1. EDIT: very probably sold my TRB 5-II, so this one gets to stay, hurray! I ordered this a few years ago and it's in mint condition. Sasha builds instruments for some of Finland's best players, and our starting point with this bass was 'Fodera AJ 6 contrabass guitar meets 60's jazz bass.' So he looked very carefully at the AJ6 I had, and the neck is a fairly direct copy. The body is thin and comfortable. Specs: 36" scale, 21 frets 20 mm spacing at the bridge Bolt-on maple neck, AJ profile. Slim C that is fast but not flat or uncomfortable at all. Great for long sessions. Brazilian rosewood fretboard (which you can't get any more due to CITES) Flame alder body, dried 30 years Flame maple top Hipshot ultralite tuners (I hatehatehate neck dive, there is none) Electronics: Aero one-off custom pickups. Coil splittable so that you have coils in the same proportional positions as a 60s jazz bass. We asked the Aero guy to make the pickups imitate AJ tone in humbucking mode and 60 JB in single coil mode and he asked for every spec on the bass and wound the pair for this bass. Used a single pole piece for c string for evenness of tone. He is the sh*t. Pope flexcore pre-amp. Really clear. I like this the best of all pre-amps I've had. Why am I taking a bath and moving this on? Life changes. I'm now living in a different country and play no music. I have no living space. I don't expect to join a band or take on gigs, as I have no free time for the next few years, and will be busy learning a new profession where I'll be playing catch up to my younger colleagues the rest of my life. Who is this bass for? Someone who likes jazz basses, AJ ergonomics and tone or just wide spacing and even response from string to string in a six. Really easy to play. Trades? Not really souped up about those, but market realities yadda yadda. I'm not looking for an instrument for my own use, so pretty much anything goes. Photos: https://www.dropbox....P6TodDGxsa?dl=0
2. I'm selling 2 out of my 3 fretted electrics due to not having time to play and living in someone's cupboard for the foreseeable future. Trade-wise I'm, as usual, open for anything but not too excited about trading up. Cash is king, as they say around here. Rainer's Celinder Custom 6 was prettier, but this one has the Green Grove preamp. Mikkel listed the specs as follows: '36" scale and 24 frets. Adjustable stringspacing 20-18mm. Mahogany body in a flamed maple sandwich. 5pc maple neck with wenge (i think!) stripes. Nice fat ebony fingerboard. Celinders famous humbuckers. Splittable hum/singlecoil. Active greengrove preamp. Master vol with push/pull active/passive, 2x Vol with push/pull coil tap (one for each PU), bass boost/cut, treble boost/cut. Gotoh hardware. This bass has been played. And the finish reflects that. Frets are in great condition.' This bass is buzzfree for me at about 2,5 mm under E string at 12th fret, the rest of the strings set accordingly for even feel. So I don't know if that is ultra low action or not. This bass is tied with my custom built 6 and the Fodera AJ 6 contrabass guitar I had for the most even feel and volume from B to C I've ever had. Even the C string has real authority to push through a 20-piece horn band. Mikkel's opinion on the tone: 'The sound is MASSIVE. Must be heard to be believed. First time I heard this bass was in a big live concert where the guy playing it was playing through a simple DI and straight in the board. The bass sounded like it has been recorded and mastered by one of the worlds best sound engineers. Focused, punchy and warm lows and a crystal clean treble without being harsh.' I would add that the B string works great for slap, tonally and with regard to feel. And there's a real clarity to the B string that I've had from nothing else except the AJ contrabass guitar. Lots of basses have B's with authority, but not clarity, here you get both. Photos: https://www.dropbox....ridk5YHANa?dl=0
3. The luminlays and splittable pickups might not sound like be-all, end-all, but in real life they are actually quite nice. Seeing your side dots in pitch black and having single coil tones at the flick of a switch are stuff I used to get benefit from regularly. And the original Bartolini pickups are included. The tone is the classic MTD tone, with very much a lack of harshness in the top end. It's not AS glassy as ebony board MTDs have, but it's, to me, much clearer than rosewood board MTDs I've owned had. Very controllable, big, lows. I think it's the extremely rigid neck. Which also makes this the best out of all MTDs I owned for A tuning. I'm selling because I got back into student life and am now living in Stockholm in someone's cupboard. The housing market here is terrible. No bands and no living space mean I don't need to own 3 fretted electric basses. As for trades, I'm not looking for anything in particular, but I can say that adding cash on top of this is not likely. Trade value would be somewhat higher than the cash price, 2900 quid shipped to most European locations. Here's how Antoine listed the specs: ' Built in 2010 Body: Tulipwood Top: Flamed myrtle Neck: Wenge onepiece Fretboard: Wenge Finish: trans black sweet gloss Neck profile: asymetric Dots on the side: luminlay green Case: original MTD Deluxe with hygrometric device enclosed. Pickups: Nordstrand Dual blade (vol, single/dual, blend, bass, treble, mid 3 freq. 4. I still prefer her to just shut up and play. But then jazz vocals are a non-starter for me.
