1. Welcome to BC, the people here are really great. So cool you're a pilot! I love flying and wish I had become one. There's nothing quite like that first "lift" up into the air What a rush. I also like the turbulence
 2. Welcome to BC, you'll learn a lot here
 3.
To be fair, I've listened to a fair bit of Harrison and the odd 'the wings but as a whole, the Beatles are just something I'll never come to appreciate as much as others as you'll understand with the stones. I think it's a generation thing, as much as I wa raised on Pink Floyd, Mike and the mechanics, E.L.O, the police/sting and a few other 'Classic Rock' bands my parents where into, I do enjoy my fair bit of metal and alt rock of my day. It all comes down to what mood I'm in but my parents wouldn't dare dream of listening to what I do haha. LOL she does help me pick a guitar occasionally but it's more so on what colour it is. She's a good girl and we celebrate our differences too, too many things in common would only cause conflict haha. How are you and your fella? Where are you origionally from too? BSB
I know what you mean about the music. I like a bit of heavy metal, must be because my neighbor always blasted Black Sabbath music from his house as a teenager. Not really into a lot of it, though, I still enjoy the old classic groups like your parents do. We did have a great Alternative Rock radio station back home, which I thoroughly enjoyed, otherwise I wouldn't have heard The Cure or Squeeze. I like how you said that you and your girl celebrate your differences, too. That is so important, and people often forget it. My Tom and I are very opposite on many things, yet it keeps the relationship interesting. I think as long as you have respect for each other (and that includes your mate's opinions), it's really not that difficult to get along while having differences. When the EX divorced me because I was sick, the first quality I looked for in another partner was how they handled conflict. Because, invariably, there will be conflict at some point in a relationship. I don't hold grudges and I don't go to bed angry, never have used the "silent" treatment.... so I wanted a guy who also got over disputes quickly. Btw, thanks for asking about us, that was really thoughtful. We're okay, still making each other laugh Gotta love a good sense of humour! I'm originally from Baltimore, Maryland, which is a big seafood town. People fly in from different parts of the USA just to sample our hard steamed crabs because we season them differently (same with the shrimp). Luckily, I can get a can of Old Bay seasoning over here (which is what's used back in Baltimore). I love that stuff! I even put it on scrambled eggs. haha I really miss all the good seafood from back home. In October, oyster stew would be sold at the seafood places. Steamed shrimp was sold in the regular food stores along with soft shell crabs so you could make fried soft shell crab sandwiches. Crab soup was common, too. I used to make it. The seafood over here isn't seasoned like ours, of course, and seems like it's mostly sold near the coastlines, but I'm not on a coastline (we're between Ascot and Wokingham). Sorry for the ramble. lol
 4.
I find cheap guitars more enjoyable to play, 1 because your not constantly worrying about bashing it or even scratching it if you use plecs. 2 the tone is pretty versatile as to "classic"/"modern" tones from the upper price region instruments, making them good for beginners too. Never really had much interest in Hofners, mainly with being brought up in Liverpool all i ever heard about was The Beatles this, The Beatles that i just grew to hate everything associated with them haha, but after seeing some of the Hofner CT series they have. . . I'm tempted JEEZ! i bet he was over the moon when he got that lol she's a joy really, when she was driving she did take me on a 120mile trip to collect my marshall and numerous times to guitar shops. i just always cringe when she picks one of my guitars up XD BSB
I hear ya about cheap guitars. I have also heard many UKers say they are sick of the Beatles. But, for an American, they were fantastic since their music appealed to all categories of people, not just youngsters. Not many bands can say that. Good melody writers, no matter how simplistic. Now, as you were "Beatled" to death... ... I was bombarded with the Rolling Stones' music over and over and over.... so I can't stand them now, except for a few songs. If only radio broadcasters realized how they turned off people by overplaying certain bands. I came from a very Rock 'n Roll town, which hated Rap (or as we called it, C*ap) and hip hop (what we called Bubblegum music). Luckily, my brothers had great albums for me to hear, like The Who, T.Rex, etc... Your girl sounds like a keeper; at least she drives you where you need to go
 5.
+1, it's ace!
Yea, when I first heard Les play Tommy the Cat, I was hooked. I could listen to his bass playing all day.
 6. Primus' recent Green Naugahyde CD. Love the crazy songs on it!
 7.
ok. . . . i take that back! wish my girl was more like you, she only complains my guitars are all over the place ^_^ so what guitars do you have yourself or "claimed" from your fella?
We have guitars all over the place, too, but I don't mind. The only guitars I own are the Fender Squire Strat (cheapo) and an acoustic/electric Takamine, as both were given as presents to me by my EX. I can't really afford to buy guitars. They wouldn't sell for much money, but the Takamine is quite popular and used by musicians like Mark Knopfler, The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, etc... I've just recently asked to play my husband's Hofner (did I say play? I meant learn), since he isn't showing interest in playing bass on any of my songs. I'm disabled, so I can't really lift his other bass guitars to try and play them. The Hofner is perfect for me, though; it's actually lighter than my Takamine. Maybe your girl will get used to the guitars being all around the house? My first Christmas present to my current husband when we were just dating was a nice Bass POD he could use in his band. I think he was surprised
 8.
Like a printer?
9.
Thanks for taking my post in the way it was intended! Thought my next message may be from a mod!
Takes a lot to offend me; you forget I was raised with all brothers, so my brain tends to think that way. lol
 10.
Which reminds me of this sexist joke: Q: Why do women wear make-up and perfume? A: Because they're ugly and they smell. Ha, ha! Not a joke I'd post on a public forum with women present obviously, I... D'OH!!
