2.
From a live engineering point of view, you should always have a few different 'tools in the bag' to help make things fit together. That is the ultimate goal for a great mix. Everything should be individual and distinct as well as the mix soundling integral at the same time. I know that sounds like waffle but its kept me going for many years.. Personally, I love it when a group comes in and the bass player has a Warwick because I know there's a good chance I can make it fit* even if the sounds of the kit and other instruments aren't great. They're as easy to smooth out as they are gnarl up, whatever the situation calls for. * As long, of course the guy/girl can actually play the thing! Had to get that in, Warwicks are good but they don't have extra talent inside them!
Great perspective...and that disclaimer is absolute truth! Instruments are a tool...and a good tool can assist us in making things great, but it still has to be used properly! Thanks for this post!
 3.
It does seem to me that some producers are just unwilling to leave behind their Fender presets when mixing. Just sayin'.
I will agree with this on all counts! I've seen it happen quite a few times, and it only made me see that some producers wear blinders when it comes to things out of their comfort zone. Unfortunately a lot of players don't want to upset the guy who's going to make their album...but in my experience it stifles creativity. I also have seen this happen more to bass players than any other member of a band...
 4. The BEC II preamp by Warwick / Hansal (Later MEC company) was offered in 1984. MEC pickups became the standard Warwick pickup in 1988. Beautiful bass, BTW!!!
 5.
Amen to that brudda! My heart sank when Jeff told me to switch to that battered J when after I played him my brand spanking new Dolphin! The bass was like "Don't you know who I am? Philistine!"
And a Dolphin at that!! I'm telling you...that guy had no idea what that bass was capable of. : )
 6.
but some folks don't get them because they stand out a little too much may in an unconventional or perhaps an untraditional way.
This is very true! We build relationships with Artists who love the product, and build a bond with both the product and the company. If you look at our Artist Roster, its filled with many unconventional and untraditional artists. Its a VERY broad spectrum...and there are many who certainly fit the conventional bill...but there is quite a bit of unconventional/untraditional!!: T.M. Stevens, Bootsy Collins, Stuart Zender, Steve Bailey, Jonas Hellborg, P-Nut, Norwood Fisher, Jack Bruce, Robert Trujillo, Andy Saxton, Dick Lövgren, Jeroen Paul Thesseling, Ryan Martinie, Scott Reeder, and so many more original sounding bass players. At the end of the day, variety is the spice of life!!
 7. We did change from the chunky necks back to the slim necks in 2009 as standard. We currently offer 3 neck profiles on 4 string basses, and a 4th (Broadneck) profile on 5 and 6 string basses. You can view the differences here: http://warwick.de/modules/custom_shop/options.php?TYP=WOOD_NECK&submenuID=14620&katID=14626&cl=EN When it comes to engineers/producers...a lot of them seem to listen with their eyes lol! Recording something that they aren't used to isn't the players fault. Players should play the instrument that allows them to speak their voice as a musician...and not what an engineer is used to!
 8.
wow thanks, thats almost worth the trip on its own. Much appreciated.
Sept. 8, 2012 we're having an Open House Day - in celebration of Warwick's 30th Anniversary. We'll have live music, factory tours, meet & greets, food & drink....join us! : )
 9.
So many variations, I guess it always comes back to best to try em before you buy em. What is coming over is that they all sound quality machines.
If you ever find yourself in Germany, you're most welcome to come to Markneukirchen for a factory tour, and check out every model you can dream of in our showroom...where you'll find over 200 instruments! Please let me know if you've got any questions, or if I can assist you further. Thanks!
 10.
The sixers generally have soapbars, the Js predominate in the 5s.. (Streamers) My LX6 has SD Basslines as standard (MEC didn't do big enough pick-ups back then) Don't rule out the J/JJ designs: Vampyre, Infinity, Dolphin etc.etc as nearly all off them have coil taps for J/J, and the use of the bridge unit as a humbucker doesn't detract from the overall sound at all. I actually prefer it. Check them out.
I agree 100% on this. The twinjazz - jazz pickup combo is superb! There's a lot of versatility on the twinjazz pickup between the 2 coils...more than you would think. But the overall combo is really something to experience!
 11.
I can only dream a Custom Shop 6 string Vampyre
Have you seen this one? Stunning...
 12.
