight case is included with all the latches in good working order. Goodies.... And thank you for the offers so far.
13. Thanks Geoff, nice coming from an ace player like you. It's a great design. I'm happy to just sell it if no suitable trades offers come in of course, in fact it may be easier. If the buyer collects it I can show them how to fold and unfold. If shipped, I will enclose the original DVD from Charlie, very quick and idiot proof, trust me.
14. Classy laminate folks. Thanks Clarky it really is a pro instrument.
15. Hi guys, Thank you very much for the lovely trade offers, but may I please point you to the listing and the fact that I am ONLY open to trade with carved double basses. Electric basses and EUBs are of no use to me whatsoever I'm afraid, but thank you very much for offering anyway. All the best.
16. Close thread please I'm keeping it!
17. Price or Trade Value : £200 The more eagle eyed amongst you may notice that I had the exact same cab for sale a couple of weeks ago. That one was sold to SteveJ who is very happy with it. I originally wanted to keep my second Focus 112 as a spare extension cab, but after some soul searching I realised I would never need to be that loud on stage as I only ever play double bass. So here is my second Focus 112, which is identical to the first on and so much so I used the same photo for illustration purposes. I realise you may want new photos and if so please just PM me and I will take some tomorrow night. The only difference this time is that I do not have the original box, so I will have to use a packing and expedition company, but I will still pay for it, making the price a total bargain. And here is the spiel about the cab: A great extension cab with 12inch ceramic speaker, putting out 200w at 8ohms and of course very useful on its own or as an extension cab. This one is in great condition, 1 year old, not a mark on it, but it has been gigged, although very respectfully, only in arts centres with double bass. £200 posted to the UK is more than fair I'd say. [b][i]The FOCUS™ LT bass cabinets represent an evolution in cabinet design blending progressive, lightweight cabinet construction with ceramic drivers optimised for today's player. These compact, classic configurations are available in 4 models, each developed to deliver demanding performance, tight focused bass response along with design features you would only expect from GENZ BENZ. 18.
Out of interest Rabbie, how do you find the gut D? On my bass, the various gut Ds I have tried (Chorda, Lenzner, Goldentone) sound boxy/clunky when played pizz with lots of overtones so that they sound very indistinct ... especially if you move above the first few positions. There's a bunch of threads on TalkBass about people having problems with gut D's along similar lines.
Hi Clarky, I quite like the D gut. I don't find it boxy but yes if thumping along root - 5ths, it will sound thumpy, which is a good thing for that style. I find the limitation of their sound is what allows one to be expressive. Not indistinct really, I can always here my tuning and they have a distinct character. Having said that, it's been so long since I tried anything else that I'm not too sure I remember the character of the other strings I played before. Interesting point though, I'll think about it more.
19.
I'm tempted to try guts on at least the G and D. Which brand do you play?
Unless I find crazy offers on boutique gut (I.e. Dlugolecki) I just use Lenzner and they do the trick for me just fine.
20. The years go by and it's still guts for me. All gut sets for over a year now on both my basses. Depending on my fancy, A is either raw gut or wound. E is always wound, D am G raw gut. I'm also experimenting with a slightly lower action (but still comparatively high by today's standards). Sounds like heaven to me and the dynamics in the playing come out so well. You can hammer or slap guts and sound groovy and percussive; you can dig in and swing hard, or you can tickle them and they sing low... I'm in love with guts more every time I play. Sometimes I hear other people playing on steels or velvets and I dig their sound but guts just do it for me.
21. Sold pending usual
22. Bumpety for price drop £400
23. Simply put, Clarky is THE gentleman par excellence! Dealing with Clarky is a guarantee of a smooth and pleasant experience. His honesty, communication and the exemplary condition of the gear he sells are just perfect. I have been dealing with Clarky for a couple of years now and I have never thought of posting feedback, but every single deal has been the sweetest ever. This time, I bought Clarkys Acoustic Image Ten2. It arrived supremely well packaged and in immaculate conditions. A top product sold by a top fella. Top marks from me!
