In the Last 10 or so years, when looking at amplification, I automatically scoot down to the bottom of the spec list - how much does it weigh?

I‘ve been meaning to ask, do you and the bear still keep in touch?

Depending on where your gig is, what about just renting a bass there? Or, dare I say it, see if a local member of the BC massive could lend you one.

Oh my giddy aunt! I’ve no idea how I managed to miss these guys for all these years, but I now officially have a new favourite band - thanks so much for posting that 👍👍👍

I follow Rhett Shull on YT and he posted a video about this singer songwriter. I quite like it, Joni Mitchell meets, er, The Meters, maybe? Anyway: Madison Cunningham…
I've just run into a bunch of her stuff. A great quirky guitar-player and fantastic songwriter...

Oh yes I am in my mid 50s with 2 sleep-averse kids…
I hope the rest of your weekend is just as agreeable

Doesn't that breach the terms of the restraining order?

Did they have string-through bridges back then? I honestly didn’t know.

Not sure which PJ are you are referring to, but if you mean the JP-55OP, those have a wider string spacing, yes.
I'm the same as you with regards to the MB-5 SBK, it's narrower than I'd prefer. I got used to it (used it live at the weekend for the first time at last, no issues at all) but I feel more at home with a wider spacing. The neck is wide enough so I considered replacing the bridge with something a bit wider but I never did. It's a possibility, if spacing is uncomfortable.
Thanks for your feedback - the one I mean looks more typically p-bass-ish and is the cheapest one they do (a lot less than the JP-55OP). I was in a jam and needed something to practice on while visiting my family in the UK (long story 😃).
The JP-55OP also has a 45mm nut. I'm curious as to whether the perceived string spacing lower down the neck is purely a product of the string spacing at the bridge or if the spacing of the cuts in the nut also vary (are perhaps set a little wider?). Any ideas?
Thanks again for your input.

Hi All,
after much hemming and hawing between an MB-5 SBK Deluxe Series and a PJ-5 HTR Deluxe Series, I plumped for the MB-5 SBK Deluxe Series. The bass is fine, but I find the string spacing a bit narrow at the low end of the neck. Not a big deal, but...
My question is, has anyone had both basses and is the PJ-5 spacing any wider? They both have the same width of nut, but I couldn't find clear info regarding spacing at the bridge.
Thanks,
Paul

I'm driving from the West Midlands to Manchester on Friday, for five quid petrol I'll pick it up and bring it with me if you want?
Once again, I am delighted at the kindness of this group. However, I have just taken delivery of a Harley Benton 5-string from Thomann. Thanks @StingRayBoy42for your kind offer of assistance.- 1

Love it. It almost looks like a sort of solo. And yes, I agree, it is exactly what we should all be doing.

Perhaps your intention (i.e., what you want out of this as an experience) has changed over time? Perhaps the others' hasn't. It's always good to be honest, and if you're not getting what you want out of it any more, maybe let the others know and look elsewhere. There's no need for acrimony, just clarify everyone's position and make a decision.

Post a thread in the stuff wanted forum describing what you want, where you can collect it and your budget.
Good idea. I've now done that. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you don’t massively need all five strings , I could detune a 4 😁
That is really very kind of you, especially offering to massively retune an instrument, but having practiced the material a lot, it has to be a fiver. Thanks so much for the offer,Paul

It’s only 2 hours away could a family member come and collect it for you?
😄
In theory yes, but when I factor in the petrol, plus it is a big ask of one of my siblings, the Thomann basses make more sense.

Calling @Bunion - you are a very naughty man. If I could figure out a way to get this up to the Wirral... hmmm
Thanks for taking the trouble, much appreciated,

They never seem to have now. Never when I check anyway. Used to get a bargain there.
Doh! Thanks for the response. At least I can take a look 👍 -
Can anyone remember what the term is that they use on Thomann for instruments that are damaged (I don't mean B-Stock, worse than that) and that they sell off cheap as chips - or should I say even cheaper than cheap as chips, but that have often proved to be playable?

I have a Peavey Foundation 5 sitting in a case doing nowt but am in SE Essex with no practical way of getting it to you or back again, short of courier. And for what that costs you'd be better off investing in a Harley Benton or a cheapie on eBay/Gumtree.
Thanks Paul, that is super kind of you. I am gradually gravitating towards the same solution.

I can lend you my Antoria Jazz bass (its only 4 strings...), its not worth much monetarily but it has sentimental value so I'd never sell it. But let's say, a £50 deposit? With the sentimental value, I'm 100% assured to return the deposit when you give it back.
14 hours ago, lurksalot said:If Paul’s offer doesn’t work give me a PM , I don’t have any 5’s though
Guys, thank you so much for your kind offers, but despite my own statement at the top of the thread, having worked on the material a lot since then I have realised that I really do need a 5-string. I'm not the greatest sight-reader, so I'm essentially learning lines/patterns that would require a different position on a 4-string (granted, a useful exercise, but not with the time constraints I am under) and it's muscle memory I am working on for this gig.
Thanks again and sorry for wasting anyone's time.

Sire Jazz replacement machine heads
in Repairs and Technical
Posted
Hi All,
I‘m on tour and opened my case yesterday, only to discover that one of the machine heads is broken off of my Marcus Miller V7 Alder-4 AWH (2015). Thomann need 10 working days to send replacement parts.
My question: does anyone know if normal Fender or other parts would fit on a Sire Jazz or would that require extra drilling?
Cheers,
Paul
