Why is the reinforcement zig zag on one end and straight at the other?

The hole is to hang it on the wall no?

May mute the sustain a smidge though. 

Our heating is due to be replaced urgently, so hopefully the big oil tank will go and my available space for "workshop" will double and a bit.  It'll still be in the cellar though.

Stunning bit of wood there, could you use something like chopping board oil?

Sorry, just remembered you wanted to lacquer it afterwards.  Or not lacquer just oil it occasionally?

Sort of a traditional/common thing here. Quite a lot of people have them outside their doors. Either Moin or the family name.

I understand that the manufacturers deliberately don't have it run on truly random as it can play a bunch of songs by the same artist in sequence, which the consumer then perceives as not being random.

The main reason given for not going too deep is that you can put things at the back without leaning over much. 

Of course, if you have the physique of an Orangutan that may not be much of a consideration. 

Thinking further, I'd go the length of an average bass, P seems about as average as you can get, add 500mm to it and use that. Width, 600 seems still reasonable.

Actually, you can't really make a bench too long, but you can make it too wide. Check out Rex Kruger on YT, one video about four common mistakes made when building your first bench and one about building an English Joiners bench.

I'm going to build one of his in the new year,  it's going to be 1500mm long, 600 deep and about 850 tall. For context my current bench is 2m x 1m and I'm only using a square about 600 x 700 to work on. The rest has become stuff storage.

So do I. I wanted it to be as invisible as possible. Looks great shut, needs a bit of thinking for the look once the lid is off.

Box no.2, mahogany and oak, BLO with wax. I'm not convinced with how I left the end where the lid fits in, I should have cut the top frame rail in half so the end panel is finished rather than flapping in the breeze, but that would have bu$$ered up the proportions. Yes it looks like another table tomb.

I wouldn't trust Ricky's opinion, the colour blind fukkwit.

It's 100 x 200. The lid thickness makes it about 110 mm tall.

Little wooden box, mahogany and ash.  Yes, it does look like a table tomb, but that really is a coincidence.
