I set myself up for that, didn't I? 😂 It would be churlish to turn down such an opportunity.
Those prices are good, but if I buy, then probably a Harley Benton from Thomann, starting at 109 quid. Thanks for the suggestion though.

@AndyTravishas a couple of great Stingray 5’s for sale if you’re looking to buy.
Thanks, but it's just a stop gap while I'm here and, lovely as they are, a little out of my price range.

Maybe buy one at an online retailer from say Germany, get it sent to UK (if no-one can help out) and send it back as 'not suitable' upon your return?

Hiya,
I did consider that. It just feels a bit... mean of me? I think I might just go ahead and buy one to leave with one of my siblings that I can use on future visits. Or maybe resell at a small loss.

Shameless, self-interest type bump.

Would those long, continuous shots have been filmed using a mini-drone?

Sorry, I expressed myself poorly there. I meant the sweeps going along conveyor belts or through passages that wouldn't have been possible on a dolly. The cuts are, as you say, quite short and choppy.

How very helpful. Nice one Dad.

Greetings BCers,
I need to ask a favour. Could anyone possibly lend me a bass, so I can get the odd bit of practice in, in-between? Ideally a 5-string, but I would simply be glad of any help. I'm originally a Wallasey lad, but now live in Berlin. I am visiting the family in Wallasey from July 28th - August 10th. Immediately after my return to Berlin, I am doing my first show covering for a colleague - easy stuff but a ton of fiddly transitions and modulations. I am prepping now, but a 2-week hiatus directly before jumping in without a rehearsal is… suboptimal.
Thanks for any help,
Paul

Unusually for me, it was so hot I wore shorts on stage and the highlight was being told by one of the ladies in audience I had nice legs. I thanked her very much for the compliment but it was somewhat spoilt when I saw her looking for her guide dog shortly afterwards that was hovering by the food stand.
Look on the bright side. Your legs are so good you can actually hear it!

Oh dear... what a 'mare!
We turned up for a pub gig Saturday afternoon to be asked would we mind playing outdoors, at the bottom of the beer garden? 'Bottom of the beer garden' was exactly that - 50m from power (we can get you some extensions), no cover (there's a gazebo in the shed), nothing to stand drums on (do you want us to get some cardboard boxes); we politely declined and retreated to play in the bar... 1 hour later the heavens opened!
Oooh, all the markings of a deftly dodged bullet there matey!

Better than that, close inspection shows we were actually playing in the same key for once!

It's all about perspective isn't it? Chris Square is a legend if you look at bass from the right angle.

for silent practice i use and would recommend an iRig pro into ipad running amplitube
Hi @steve-bbb , I have a question regarding power. The Apogee Jam is powered from the iPhone which can cause it to drain relatively quickly. I looked for a double lightning splitter for my phone (so I could be on the charger and the Jam simultaneously) but the phone said “This function is not supported”. I see a power input on the iRig Pro - does that mean it wouldn’t have the power issue?

If you want an enhanced practice tool, rather than just being able to play along to tracks can I recommend Anytune? There is a free version (with ads) but it allows you to do loads with pitch and tempo changing, setting up practice marks and looping sections etc. Really useful!
Cheers
Pete
That sounds interesting. Thanks, I’ll give it a look.

That’s the spirit! Now you’ve popped your cherry, so to speak, it’ll just get easier and easier 😊👍

There's a Crazy8 in the classifieds that can do low level gigs as well as practice duty if you cart along a micro amp. The reason it got called Crazy is it has a very stout 8'' Faital in a very small box to put out like a dog on heat. Kinda pricey though.
Thanks for the suggestion but AmpliTube ticks all my boxes and is FREEEE!

Thanks for your help and suggestions guys. Particularly @fretmeister, AmpliTube does exactly what I wanted 👍 and is already in my pocket 😀. FYI, there's a thing in settings where you can switch on background audio i.e. you can play stuff directly from AppleMusic (or whatever you're using) without having to import it into AmpliTube.
Cheers,
Paul