Thanks all, lots of info there. I was well impressed with the Warwick Official links. It was great to see the exctional images of one of the basses and the sound comparisons are great. My ear finds the LX and Streamer Stage ll particularly nice.
Glad to hear that it helped! Please let me know if you have any questions, or if I can be of assistance in any way. Thanks again!
 13. Our YouTube page has a wide variety of demos and product reviews. http://www.youtube.com/user/warwickofficial/ Andy's demo's are somewhat lo-fi, but give you a great feel for each bass. 14.
I heard Warwick already responded to the drop in sales by dropping production to up exclusivity.
Actually, production was cut so that we are able to ensure a higher level of quality and consistency. We are a relatively small outfit, and over-production was affecting QC. We've made major changes in the last 4 years, and now spend 22-30 hours per instrument vs. 6-9 in years prior. Every step of the build has rigorous checks for quality assurance, and no corners are cut - ever. We've invested in cutting-edge machinery, but also in acquiring the highest-skilled craftsman possible. Some of the instruments made previously wouldn't make it out of the factory today, and we feel that today's instruments are the highest quality in our history. All comments and feedback are welcome, which I will take back to the design team. We want the players involved and are open to all ideas of how we can improve. Thanks!
 15.
I would say that a Warwick being played through a 1990s furry-carpet Trace Elliot stack would be pretty damn unfashionable at the moment and sound pretty damn great. Also Warwick's website is the worst when it comes to trying to look at basses, so they are automatically uncool for me.
Our new website should be launched soon! We've been putting a lot of work into it, to make sure its done right. Thanks for your patience and support! Please let me know if I can assist in any way!
 16. I, too, think its beautiful...but what really got me was playing it. The depth and sustain is incomparable. We love doing builds that defy the norm...and I would love to assist you in any way. Keep us posted!! Best,
 17.
And Warwick Official, I will state that I LOVE the design of the Thumb SC; I think it's the bomb, and knowing how my BO Thumb sounds- Holy smokes, in a SC I bet it has bottom and resonance that could make me cry-and play it to no end. I have a "ship coming in" shortly so to speak, and having the Warwick Custom Shop, which IMO makes some of the most amazing Basses ever, do a 4-string Thumb SC- I'm sick! I had my Thumb built in a high-gloss Green; that's it, but SO well-done..Sorry about the pic, POS digicam. Having a THUMB SC 4-string built with options considered... Excuse me; I need to go meditate after that thought...
"If you can dream it, we can build it!" lol! Just let me know if there is any way I can assist you in making this a reality. I would love to see this idea come to fruition! Cheers!
 18. So do we have any BC members signed up for Bass Camp? Spots are waning, and so far we have participants from US, UK, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Czech, Romania, and Israel (and maybe some others by now!) Its shaping up to be an incredible event, and excitement is building! I hope to meet some of you there...please let me know if anyone has questions or if I can assist in any way. Thanks!
 19. The Thumb SC style may not be everyone's style visually, but the tone of it is absolutely enormous. The added mass gives it a depth and fullness that is astounding. Yes, basses these days may be prettier than ever, but when it comes down to it we shouldn't forget the main point is tone, and to have a tool that allows us to speak our voice as musicians!
 20. 21. The Streamer Stage 1 5 & 6 string models come standard as a Broadneck, meaning 20mm spacing at the bridge. 19mm is the standard spacing for 4 string basses, and other 5 & 6 string models come with a 16.5mm string spacing as standard. You can find many details here: http://www.warwick.d..._dimensions.pdf and here: http://warwick.de/modules/custom_shop/options.php?TYP=WOOD_NECK&submenuID=14620&katID=14626&cl=EN Please let me know if you have any questions, or if I can assist in any way. Thanks!
 22. Glad I could be of help, Mike! Best of luck, and hope we see you there! Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.
 23.
I did have a question actually... When gigging or playing for a long period of time, I find that the back of the body of the corvette gets wet through sweat (Hot practice rooms or hot stages) Would this be an issue with damaging the wood on a natural finish over time? I keep it regularly waxed with the Warwick BeesWax, would this keep it protected, as well as looking good?
DogHammer, Yes, the Wax will keep your bass protected as well as looking good! You can see a Care & Maintenance video on the Warwick website here: http://www.warwick.de/modules/infos/info.php?katID=24382&cl=EN Thanks, and please let me know if I can assist in any way.