5. Finland, unfortunately. The entire country is North of every bit of Scotland...
6. Right, more gear to liquidate. These are ACME cabs but more efficient than the Low B-2 and B-1 models. Rare earth magnets something something. Works really well for electric bass, I prefer the more hi-fi B-1 for upright work. Here's some specs copied from ACME site: Model: Acme Low B-112 Series III Frequency response: 41Hz to 22 kHz +/-3 dB. -6 dB at 31 Hz Power Handling: 350 Watts RMS continuous Recommended Power: 300-400 watts Sensitivity: 91.1 dB 1 watt/1 meter Impedance: Available in 4 or 8 ohms Dimensions: 23"H x 15.75"W x 16.5"D Weight: 37.5 lbs In practice, this is a great compromise between hi-fi and portability and efficiency. More "bass speaker cab" voiced than the Low B-2s. Edit: it had more bumps on it than I remembered! However, the cab works perfectly. Costs USD 725 from Acme and they are only available direct. Shipping, customs and VAT on top and I think what I'm asking is a fair price.
7. The best Skjold I've played or heard (yes, I've listened to Erskine, and I think he would sound even better on this one, but tone is of course a matter of taste. One man's treat is another garbage and so on), this bass more or less does it all: slap, rnb, burpy fingerstyle, rock tones... Great for chording, too! Has an even, full tone that goes many places with little tweaks from the pre-amp. String spacing at bridge: 18,3 mm, adjustable about +-.5 mm. Zero fret. Spanish Cedar body, with BEM top Maple/purpleheart neck with pau ferro fretboard. 35" scale. The wonderful full spectrum Skjold pickups and the very powerful and clear East/Skjold pre-amp. Hipshot hardware, quite light and the bass is exemplarily well-balanced. Comes with a light hard case or a thomann el cheapo hard case. https://www.dropbox....65Eq3VIK9a?dl=0Photos in dropbox Why am I selling it? This is the bass that started my frantic forum trading phase a decade ago. I sold it on to try something new. I recently reacquired this bass in trade... And it's the best bass I've ever played. I suppose I should treasure the knowledge I've gained, but in the end it was not worth it. I've decided to quit playing. I thought I would maybe hold on to this bass for sentimental reasons -- you know, a reminder of what a folly it is to pursue something new just because it's new. But really, that's a vanity and I'm no longer a guy who wants vanity stuff. So I guess that's something gained in owning well over 60 boutique basses...
8. No DB, no bow. Never dropped or otherwise mistreated, never left under tension. Doesn't need new hair for a good long time. nb: it's got the French grip!
9. No DB, no need for DB gear. This was my secret weapon for suboptimal rooms. The EQ and phase are excellent for compensating so you don't have to fight the dynamics and standing waves all night. Asking 80 quid shipped
10. Sold my DB, no need for a mic either. I chose the Ehrlund because after lots of listening to samples at TalkBass, I concluded this was the most neutral of the contact pickups. And it's just brilliant. The preamp is specifically tailored to the pickup. Very clear and clean, with lots of dynamics. One caveat is that it's also quite sensitive. Unlike my now-defunct Barcus Berry, this will pick up bad technique. I had the lead professionally modded with a female jack and cut to 10" so it's more useful for gigging. Price includes postage to European destinations.
