1.
I've already used Mike on one of my gigs and he's brilliant. Knew the songs better than the rest of the band!
I can second that (although it's a bit late for December). Mike is the Guvnor! He also does BV's AND survived a dep from Hell that I (honestly!) couldn't do ... (sorry mate) with a fairly well known 80's band 'Len, Jerry & Co'- I still owe you a beer Mr B. xx pj
 2. R.I.P. Wigfindergeneral My thoughts are with the family
 3. Easy! Start a new band with your brother. You can easily fit in the four gigs a year with 'The Growlers'. It's a shame to split the band up after all these years. A new project beckons Good Luck
 4. Great bass players all! What's the deal with Carole Kaye ... Did she play on everything? I think she may have been credited with a lot of Jamersons sessions - could never figure it out! I love Me'Shell and also the amazingly fearless bass playing of Tal Wilkenfeld. She is a rock! Also, may I add Midus Guerriero who is fantastic and also a great singer and finally the beautiful Gay-Yee Westerhoff (cellist from 'Bond') who is a monster funky electric bass player too.
 5.
.... and don't forget Dance The Night Away and Wonderful Tonight!!!
Ladeeez an a-genemen, Mustang Sally 500 Miles Hi-Ho Silver Lining I'm A Believer and of course "I'm luvvvin Ayngellllz H-Insteaddddddd-a And Throooo it (drop the octave here) Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwlllll" It's the reason I started playing cheers pj
 6. I Want You Back - Jackson 5 (Jamerson? I can play it bar the middle section - I kind of gave up when I realised I'm average) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQLZmGybUXU FYI Wilton Felder (The Crusaders) played bass on 'I Want You Back' Cheers PJ
 7.
MB1. Saw her in Manchester with her band many moons ago when that track came out as a single off Diamond life. She is indeed a very good singer and stunningly beautiful. Her bass player played a musicman stingray under his chin (very high) and still does apparently! Great band smoochy or not!.
The bass player is Paul S. Denman. Think he lives in LA now. pj
 8.
Yes this is the recent book by famous bassist Guy Pratt - part autobiography, part musical history, part stand-up comedy. A great book that you will read from cover to cover in no time because you wont be able to put it down. This is the hardback version, it was only published a few months ago and I'm giving it away. The first person to PM me with their address will get it. Amazon Review is here Oh, did I mention that there are some terms and conditions? First up, this is not your book. It's a communal book now. Once you've read it you must post it back on this thread to be passed on to the next person who wants it. Oh and if you've not read it inside a month then pass it on anyway slowcoach. Erm, that's it!
I have Guy's book! I bought it and finished it in two days too. it's very funny... The Coverdale quote: 'These are dark days indeed for a cocksman!'
 9.
Once had the (not particularly) mighty Chas & Dave 'support' my band at the Cafe Royal in Piccadilly Fame of some strange kind indeed...!
I once stood in a queue behind Chas & Dave at Watford Gap Services. That's about as tenuous as it gets! No there must be more Now if you want to start an actual famous person funny story thread.....
 10.
you may have hit the brightness shortcut key (theyre f1 and f2 on my imac)
Basschat to the rescue! Thanks for the advice and help. I tapped f2 as the machine booted up and it came on again! Thank you again... was thinking it was going to be expensive pj
 11.
I've seen Mr Numan more time than I care to mention...not with Nick Beggs mind. I noticed Kajagoogoo (- Limahl) were touring the 80's revival circuit again (videos on youtube) and Mr Beggs has been the bassist with John Paul Jone's band (why does he need a bass player?) Joe Hubbard played on the woeful 'I Assasain' album by Numan but there is something excellent playing on Sister Surprise
JPJ plays keys too and NB is pretty handy with a Chapman Stick. Maybe there was a bit of instrument swapping going on (just a guess). Nick Beggs has played with 'nearly the whole of the 80's pop mainstream'. He is a great bass player. I actually still play (although not an original member) with an 80's pop/rock band... There are a lot of 'em still doing the Butlins circuit! Did John Taylor actually play on the Duran Duran stuff? Or Martin Kemp on Spandau songs? Just a rumour then Give me Pino with Go West anytime (although not New Romantic)

 14.
It is a nice part of the world to live in. Moved here 18months ago from Cambridge my band mates are based in Chelmsford, Brentwood, Hornchurch and we rehearse in Chelmsford. gigging this Friday in Braintree (morgan owners club Xmas do). I propose that any interested local bassists might like to meet somewhere convenient in the New Year, if not for a bash then a pint and a moan. Mike
Yeah..... A good old rant about how rubbish January usually is for us, and a nice pint of Real Ale!
 15.
Just curious..where in Essex..? Garry
Add Harlow to the list! There are at least four other bass players local to me too. pj

 21. Firstly, Happy New Year to you all. Already found two friends (Brooksy and Rumblebass) Am currently living in Harlow, Essex. Been playing forever and pro since 1988. Been a Warwick endorsee for twenty years (man and boy). Have played with many a band/artist over the years and have been around the world a few times playing and sometimes just miming on tele. A great gig if you can get one - the safety catch is removed at the airport! - Vodka at 6am? Go on then ... Would be great to hear from anyone local who teaches Steam Bass (the big fiddle). Would love a few lessons, really got a bee in my bonnet about getting one this year. Cheers, pj
