Ah it looks fantastic...such great basses. As a Bass Centre lurker around 86/87 I would have picked one of these up over going anywhere near a Wal. So playable and punchy.

@Rib13Bass ha ha - very close timescale to me
1994 - first 3 band Ray
2012 - Classic 2 band Ray
2019 to present - late 80s 2 bands
And probably about 10 J-basses peppered around that lot...- 1

My second bass when touring was a 74 jazz bass. I only ever brought it out when the Stingray needed work and it had no thump in comparison. I love a jazz bass but have a hard time getting them to work....or, to be specific, get them to flap my trousers like a Stingray!

Each to their their own - I have both 2 and 3 bands - I generally follow the Levin approach with the 3 band - mid cut significantly and bass and treble boosted a bit. This gives a good approximation of a 2 band tone - the mid range can be increased if needed. The major difference between the 3 and 2 band is the high pass filter (which restricts the boomier frequencies - which the 2 band can produce on full bass), and the mid range control - the centre detent does not equal the 2 band mid range - needs cutting to do that - but having it available to boost can really help in some mixes and live rooms.
I love those two later 80s Stingrays. That 2 band fretless in trans red very likely has an alder body, and the black possibly a poplar body - both of which will probably contribute to quite warm sounds.
Yep, the trans is definitely alder. Very warm and punchy. It has a converted ebony board with lines which matches very well with the whole package.
Not sure about the black - could be poplar, could be ash. But yes, a full sounding 2 band with a great aggressive sound but not ear splitting highs (though that could be the 2 band).
I toured and recorded with a black/maple 1994 back in the day. That had a three band and was a clicky mess a lot of the time. I only ever fully embraced the Stingray again when I picked up a classic with a 2 band and found it much more of an appealing sound for what I like to do.
The necks on those two '89s are slimmer than the 1994; extremely playable, almost jazz like but with a tad more heft. Both pretty light too. I found the '94 neck a completely different ball game. Sharp edges and tubby...was not great! -
With a strict rule on 2-band EQs.

It's a peach and I would absolutely hold onto it but I have to be a two-bass-man for a while (fretted and fretless Stingrays of course!)

Up for sale is my as new/ shop fresh 2022 German-made Hofner Club.
The Club has the well known woody thump we all know and love all in a short scale package and a larger single cut body shape vs the more ubiquitous violin bass. Light as a feather and perfectly balanced. It's a beauty to play.
A reluctant sale but, as my gigging basses are Stingrays, I need funds for other things.
pickup/meet up preferred in the SE/M25 area.

If the ebony fretboard on this is even remotely close to the incredible job the gallery did on my fretless Stingray, this is an amazing deal!

Whoops I've just noticed the enormous 'recommended amp techs' list which I'll investigate. But if there's a Trace expert in Kent Sussex that springs to anyone's mind, do drop me a pm. Cheers! N

Anyone have a recommend for a good amp tech who is familiar with older (80s) Trace Elliot amps in Kent/Sussex?
I'm on the lookout for someone to give my old TE amp a once over and brush up.
Cheers! Nick -
Being six string-less for the first time in a while, the sight of a nice one like this puts the gas back on the hob.

AND SOLD
Up for sale is my minty clean, ungigged AG700. It's had little use at home and is pretty much as new. My playing nowadays is much more focussed on recording so I'm moving it on as it should be used!
600 firm and hand over only. Happy to drive a bit to meet up if necessary (I'm based in Kent nr Tunbridge Wells).
The only trades I would be interested in would be for a Roland JX8P synth.
This is fantastic, powerful amp that we all know and love; solid state 700 Watts at 4Ohms and a tad over 2kgs in weight. Beautiful sounding amp.
Here's the Aguilar link with specs etc

As the former owner, I can vouch for this bass being very, very good
I only sold it as I was boiling down to Stingrays as my main basses. It's fab! Very light and with a skinny/fast neck. In great condition too -
Up for sale is my Marshall Drivemaster. Obvs a classic 90s guitar pedal but sounds great on bass too.
Owned from new and never gigged. Some scratches from being in the pedal box for centuries but in pretty good shape. Slight scratching on the treble pot but some soaking in WD40 should deal with that. Quiet in operation.
Very little between this and the Guvnor or Shredmaster (both commanding silly prices because of celeb users e.g. Jonny Greenwood etc)

And the AB1 is back up. Didn't want to sell it as it's fantastic - but my recording duties are focussed around my Stingrays right now...
