FJ1200
Be there lunchtime-ish. Fiesta full of kit and Bass POD for people to play with if you want to.
2. Had an awful Encore Coaster P-bass in black when I was 19 or 20 I think. Cost me £79 and got hacked to pieces and re-wired dunno how many times! I even added a Double Eagle humbucker to it - just cos I could. It sat in the loft for years and I gave it away to a friend's son about 5 years ago.

BASS BASH MARCH 2008

Been told I can come out and play. Is anyone bringing a Bass POD XT Live? If not I'll bring mine for people to play with - seems to be a fair amount of interest in them. Also will have my Ohm GA140 1 x 15" combo and Aria IGB40. Won't get there till 1:30ish as I'm playing Sunday morning.
4.
Any more video's coming?
Thanks for the responses. Not sure about more videos - I'm not that good a player, but I could be persuaded to bring it to the bass bash next week if nobody else is bringing one for people to play with. Won't get there till around 1:30pm though as I'm playing Sunday morning. Will enquire...
5. I think it's swings and roundabouts really - I have no problems going across the road to the local retail park to look at freezers, washing machines - white goods at certain well-known hight street retailers and then buying online, but smaller specialist shops I'll help to keep open, so out little music shop in town or the one down the road from me, where you can see and test what you're buying and get some proper old-fashioned service. We make our own beer and wine and started using kits for the first time last year. We have a small specialist shop in town we use cos he's been doing it years and knows what he's talking about. Not a box-shifter, a nice guy and a walking encyclopedia as well!
6. Ta. thought it had to be summat like that but ya never know... (old amp, no manual)
7. 2 Korg vids online at last! See post #5 above.
8. OK - probably an obvious one here. Amp send/return. Never really used it but my GA140 has a single send/return jack whick I presume needs a stereo jack input but what goes on t'other end? I've always used inline effects until I got the POD XT, and I now use that in the send/return to bypass the amp, but need to have it only part-way in to make the proper contact. How is one supposed to use a single Send/Return socket?
9.
Are you going to post some Korg sounds as a direct comparison?
Yeah - I did but the vid was too long and got rejected so having to re-do it but I kept getting interupted! I prefer some of the Korg synth sounds - more usable and in IMHO more fun! EDIT> AAARRRGGGHHH - HOW difficult can it be to upload a video? 3rd attempt last night - got cut off near the end cos they're doing site maintenence.
10. I have a similar plastic box but split the lid on Sunday (raining too!) so going to build myself a strong one that will sit on top of the amp for wheeling around, but be strong enough to act as a stand as well. That way I can have proper compartments and maybe if I'm clever get my POD XT Live in it as well in a properly protected foam-lined compartment. I can then also have it properly lockable. Then maybe if I add gps to it and Sky-plus, maybe a microwave, fridge for summer beers............... (Mmmm - like the wheeled box OldGit has just posted.)
11.
you really don't like the line 6 synths do you ? and i agree...they're terrible...if only magazine review were as straight talking !!! "i mean...what could you do with that ?" great stuff !
I always read users reviews before buying these sort of things, as manufacturers website reviews are a bit of a waste of time and mag reviewers often don't have to live with them day in, day out and live with the little 'features' you so often find, and I don't see the point in not being honest about what I think. Other opinions will undoubtedly differ, and I hope they do. I worked with some of them a little last night and maybe got somewhere - not sure where exactly, but an option to change or upload new effects from L6 would be nice or a add-on pack like the guitarists can get for their POD with additional effects? P'raps I'm just a boring old fart in a mid-life crisis? Some of the younger, experimental or pro element here may be able to shed some light on getting the best from these fx? Please, guys? Huh? I really WANT to like them, I just don't much. Still love me POD though, and I think for me and for what I wanted it for it does have a slight edge over the Korg.
12. Next one uploaded last night - see the post #5 up top. Going to put them all up there to keep them together.
13. Used to play Cornet and violin as a kid (still got it at home!). Was forced into classical music and had to be in the orchestra which I detested! If they'd taught me folk or something with a bit of life I'd still be playing but how many teenagers into Motorhead, Van Halen, Led Zep and Deep Purple wanted to learn Beethoven in the 70s? Seriously NOT cool! My eldest daughter (now 14) and I bought a blue Yamaha Pacifica between us a couple of years ago - partly to encourage her to continue learning the guitar and partly cos I wanted an electric and wanted to learn to play but never got round to it so it's hung forlornly on the wall for much of that time. I pick it up and fiddle with it every now and then but always come back to my bass. Would love to be able to play harmonica well, and would love to learn to play double bass.
14.
Being a new Pod user myself, I'll would like to see some vids from the guys who know what they are doing with it.
What are you watching my vids for then? No - seriously, thanks for all the comments. I have 5 more to upload, will get them on this evening. Bit more to them, but I'm only using the standard presets. Perhaps we should have a pinned thread on these as so many people seem to have them? Then we'll have an area where where we can swap tips and so on without annoying everyone else. Will anyone with a good amount of experience be demoing a POD XT Live at the Bass bash? Hoping to get along but not sure whet I'm doing yet. I'm in Northampton fairly often with work and it's only 40 mins from Peterborough.