So you think I'm a man? Oh, we have our "man" jokes, too.... Funny, aren't they? I must admit I hadn't heard your joke before. LOL Thanks for reminding me how much I hate heavy perfume.
 11.
Exactly! Well the guitarist pisses me off as well because he's constantly dissing my stuff and my recordings. This is despite the fact he didn't even know the basics like the fact you're supposed to double-track guitars for stereo even though he has been at uni doing music tech for 2 years. I don't know.
That guitarist would piss me off, too. Besides, there's a nice way of making suggestions to someone instead of sounding critical. What's even better is to ask, "Can I make a suggestion?" before someone starts giving advice. At least that gives you an option of saying No.
 12.
I do!
and I'm sure you're not alone in that! Nothing wrong with it. Most women I know do paint themselves up.
 13.
Honestly, laid back and easygoing people are the type that get on my nerves the most! My mum is like that (well apart from if you spill the wine, then she totally flips out) and the guitarist in my band as well. Just irritates the hell out of me.
Btw, EdwardHimself, "laid back and easygoing" does not mean there's no intensity/passion under the surface. I'm passionate about lots of things and will eagerly enter into debates about them (I do enjoy a good debate); however, I'm a peaceful person who doesn't let every small thing get to me. That's what I meant.
 14.
Yes, we can all celebrate our femininity in different ways. The thing is to be confident ourselves and our own 'look'.
Yes, indeedy! I'm still laughing at "naked toe nails" ! LOLOL I used to own an Arabian horse, so long fingernails were a big no-no (they'd break off anyway), but I still can't get my head around people not liking normal toenails. I was quite amused when I first saw a friend with painted toenails as a child. Nothing wrong with it, it's like any fashion statement I guess. I just think it's funny, for some strange reason. Just like those long, fake tarantula looking eyelashes the females over here like to wear. I have to keep from laughing sometimes. I've never heard a man say, "I love your painted toenails" or "I love those fake spider eyelashes". But I know there are men out there who probably do. Yea, I know I'm weird.
 15.
Honestly, laid back and easygoing people are the type that get on my nerves the most! My mum is like that (well apart from if you spill the wine, then she totally flips out) and the guitarist in my band as well. Just irritates the hell out of me. Well the neighbour has the most irritating dog who she seems to see fit to let out into the garden every 15 minutes between 10 and 11 at night and 7 and 8 in the morning. Also she sold her house in May and she still hasn't moved out! Well if they let me smoke weed I would do that instead. But for now, it's the old pipe, right beside my slippers on the mantelpiece
So this much we now know.... it bothers you when someone else is not bothered.... lol You need a better neighbor, or a neighbor with a well behaved dog (we've got one of those yappy barking dogs who the owner just screams at) And you have an old pipe, slippers, and a mantelpiece. Now people know what to buy you for Christmas.
 16.
I play guitar, bass AND drums, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it!
Yes, I've heard your neighbors complain
 17.
Well let's face it, everyone is irritating after you get to know them, in some ways. It's just about finding the person who irritates you the least
Speak for yourself LOLOL Actually, I don't find him irritating; I've lived with much worse! We're both pretty laid back and easygoing
 18.
You're holding a guitar, for a start.
funny man. I can love both
 19.
Lucky man!
That's very sweet of you to say, but somehow I don't think he considers himself lucky. LOL! I do have my faults! I'm sure he could make a long list.
 20. Welcome to BC, nice to meet you
 21. Oh, and thank you for visitng my website! I just realized I had the photos on Page 3 password protected, lol, sorry about that, I have now fixed that problem. That's what I get for not knowing what I'm doing.
 22.
Hi Mystic and welcome to England and Bass Chat. You'll have to get you other half back into playing music again, it can be very therapeutic. My 9 year old son started to learn guitar at school and it's re-kindled my need play again (after not touching a bass for 31 years) and it's make a difference to my life. I'm not in a band (well I practicing with some work friends to do a 1 off gig at our works party) but love playing after work to cds and my son is showing all the hallmarks of being a bassist rather than a 6 string guitarist as he naturally plays the melodies in songs and is quite good at it, I'll let him find his way to the light . Anyhow have fun! By the way liked you site. Cheers
Hi, Yepmop! What a nice post. It's great that your son is playing guitar at such a young age, and it's even more neat that it inspired you, too! I'm really glad for you. I hope you both continue. I tend to get restless if I can't pick up my guitar, so I can't imagine going years without playing it. However, I don't think my husband has that same love of music since he isn't too interested in just playing bass at home? I've only heard him play it twice in the four years I've been here. I've bought him Billy Sheehan tutorials, John Entwistle videos, etc... all hoping to inspire him; and, although he thoroughly enjoyed them, it just didn't motivate him. I have to respect his choice, it's difficult for him to feel motivated if he's always feeling stressed by life's circumstances. But at least your story gives me some hope. So I really appreciate you sharing your post about you and your son. Thanks!
 23.
I don't know. I think drumming would probably be regarded as less "girly" (whatever that means). I personally think girls who play the bass are fantastic; can't stand those ridiculously long fingernails or anything.
I don't like long fingernails either, but that's probably because I've played guitar since I was a teenager and they interfere in the playing (for me). I never understood taking so much time to make fingernails long and painted or painting toenails. But then, I was raised with only brothers. I tend to be feminine in other ways and would rather spend my time pleasing my partner, making sure he's well taken care of, etc... Don't mind dressing up, but I'm not one to have a ton of clothes, shoes, nor matching handbag. I'm practical. Maybe that's why my guy married me..... haha... didn't even want a diamond ring....
 24.
Let's face it though, having chosen the bass as an instrument I doubt us females on here are girly girls
ermm.... in some ways I am
