Learning enough to solder a few wires is a thousand times easier than welding galvanised pipe with stick electrodes.

Nailing jelly to the ceiling is easier than welding galvanised pipe.  My hat's off to you if you're any good at it!

    Wow! They are women!

They are in a band but they are women!

They are playing their own instruments but they are women!

They are playing metal but they are women!

They are doing what men do but they are women!

Whatever next? Maybe we'll have women driving buses, and possibly even women being politicians!

What?  Are you quite mad sir?  If we start down this path they'll be out of the kitchen and wearing shoes and trousers and things!  It's a short hop from there to letting them in pubs and giving 'em the vote.  ;)

A schoolmate of mine was an obsessed metalhead, always on the lookout for something new as long as it was heavier than lead. He bought this Molly Hatchet album unheard, based entirely on the look of the sleeve, somehow convinced it was going to make Motorhead sound like Peters & Lee. Imagine his disappointment when it turned out to be Southern not-remotely-metal boogie rock. Oh, how the rest of us laughed. A lot.

Indeed.  Still, he got a good 'un with FwD at least.

The younger sis was Julie. Tracey was the bassist.

I remember them keeping a very strict eye on Julie at the JR’s gig in case someone tried to chat her up (IIRC they said she was 14 at the time, but you wouldn’t have known).

I stand corrected sir.  Yes, Jody & Julie Turner, Tracey Lamb on bass, later replaced by Dee O'Malley (just been pulling vinyl out of my sideboard)

Was a big fan of RG, back in the day. Remember first seeing them at JRs in Blackpool. They blew me away. Tracey Lamb even took a swig of my lager! Chatted to them after the gig; great girls. My mate (see previous posts) corresponded with Jody T for a bit after that.

I always had a bit of  a thing for her baby sis Tracey (drummer).  She was proper jailbait in the early days (13 when the band started, if you can believe it), but still a couple of years older than me.

Any idea what they're doing now?

  6. Yeah, I hit 50 a couple of months back and it's bothered me a lot less than I thought it would TBH.

As you say bud, it's just another number.  That said though, it's the biggest one so far ;)   (But also the smallest it's going to be from here on, too)

The door did not close and my derrière cheeks were perched atop the bucket seat rather than in it, but I class that as 'in'!

In the same way as getting a couple of toes into a pair of kiddies size 7 shoes can be classed as 'wearing' them, I guess you're not wrong ;)

I've owned many high end basses but was always too precious with them.

Inexpensive basses mean that you don't have to worry about losing £200 off the price when it inevitably gets a knock.

Most of mine could have been chopped up, shredded and burned and still left me with change from £200 :)

One of the original Le Mans cars is in the museum at the Nurburgring......it's very very very low!

That's why it was called the GT40 - it was 40 inches high.  [Caine] Not a lotta people know that [/Caine/]

Pretty much every band I've felt strongly enough about to hate I've come around to liking, or at least apreciating, in the end.

On the other hand, indifference lasts for ever.

This may be the most profound thing I've ever read on here! My hat is off to you sir!

Re amps, if she's like my daughter she'll prefer a beaten up second hand 80s trace elliot combo rather than something new.
    [/quote]

An old Trace has a certain 'cool' factor that very few modern amps can get near to. Unfortunately for your daughter, they also have a certain 'heavier than the factory they were built in' factor too, so unless she's either a weightlifter or dating one they may be impractical, especially with the newer breed of superlight amps now on the market.

Brilliant! Just what I needed, thanks!

That would appear to be short-circuiting the DC input to itself via the top strip of the Veroboard guys - careful how you approach this one.
