  1. I've tried to find the specs of the Hofner Black pickups but not had much luck in finding any, however I have considered replacing the pickups for a more distinct tone anyway so will have to see, i was thinking shielding but on clean there's no interference at all... so not sure if shielding is worth it.
  2. Hi all, haven't posted on here for quite a long time, I have a slight issue and wanting some opinions on such. Also hope this is the right category for the post. Earlier this year I came into possession of a Hofner Galaxie 185 bass, got it in mint condition second hand for 150. It is an amazing bass and promptly replaced my Jazz copy as main bass. The problem I have is I like using distortion a lot (I enjoy quite trashy, glassy, growly sounds) and I get a huge amount of feedback even when facing away from the rig... I didn't have this problem with my jazz copy, which allowed me to turn around for deliberate feedback. I also find this quite strange to say that in my logic... the single coils on the jazz should be noisier than the (if unmistake) twin coils on the Hofner.... So should I maybe try different dist/od pedals? Pickups? EQ pedal? Shielding? Anything else? Any opinions are very much appreciated
  3. Bought an incredible Peavey rig off Clive that was in the exact (and good) condition he specified and for a very reasonable price. No hassle of anykind, and a very polite and helpfull man. I would say if you are looking to buy something off him you are by no means doing a bad thing. Cheers Clive!
  4. Right then, thats cleared up, cheers y'all!
  5. Boss ODB-3? Certainly not the most avante gard pedal but does a nice job, I find i can get whatever drive i want with the blend, high and low.
  6. Hello, without out failing to maybe seem like a complete tool, what does power rating on cabs mean in RMS and Continuous? I've never really learned for myself and never had any problems running cabs (I was told many years ago to make sure the wattage of the cab was higher than the head by a fraction and to hold regard for impedance). So what do both terms mean? If anyone could explain that would be great
  7. Unsure if anyone is still following this thread but I have had an old 410XL (rated at 240W 8ohm output) for quite some time and have had some trouble with buzzing on higher register notes. Myself and a few others have had a look at the drivers themselves and can't find any sign of tearing or melting. Has anyone got any ideas why my cab is doing this and what can be done to solve this? Either way I feel that i might need to update the drivers to the more recent ones, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  8. Heyup mate, It seems that this is how a lot of bass players started out, I started on guitar and there was a bass knocking about my dad's house so i started picking it up and finding i prefered the groove from bass. I still dabble with guitar here and there I guess whatever instrument gets your fingers moving to begin with is a good starting point peace out
  9. Hey ya'll, i'm currently after a Peavey Mark VI bass head. I currently own a Hartke HA2500 and an old 410XL. My set up is great, nice enough sounding and loud, but i'm after something with more old school warmth and at the studios i sometimes rehearse there it was... the Mark VI. I know my stuff on late 80s early 90s Peavey and this was a complete GEM! Unfortunatly the guys at this place wouldn't sell or trade it with me so I thought I would try my luck here. So i'm willing to pay between £80- £120 (I know their current value) for said head, if you want a HA2500 I will happily do a straight swap! Any other trades or anything of the sort I will be interested. I'm in sheffield and theres only so far I can travel, but if you drop me a line I will see what can be done. Peace out :)
  10. hello mate, do you still have this for sale (to say my reply is rather late) as i am on the look out for something along these lines, i fell in love with a Mark VI at a rehearsal room, and the cab looks great, really hope i'm not too late
