1. scour the net for a crash course on electronics relating to amplifiers, i'm sure there's some out there. then if you're an engineering nerd like me you'll come to appreciate good amplifier design, not just for the tubes. though for purely practical reasons, you can just continue playing through the PA as it gets the job done. it might be a good idea to own a cheap-but-powerful amp though, if you come by a gig that doesn't have a PA.

3. anyone? i sent ESP two emails but to date they haven't replied :\
4. i've known Paypal/eBay to be corrupted from their actions against Wikileaks, but that's is just daft.
5. wow thanks for so many replies. i'll have to look into all these other suggestions too. i'll be pondering on these for some time, and while i gather the funds. with the EBS and Glockenklang cabs, i'm starting to wonder if Glock may have better design and construction that the EBS. though they're similarly priced the Glock uses a conventional speaker, whereas the EBS uses a neo magnet which will likely eat a good portion of the asking price of the cab. i don't think weight is the biggest issue with 112 cabs as they're fairly manageable anyway. on the other hand if a cab is light as a feather, it'd be pretty cool to be able to walk effortlessly to the drummer's place with bass on my back, amp in one hand, and cab in the other.
It's worth buying what you really like and then forgetting about it as it works out cheaper
yes that's what i'm going for. i've found through my guitar adventures that having semi-decent gear pays off in the long run, keeping the GAS away, and potentially better resale value. as a (currently) hobby bassist i intend for this setup to be a keeper.
6. as i intend to play with a drummer occasionally, i've decided to build a mid-powered rig which i'm currently saving up for. i'm also considering the EBS Neo 112 or the Glockenklang Space Deluxe (112). i'll probably couple it with a Reidmar, and get a second cab in the future if i ever need more volume. i see some very positive comments for the EBS Neo 112 but some others say that it lacks depth, and farts out early. what's the deal with this cab? nowhere near me stock it so i can't try it out myself. i got turned on to the Glockenklang from this little shootout, but can't find much info on them anywhere else on the net and only Thomann sells it afaik. does anyone have experience with this cab?
7. played the flute for a short while when i was very little, and from then i had a non-musical period. then one day a few years ago i thought it would be a fun project to build a guitar from scratch, so i did that and ended up enjoying playing it too. i've recently picked up a bass for some more variation. the two instruments are similar enough that they don't feel completely alien going from one to another, but different enough that they require different technique and playing style. it makes for a nice change from the 6-stringer.
8.
If you're going to have only one bass ....... it has to be a USA Fender Precision. Don't accept any imitations. Fake is fake. Get a real one.
to be honest, there's nothing that says to me that a USA Fender is a "real" one. they might have originally been the first one, but that doesn't mean that all the others are fake. it's like saying that all the classic Disney movies are fake.
9. i used to use the commercial lemon oil you find in guitar shops, but nowadays i just use a slightly damp cloth and elbow grease. rosewood is an oily wood and doesn't need much done to it.
10. i've been thinking of getting one of these (or the 44) and pair it with a nice cab. how loud does it get before distorting? EDIT: wow sorry for the necrobump - i just realised after i posted. this thread appeared at the top of this forum.
11.
You can't actually rely on a multimeter to test batteries unless the battery is under load (i.e. connected to the circuit it is intended to be powering and working).
yah, that's what i did - i tested them while they were connected to the circuit.
12. so i have an ESP/LTD bass that has stock pickups, they are ESP's own-brand SB-5 soapbar-style pickups. i had a peek in the cavity and if i remember correctly i think i saw a G&B preamp. i have no idea if the pickups are active/passive but there's that preamp in there and the bass has a separate cavity to take a 9v battery. i'm wondering what the maximum voltage this kit can safely take is? i know EMG pickups have a max supply voltage of 27V, but these aren't EMG so i'm wondering if anyone knows anything about them? i did change the battery to a fresh one and it made a small but noticeable improvement in sound, even though the old battery wasn't in any way flat. it measured a healthy 9.14V on my multimeter, and the new one measures 9.56V.

Hai

hello! lone guitar player here who decided to pick up the bass as well. i've finished my degree for some while now, but since there's no jobs around anywhere i need something to do! guitar-wise i tend to play metal-esque stuff (no blues!!) and with bass i seem to be gravitating to the funky side. i'm on the hunt for an amp to plug into as i'm currently playing a the bass version of the vox Amplug.
