1.
I don't think they offer that for the Electra basses. Its only an option on the full German made ones.
Correct the California range has far more options than the Electra - which is simply a TT (Jazz) or VM (P)
 2.
I doubt you could go far wrong with any of those choices, they're all really nice basses. I've not tried the Skyline but I have looked at both Sandberg and Maruszczyk basses over the past month and I found both to be stunning instruments that sounded and played beautifully. Personally, I chose to go with a Maruszczyk in the end for two reasons: (1) the price was just amazing. You're getting a top-quality hand built instrument for around the same money as a Fender Mexican P-bass which is just outstanding. (2) they are fully customisable - Adrian is more than happy to build your bass to any spec you can dream of. You can pick exactly the neck dimensions, inlays, colour, woods, pick-ups, pre-amp etc that you want. The ones on their website are examples but if you can imagine it chances are they can do it. The Sandberg's are nice though - just you're limited to the set range of options. If you are ever over this way (London/Essex) you're more than welcome to try my Maruszczyk. Anyhow, I hope that helps a little Best wishes James Edit: Just noticed you're looking at the Electra version of the Sandberg - I just wanted to add that I only tried the proper German models so I cannot say how similar the Electra is.
Cheers James, appreciate it and especially the invitation to drop in an try your Maruszczyk. Did you go for a Jake or Elwood in the end? One of the great benefits is the ability to customise to your preferences but if I'm completely honest I not sure I really know what mine are! 3.
My passive TT4 (California ) is punchier than my active TM5 Both sound great, just different.
Yes I think that the TT California is a different animal to the Electra range. My concern about these is that they might feel/ sound too much like the poor man's version.
 4.
I tried a Sandberg TT once (German made, not the Electra series) and I have to say it sounded less punchy than the Squier Jazz I had at the time.
Thanks JapanAxe. One of the things that I had noticed when viewing some of the youtube videos of the Electra TT is that it had a very mid-bright tone (even a little "thin") to my ears. Though I could easily be wrong having not heard or played one.
 5. Gorgeous looking and sounding bass. Funny I have just put up a post looking for some insights into any comparisons between the very same Lakland Skyline and these basses. If you have any that would be great As a matter of interest what neck radius and string spacings did you go for in the end? Thanks Graham
 6. Hey All, Advice, thoughts, insights and musings would be very welcome to me on this one. I'm currently looking for a new bass after selling my 70's Classic Series Fender Jazz. The reason I sold it was that I didn't really like the neck (Fender Vintage C type), and also the Pup's were not as punchy as I had hoped. Ok I could have swapped them out but the ticker radius neck never felt as good as I hope in my hands. So I'm currently looking at the following basses (budget focused) and was wondering if anyone of BC had some experience with all or some and would be able to give me some advice or comparison insights. The basses are: Sandberg Electra TT Maruszczyk: Elwood or Jake (with P/J configuration) Lakland Skyline(s) : 44/64 Custom or 44/64 P/J Overall, I'm wondering how the stack up against each other in terms of playability, tones, build etc. I also have an '86 Ernie Ball Musicman Ray. So I'm looking for a bass that with a nice "modern flatter neck radius" and have a little more tonal variety than a straight passive P Bass (Not that I don't love this - but would like a little more hence perhaps the P/J pickup might be the answer?? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Difficult, if not impossible to play any of the above here in Dublin so feedback very welcome. Thanks for all, Graham
 7.
Hi folks, Just felt like sharing my going crazy with anticipation here. My new Maruszczyk Jake is on its way to me this morning via Fed Ex - could be here any time between now and 6pm this evening. I fear I am going to spend the whole day sat by the window doing an impression of my dog when he is watching out for the postman Anyhow, pics to follow shortly once it arrives! James
Hey Naetharu, are you getting a Jake or an Elwood? Just curious as I'm very interested in these basses also. They look and sound great and with all the options available - choosing the right one is nearly that hard part !!! (As a complete aside, I was also emailing Adrian about the 2nd bass and you beat me to the purchase! - Small world and for what it's worth I was also a little concerned about it's condition hence I delayed.... ) As a matter of interest did you email Adrian the spec for your new bass and work it out with him over email and is it best to do it over the phone? Any advice, insights greatly appreciated. Cheers
 8. Thanks guys for the welcome, I'm loving the forum - spent a long time yesterday on the technique section reading some great advice to ensure that I dont re learn (or fall back into) some old bad habits. Back practising every day now and loving it - even the scales (well to a certain extent ) Picked up a beautiful MIM Fender Jazz 70's Classic over the weekend - she's a real beauty and plays like a dream. Thanks for the welcome, best Mal.
 9. Nice work Chris, great player to study. +1 for the book: 'The R&B Masters - The Way They Play' by Ed Friedland. I really liked it and a great addition to the SITSOM book. Really good adcie also in the previous post. Keep up the good work and best of luck.
 10. Hey All, Just wanted to say hello to everyone, just joined yesterday and Im really impressed with the forum so far - great range of discussion sections and threads plus all the temptations to lie in the classifieds area!! I'm from Dublin and have been playing since circa '86. I was in a few bands back in the day and was lucky enough to be able to get some recordings out there also. When I stopped playing full time and began the day job I didnt pick up a bass again for about 6 years or so (I know criminal!) - I suppose I was just trying to remove the temptation of just wanting to play bass for a living and develop another career. (I'm over that now! and glad to say that I;m back in the saddle!!!) Current basses are: 1989 G&L Asat (All natural) / 1985 EBMM Stingray (Black) / Ibanez Acoustic. Though the Asat is probably going on sale very soon. Inspired by the usual greats - Jamerson / Babbitt / Entwhistle / JP Jones / Family Man Barrett / Jack Bruce / Duck Dunn / Geddy Lee / Nathan East/ Stanley Clarke/ Marcus Miller / Jaco - etc (big motown & sou/r&B fan) Right now Im trying to get that "left hand" working again - Man I should have spent more time working on those scales and excercises when I was younger 'cause now it feels like I have just picked up the bass for the first time! Anway, hope to get alot from this forum and maybe even contribute aswell. Thanks all.