Bass Floor Pod

Loads of people here have one. I'm doing what I hope is an objective comparrison of mine with the Korg AX3000B including some vids - see http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=15379 Includes my personal likes & dislikes. Others will have differing opinions but then I've only had mine 3 weeks. Loads of threads on here about them too.
17.
Wouldn't judge it till you've heard it! Cannon A620 Powershot - mic picked up the lower tones fine! Just my comentary and playing that's a bit suspect. Working on them now.
EDIT: OK - first vid uploaded to YouTube - 1st one I did - POD XT Overview. I KNOW it's not very good, and I KNOW the comentary is naff, it's just to give an idea. Had to fend off the kids coming in while I was doing it too! My firstest ever upload to youtube! 5 more to upload but going to bed now, been a long day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3iHFUQwE00 What woud be good is those of you who have had a POD for ages and know how to use them proper like could do some instructional vids for those lesser mortals like meself who have just bought one. EDIT: 18/03/2007 > Uploaded two last night, one took ages only to have it rejected for being too long. Oh well - have to re-do it. This got uploaded though... This is the synth stuff. Spent a lot of time last night playing with the synth effects trying hard to understand them. Starting to get a grip on some, but still prefer the Korg's offerings. The POD has an issue (well it is to me) where as the signal decays on the Korg it tracks perfectly, whereas on the POD as a sustained note decays it reaches a threshold and drops so there's a sudden step down. Can anyone tell me if this is by design or just how it is? I doubt I'd use these in reality anyway but if they are there I want to know about them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7FWpldetl4 Okey Dokey boys and girls - finally got the 2 Korg vids uploaded!! Had to split the original one in 2: Part 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M0I14RmhWE Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxqDxuMXCzs Be nice with the feedback. Don't mind if you say it's crap (I beat you to it anyway!) but it's my personal opinion. And it seems a lot of people agree with me. Line 6 seem to have no interest what so ever in developing the Bass POD XT Live (or any bass kit), the more people that get on their site and hassle them with feature requests the better. Also - wot about you lot who've had one for ages? How 'bout a tutorial or 3? :0) If ya don't like the videos, do one that's better!
18.
Sounds interesting!
Wouldn't judge it till you've heard it! Cannon A620 Powershot - mic picked up the lower tones fine! Just my comentary and playing that's a bit suspect. Working on them now.
19. What's in the box? This is my POD XT Live as is arrived on my desk at work on the Friday afternoon. I spent ages before I ordered it trying to find what came in the box and couldn't find any info anywhere. In the box you get - Bass POD XT Live, Owner's Manual, Power Supply and a USB lead. You have to download the software seperately but be warned you need an early version of Java to run it. I run Windows 2000 Pro at home and had no problems but my XP laptop doesn't like it. Going to try it on Linux when I get some more time and get the software and drivers downloaded.
20. Started the review - see the Reviews section or follow the link below. Due to the size of the avi videos I need to resample them - 600MB is a bit big I think! Put some photos on though. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...t=0#entry158098
21. Okey-dokey. Managed to get a video review done of these 2 together, but since some of the vids are around 650MB for a 5-minute avi I think I need to re-sample them! But I've put some photos below to help. They show the side view with the pedals at max. height, the 2 together from above and the rear panels of both together. I'll try to get the videos re-sampled and posted tomorrow or later this week. The views expressed are purely personal, and in some clips I have asked that if anyone who has more experience with the POD can do anything - anything at all - with the synth sounds (which are a total waste of space IMHO) please can you advise me? (Disclaimer: No animals, children, basses or electronics were harmed during the production of this review.)
22.
What's the octaving like on the AX3000B? I've been exploring the octaving on various bits of kit I've got knocking about and the best so far by a long way is an el cheapo Zoom RFX-1000, beating the laggy Lexicon MPX-100 and the ghastly sounding and poorly tracking Digitech BP-200 into respective cocked hats.
I find sometimes on the POD it can drop out a bit on the lower registers but also has the Boss OC-2 modelled - 1 and 2 octaves down. The AX has a pitch shifter too though and can do 1 or 2 up as well which would be nice on the POD. I'll get the AX out of the box over the wekend if it hasn't been collected and do a side-by-side comparrison, maybe some short vids/audio as well. I like the octaver though. Always wanted one. The auto-wah is a bit stronger on the Korg too I think. de-fret is a bit naff though - I was disapointed anyway. The Zoom one is supposedly better. I'm starting to think maybe I need an AX3000B or the B2.1u as well as a POD - GAS attack comming on I think!!
23.
No sh*t. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=14798&hl=janek
Based on that it would be argumentative, contradictory, often off topic - but very entertaining!
24.
ahem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/bass-balalaika-folk-...emZ270218307796
Ooooooohh - I'm sooo tempted to bid - but would be in sooooo much trouble!!!
25. I'd tend to agree - the effects on the AX3000B are better, and easier to selct but I bought the POD to avoid having to lug the amp to church and to be able to plug directly into the PA and then model any amp/cab I want and rely on the foldback - although I did miss having the 15" speaker next to me! I tend to be fairly subtle when it comes to effects, and I also have a CS-2 that I use - had it since the 80's. The synth stuff is certainly more usable on the Korg - the POD stuff is - IMHO - plain rubbish and unusable, and I'd rather have a decent slow attack and a de-fret. Also never did understand why you need 5 distortions, 3 compressors, 4 choruses, etc. 2 of each max would be good enough, surely! But you'll never get the perfect balance of seperate fx in a multi anyway - it's a personal thing. I like my POD, but if I was offered a Korg cheap I'd jump at it.
