1.
Very nice, I wonder if they'll arrive the same day lol 08/09/15 update: "We begin to work" - Adrian Si
Nice update - sounds like you'll get your Jake a little ahead of me!! I hope he starts work soon so I don't end up modifying the spec (Joke!) G
 2. Hey Si, She sounds like a real beauty and cant' wait to see the updates. It was a busy day for Adrian today as my order went it today also!!!!!!! Very similar to yours with the only difference being: Colour Finish (I went for Vintage White) Scratchplate (Tort) Pickups - Same set up and configuration but I went for Delano's Standard Scale 10 weeks............... tick, tock, tick, tock!!
 3.
From what I understand, Rosewood and Ebony are opposite ends of the Bright & Dense spectrum, with Pau Ferro sitting somewhere in the middle. If I can specify a dark Rosewood, that would be great, waiting for Adrian. He's a saint if he has to deal with even half the emails I've sent with each customer!! Si
Might have been easier and cost less in terms of his time to hire a bus and stick us all on it and have us driven there........!? Now that I think of it...................... Beep Beep !
 4.
I specified dark rosewood :-)
Aha Watson............problem solved !!
 5.
Surely you can specify what kind of colour of fingerboard you'd like, or at least a ball park? Adrian seems very happy to do his best to meet every requirement you might have, so if you want a darker coloured board like WOT's, just ask nicely I think you should perhaps consider how the board will sound, if you want something that sounds like a more fender vintagey style instrument, ebony probably isn't a good idea. Eude
+1
 6.
I don't think I'd consider the JPJ configuration, I much prefer a P in the neck position than a J. The JJ in the bridge should prove to be versatile though. I'm now going back over the fingerboard wood choice.......the trouble is it's difficult to decide based on photos. WoTs fingerboard looks nice, fairly dark rosewood, but some on the website look pretty washed out, again may be bad lighting. Adrian forwarded me a photo of a bass with an ebony board, but it looks more slate grey than black with subtle ebony grain (see attachment), possibly just the lighting though? Si
Yeah, I agree the more I think about it. There should be more than enough in terms of tone with the P / JJ set up. The more I look at it, visually it looks a little "busy" to my eye in a J/PJ configuration. I noticed the discrepancies between the Rosewood fingerboards on the website. They seem to be a little more consistent on the Facebook page from my initial scans. So I'm guessing that this is simply photo/ lighting as they also differ from the video to the photos on the website. At this point I'm going with the Rosewood as I'm most familiar with them (and will just mention the colour tones to Adrian in the specification process) See you on the other side fella! Graham
 7.
Definitely Ebony for me
Charic - Is an Ebony Fretboard brighter tone-wise than a Rosewood? All my previous basses have had Rosewood boards so this is my only point of reference! Thanks a mil.
 8.
Not a dumb question at all, on the face of It there's no downside really, especially as it's switchable between the two. In my head it was an aesthetic thing, it's a much chunkier pickup, and a cost thing. As it happens, I'm not bothered about the aesthetic, and it's no extra cost to have JJ instead of J. So wth that said, I have a finished spec Si
Nice one! Potential curveball time.................. Although a 5 string is used in the demo, did you consider the J/P/J set up like in this Jake: http://www.public-pe...-5p-black150164 ??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KprsqMRb0wY ??
 9.
Think I'm with you on that. Decisions made, just need to decide about JJ Vs J Si
Si, sorry for the dumb question but is there a downside to the JJ as a humbucker over the J single coil? Graham
 10.
So i'll be going for a Jake. If you look at the old Fender Shoreline Gold colour, it tends to be a more greeny gold (possibly because of the aged lacquer), whereas the Maru Shoreline Gold is more orange. With this in mind, when I do the squinty eye/tilt head test, I can't really imagine a mint green/parchment/vintage white scratch plate going with the Maru gold. As such, like Eude, I am leaning towards a black scrratchplate. With that in mind, I was also leaning towards a Pau Ferro fingerboard, but I wondered whether Ebony would be a nicer match to the rest of the ensemble?! I'm also now thinking about the JJ humbucker arrangement for the bridge pickup over the single J....hmmmmmmmm Si
She'll be a looker No doubt about it. I think I'll go the JJ Humbucker too. But I better up the ante in the finish dept are mine might end up been the "plain looking one" of the group
 11.
Think I might pay the deposit on mine this week, struggling on fingerboard/scratchplate combinations on a gold body though :-/ Si
Nice! I wish I was only down to fingerboard/ scratchplate combos' (me head is melted as they say over here ) I've watched so many Public Peace bass demo's on Youtube that last night I couldn't sleep for Adrians' basslines going over and over in my head, not to mention the soon to become catchphrase of "and that's the sound!" Great! Anyhow Si - what are you going to go for Jake or Elwood??