11. I'll try to get some audio and photos up tomorrow. But we'll see how it goes. It's really is a nice bass... There's a reason the MTDs went and this stayed.
12. I got this one in trade, but I'm quitting. Poplar body, flamed maple 4 A top. Neck is bolt-on maple and wenge with an ebony fingerboard. Hardware is all hipshot. Reed James pickups and 3-band pre bartolini. Weighs 4.3 kilos. Manufactured in January 2013. This bass has attack and mid presence similar to a Roscoe, but more low end, more like an MTD. So, tonally it's a cross between MTD and Roscoe, I suppose. String spacing 19mm, nut width 51 mm. Not too wide, not too tight. Just right. Comes with a new generic Thomann case. Photos here: https://www.dropbox....V4R9GWFVLa?dl=0 Here's Oscar's thread: http://basschat.co.u...-price-reduced/
13. Edit; currency exchange rates have changed, price is no longer current. Please inquire for details. This 1U power amp weighs 8 kg and puts out 2 x 1950 @ 4 ohms. It's overkill. It's frankly totally brilliant. Has lots of features in the menu like expected gain levels etc that you can adjust per channel is you wish. Manufacturer's product page: http://www.powersoft...ing/k-series#K2 Here's a link to a US retailer page: https://proaudio.com...2-at-4-ohms.asp I'm taking a beating on this because I'm done with playing. This amp has been in a brilliant rack all it's life and is in mint condition.
14. Edit: currency exchange rate update: price is no longer current, please inquire for details. This is the finest preamp for bass I've heard. Lots of features that are brill for studio and live work -- like, e.g. the DI of both channels can be either discrete or summed, as you prefer. This preamp is about as clean as it gets. It has very powerful tone shaping, if you like that sort of thing. Or you can tweak. It even works great with a double bass. Here's a link to mr. Pope's product page. http://michaelpopede..._mpp2intro.html In mint condition, it's been in a great rack all it's life. I'm only selling because I realised I no longer wish to play neither at home nor especially away from home. Price includes shipping. If you'd like the very good power amp and the frankly brilliant composite rack I have for this, I'm more than happy to compromise on the price.
15. Traded basses with Hellzero. Everything went really well. I'd recommend him anytime.
16. Frank bought my Bareface Midget and you couldn't ask for a nicer bloke to deal with!
17. Yeah, he seems to be a really good builder. I don't say this often, but this is a bass that is up to the standards of Ken Lawrence or Fodera in craftsmanship and execution. The video demo sounds like there's a low end CUT going on. Gonna need to record a short clip of my own.
18. Mint condition, original packing materials even! I got this in trade and it's much more efficient than my Acme cabs, but my power amps are 2 x 800 and 2 x 1400 watts so efficiency isn't really that important for me. Also, the tone is more traditional. Certainly these are very accurate bass cabs, but there's a decided "electric bass" tone character to these cabs. Should work well if you like playing in a band or at gigs or something like that. All in all it's a brilliant piece of kit but I'm gonna sell it because I've got my beat Acmes that will last me my lifetime at this rate of giging. It's less than a year old, played for two dozen hours I think and it's really light, too! Price includes shipping to most European destinations.
19. Had a fair few high quality basses in my time. Filter preamps have their own thing going. I think you could get a reasonable facsimile of Wal pickups from, say, Armstrong? And afaik some people on this very forum have gone for wal-like ACGs? But no, nothing I've had or played has totally nailed the Wal tone. You want that tone, you need a Wal? Altho lots of Flea stuff was recorded on his Alembic Epic and Spector NS2. But what I want is Geddy's tone on Show of Hands anyways. And the ergonomics or intonation -- of the Wals I used to own -- aren't really comparable to MTD or Skjold and such.
