  1. I love his different tones.. even the distorted ones. It all just radiates energy and that's what touching. Met him once and we shared a quick lunch together in France. 2. Always been a fan of bridge pick-ups... couldn't stand too bassy tones and I needed to cut through with my Wal basses, Alembic, jazz-basses, etc...
My hand reached for that bridge position whenever I picked up a bass and felt comfortable there.
It was only because of nostalgia that I bought this '71 Precision here on bass-chat (Fischer Z, The Pretenders, Joe Jackson.. they all had these white Fender-ish basses) and I saw it as a present for my own birthday.
I hadn't expected how much it would change my way of playing... found myself playing with a different feel and was surprised that even with those flatwounds (which I associated with blues-players who absolutely wouldn't want to be heard, not even by dogs) the sound was very present and lively. It's like again a door has been opened by a great instrument and I feel a bit more like a "bass" player again without "sacrificing" anything..
Can't wait to see how it will affect my playing in different bands.. Recorded a bit of noodling in the key of G.

  3. Removed the pickup and the bridge cover but although I usually don't like flatwounds I've kept them on the bass..They give the bass a certain "honk" without sounding too bassy.. recorded a short clip with the bass. 4. I was just looking for a bass with these kind of specs (white with a tortoise pickguard) and this one was for sale... there is a certificate signed by Georges Gruhn which states it belonged to Willy Weeks. The price was rather normal, the namedropping didn't really add to the price but it's nice to know...It's an inspiring bass which makes me play different stuff... that's the most important. 6. Preferred Waters on bass too... just got a bit more class to it. All that solitary jumping around by Guy Pratt, reminds me of someone who longs to be in Haircut 100 playing "Favourite shirt". Loved the Final Cut-album too, although a lot of PF fans don't... The lyrics and the honesty in them touch me every time.

  7. Great playing but it reminds me of the Frankfurt Music Messe..sometimes I think the technique and the breaks came first and then they start working on a song. It just makes me want to hear Steve Gadd's smooth grooves or a great Earth Wind and Fire-song instead of this "on steroids"-thing. Bit too much music for musicians imo, I love virtuosity but when there's too much emphasis on it..

Isn't that a bit picky? Besides, you shouldn't play like anyone else, even when doing a cover. Give it your own signature. Girl done good I say. Good nonchalance too.

Again, I've got no idea how she would play it.. the original track is too loud in the mix to judge. She did the same thing with the slap bass on the Jackson tune. There's nothing that I love more than see and hear someone do a good job but in this case the information isn't very clear. More like a glorified playback too me..

  9. Been looking at these pictures a lot...there's something about these basses which I have always adored and I know that the sound is close to a jazz on steroids. It's that I have a nice Jazz bass otherwise I would have done stupid things and would sacrifice my Stingray.Good luck with the sale, I hope this gets sold quickly so I can stop staring.

  10. I didn't dare to check it out since I don't even know if these are normal strings which are used.. I'll contact the builder to have some more info but as long as it stays in place I don't think there is a problem.. There's not a lot of pressure on the strings so I doubt that the E should snap. One of the reasons why I bought it, is that I have this Harvest double gigbag and whenever I take two basses along it weighs a ton..With this bass as a spare it gets a bit lighter in the end without feeling "unsafe"

  11. Got this bass through a trade..
    They are made in Italy..
    Ash body
    Maple neck
    rosewood fretboard
    Warwick Machine Heads
    Göldo Bridge
    Mama MM Pickup
    Passive (Vol. Tone)
Not as lightweight as you think it would be and you have to get used to the smaller fret-spaces.
But this is definitally not a toy, it sounds like a grown up MusicMan.. a bit boomy but with a bit of equalising on the amp you can get it under control. The strings were a bit dead when I unpacked the bass and haven't changed them yet (they weren't even underneath the string tree on the headstock) but that's not a priority right now.
I'm gonna take it to a gig this weekend and see what happens...
Took some pictures and made a small clip to give an impression although I still have to get used to it, due to the size.
