  1. Hey there, it's all a bit confusing with these basses. I'm trading one elsewhere on Basschat which I bought from new back in 1990 or 91 (I forget which).
One of the problems is that, as far as I can tell having read around a bit, in the Japanese and Taiwanese models (which are ostensibly the same quality, according to what I've read), the "A" stands for active, whereas the American built BB5000A's are passive instruments. Prices vary widely depending where you look. The American ones seem to be more popular and higher priced.

  2. Hello folks,

I have a Yammy BB5000A 5-string that I want to sell or trade

I bought it new in 1990, so, according to the serial No. on it (and the "The Guitar dater Project") PL 22072, it was built May 22nd (don't ask me how they new the precise date??) 1989 with the unit number 072.
It's a Made in Taiwan jobby, strung E-C at present, with the narrow neck: 36mm (from E-string to C-string) at the nut and 60mm at the bridge.

I gigged it in the early 90's, hence "that worn-in look", strung B-G, and didn't then touch it for years. I got it set-up and re-strung E-C about a year ago with the intention of trying some new stuff which I never got around to.

    Cheers,
    Paul

p.s. sorry if this is too many pics, just wanted to be sure and expose all blemishes.

  3. Bought a Fender SQ VM Jazz Fretless from Mark. Luckily I was in the area and ablr to test the bass out. It was in great nick and Mark was both helpful and uncomplicated.
I'd buy from him again, anytime.

    Paul

  4. Hello folks,

this is my first attempt at this, so please be gentle with me. I know that starting bidding for gear isn't allowed, but I have a Yammy BB5000A 5-string that I want to sell and have no clue what it's worth and the span of prices I've seen is pretty broad. So, I'm looking for tips from any of you experts out there as to what I should put it up for over at the Basses for Sale part of the site.

OK, enough blah, blah, here are the pics. I'd be grateful of any advice as to what she's worth.