 12.
Silly me... I tightened the jack socket by hand when I was in a hurry, and the whole jack spun and pulled a wire off in the cavity. What a cloon. Anyway, here's a couple of pics of the cavity, while I was in there. Tidy, eh?
Now that is clean cavity - man!
 13.
For Sandberg pricing it's far better to go to a German dealer. I got my California TT4 passive with ebony board, matching headstock and pearl block inlays for £920 ish.
Yeah - especially with exchange rates € v £ Thanks fretmeister
 14.
You should check out some of the stuff Adrian puts up on the Facebook page then! Whilst the website is some great eye-candy, the FB has some really great interpretations following on from the stock basses for other clients (and sometimes some sound samples as well).
Good call, will do!!
 15.
Hi mate, Sorry for being slow to get back to you - I only just saw your post. I've gone for an Elwood in the end. The stunning thing is that even with the high-end options and custom stuff the price is still outstanding. For my one I have ordered the Elwood X model, which is the basic Jazz shape. It has a flamed maple cap on the alder body with a matte red-burst finish. I've got black block inlays and black neck-binding on a maple fret-board, black hardware, an MM/Single Delano pickup config and a Delano 2-band eq with active/passive options. All of that came to just shy of £850 (around 1150 euros) which is about the same price as a higher-end Mexican Fender. In terms of contacting Adrian just email him on the [email protected] address. He's pretty quick at getting back and more than happy to help out with any questions. It might take a while to get your dream bass set up but he seems to be full of good advice. Also, check out the pick-ups from Bass Culture that he often uses. They're pretty awesome if you're looking for a smoother tone - I was very tempted but erred toward the Delano's in the end having used a Maruszczyk with them in already and loved it. I must admit I am already getting GAS to order a Frog 5-string with Bass Culture pick-ups. Anyhow, I hope that helps a little - let us know what you go for in the end! Best wishes James
Hey James, Man, that Elwood sounds beautiful and a great spec also! To be honest I'm slowly moving to the idea that my new bass maybe "active" with the Glockenland Preamp that's in the Elwood. If I go down that route I think that I will do for the Delano pickups also. The Maruszczyk that you played was it an Elwood also? I have emailed Adrian a couple of times with some general questions so I think that I will just keep on going. I was trying to get as much feedback from other players as possible to try and reduce the number of emails to Adrian Thanks again, very helpful and I will post updates when reach the end of the search/ question raising / information gathering / video watching / audio listening / forum reading / image viewing etc etc Best, Graham
 16.
The main thing here is that given each bass is made by hand, the website serves more as a collection of examples rather than options in the traditional sense. I found that emailing Adrian was very helpful as he offered me some great insight into the best pick-up/electronics etc given what I was after in terms of end result.
Thanks James. I have emailed Adrian and at the moment trying the decide on the best PUP set up and type. I'm trying to decide between a Split Coil (Neck) w/ J Single Coil in bridge (like wateroftyne's) or Split Coil (Neck) with Split able Humbucker in the the bridge!! Then add to that the make of Pickups. Did you go for Delano, Haussell or Maruszczyk in the end?
 17.
He copied the neck of my favourite '71P: 42mm nut, 22mm thickness front-to-back at the 1st fret. I didn't specify the string spacing or the radius... it just came out spot-on.
Great, thanks. Love the "it just came out spot-on"! It's giving me lots of confidence with these basses, just that there is now soooooo.... much choice on the website
 18.
I have very little experience with the Sandbergs or Lakland Skylines so I can't compare in any useful detail, but I've lived with my Maruszczyk Jake for a good while now, and I just can't fault it, and that's without taking into account how little it cost. It's absolutely top-spec.
What radius measurement did you go for in the end? Thanks Graham
 19. Thanks Chris, I haven't ruled out the Fender American Standards and I can demo these as they are available. The post was to try and get some info on the others and even in comparison to the Fender Am Std would be great also Thx
 20.
I always played Fender shaped basses until I found Spectors and I've not looked back. They certainly don't lack punch! TBH what you need to do is get out there and check out the options for yourself. An internet forum can guide you so far, but you need to see, hear and feel the things in meat-space to make a truly informed decision.
Yeah there is no replacement for playing them yourself, thanks Billy Apple
 21.
I have very little experience with the Sandbergs or Lakland Skylines so I can't compare in any useful detail, but I've lived with my Maruszczyk Jake for a good while now, and I just can't fault it, and that's without taking into account how little it cost. 22.
Why limit yourself to Fender shaped objects. How about a Spector Euro? Active pre, with PJ pups, a 16" radius board and a very comfortable curved body.
Not sure to be honest Billy, over the years no matter what I have always been drawn to these style basses. Spectors (from my limited experience) do have incredible range
