1. Hi, I have recently aqquired a Canyon II. I got it as a swapsie from a retailer as it wasn't outputting any meaningful signal. Finish is lovely, I like the weight and balance, after a quick setup plays very nicely. However... Quote ''Sound? None at all to start with. Pulled off the back panel and saw some bare twisted wire joints and soldering done by a 4 year old. There had to be a snag and I found it. Soldered up the joints, wrapped it all up nicely with insulation tape and it worked. What was that about? Had the previous owner had a go at this or was this factory work? I'll never know. Half the soldering looked fine but half was awful.'' Same deal with mine and despite my efforts to tidy it up - still no sound. Eventually rang Tanglewood (EMC) and got them to supply a new active circuit (active circuit itself is sealed in epoxy, so no chance of diagnosing possible problems) and wiring diagram. To their credit they supplied one. Wired the new circuit and pots in and got a sound. However, I then decided I would replace the rather poor supplied jack with a higher quality one and took it to a local shop to have the part fitted (I had a busy week and figured this would be an easy option). 3 weeks later and the local shop return it - now not working with a bill for £30 of their time - I suspect they have somehow shorted the active circuit. They have lost my future custom, but thats another story... To cut a long story short - its a lovely bass but the stock electronics have given me a headache. I'm going to rewire it passive when I get a spare hour and buy an EMG when I have a few quid handy.
2. To start feedback ball rolling. Just collected [s]my[/s] OLP 5 String. Very nice man. Strongly recommended. Gray
3. Just swapped my ashbory for Matts Hohner Jack. Excellent deal and brill comms throughout with quick postage and no problems. Strongly recommend Matt as an all round good guy to deal with. Cheers Gray
4. Thats a very nice example - I've got 3 Musicians which I consider to be far less of them than I would like given infinite amounts of money. Not interested in a OLP Tony Levin 5 string by any chance ? Have a bump for a lovely bass. Cheers Gray
5. Still for sale / trades etc. Cheers Gray
6. Still for sale bump. Cheers Gray
7.
Interested in a fretless 5 string in cool black? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=congress Not far from you, work in Cleckheaton.
Many thanks for the offer - the Crafter looks a tasty bass but am afraid I will have to decline on that one. I'm also selling my 5 string OLP as I have discovered I don't really have need for a 5 string at the moment. I should say that I'm trying to thin out instruments to stuff that I actually play regularly. I've had a bit of a thought on the trades front - stuff I would be particularly interested in would include an Akai Headrush (or similar delay / looper) or an portable MIDI / Audio interface (MBOX type) to work with my macbook. Many thanks for the interest Gray
8. A rubbery summer bump. May consider trades etc
9. A low B summers day Bump. May consider trades etc.

I have a very unseemly 80's Ibanez addiction... 1980 Musician MC940. Modified with new finish, new control cover and EMG J type pickups. Plays and sounds wonderful. 1986 Musician MC2940 Fretless. Not a mark on this. Its a beauty. Here they are in sepia. I also own a lovely 1981 Musician MC940 in Pearl White , a 1984 Roadstar RS1200 and 1980 Studio ST90 6 strings. I had a 1984 Roadstar Bass which I deeply regret selling.
11. Hi, For Sale Fender Ashbory Bass. Immaculate condition. Black. Comes with original gig bag, ashbory.com strap and some talcum powder. I wanted one of these for years - and it is as good and as much fun as all reviews suggest. Unfortunatly, I am being forced to thin out instruments to those which are currently making me money. I'd rather not post it - I'm based near Huddersfield, West Yorks so please feel free to contact me for a try out. I'm looking at £220. Any questions please contact me. Cheers Gray
12. For Sale OLP Tony Levin 5 String Natural. Lovely instrument but am being forced to thin out collection (Please also see Ashbory Bass for sale). Instrument has been gigged but looked after - is in as new condition. No visible dings / chips etc. Nice top on this one as well. Any questions please feel free to ask. I'm looking at £220. I would rather not ship - instrument is available to try out / collect near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Cheers Gray
13. Just to share my experience rather than add anything to the debate. I graduated a decade ago from (at the time) one of the very few Popular Music & Music Technology degrees. Since then I have have worked constantly as a music educator / performer/ sound engineer. I've never had to work in anything none music related to make the mortgage. This said - I'm the only person from my degree class who has had this experience. From what I have seen over the last decade as a course tutor in a FE college - music education has improved, both in FE and HE. When I started my degree the experience was at times a touch shambolic - the feedback I get from my ex students suggests that HE is much more goal oriented and organised than when I attended. On the flipside I was introducing my students to the UCAS process last week and noted that in the UK there are now app. 1200 music related HE courses available. I seem to remember a figure of around 100 when I applied. This suggests to me that competition for any work (freelance or otherwise) amongst graduates is increasingly fierce. Many of the students who I have seen progress to HE have benefitted greatly from the experience - learnt some fascinating stuff in the ever evolving fields of art / technology and found useful employment, sometimes even in a related field. However, at least two of my ex students who choose not to progress to HE are currently touring the world doing arena size gigs. Many more are producing some beautiful music and holding down day jobs to support themselves. It is my view that HE focusses your mind and allows you the time to hone those skills (playing, technology and interpersonal) which are essential in getting work in the creative arts.
14. Hi - yes indeed - sunny Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Any interested parties please drop me a pm. Cheers Gray
15. Hi Folks, Just having a clearout - have a box of audio leads. Not entirely sure what is actually in there but its a fair assumption that there are some speaker leads (probably with XLR) and various assorted balanced & unbalanced things. They are untested and have been sitting in my cellar for a couple of years. Similarly 1 x 12'' CRT PC monitor. Working. May be of use to someone. If you want them let me know & come and get them please - cause none of it is worth the postage cost. + also just found 3m RJ45 male / male crossover cable in box unopened Old Cannon Scanner (no USB) approx 250 x 'Scuzzy - Easy Tiger Blues EP'. Possible the definitive work of Leeds most underated indie types circa 2001 Cheer Gray
16.
Having had a couple of things off here for free, it's time I put something back in. If anyone can use an unused (apart from the G which is cut a few inches past the tuning post and should be plenty long enough) set of Weed Whackers, fire me a PM with your address and they're yours. They are very chunky though and may not be suitable for all nuts. See here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=40673 Cheers, Ray
You have PM :-) Cheers Gray
17.
I'm just missing the hexcomp from my set up..... worth buying one then?
Yep - I would certainly say so. The flexibility of being able to do multiband compression with a graphic is amazing if your used to losing all the top end when you hit the compression (without buying a couple of grands worth of TC mastering compressor) It sound great on drums as well. I'm not aware that any other manufacturer has ever made anything similar either - which seems to me a big gap in the market for some bass playing electronics wizard out there.
18. I know I'm going to regret selling it to be fair - I spent a very long time finding one after dabbling with various other synth pedals. The tracking (it will track down to a low b with no glitching) and editing on it is incredible, but its a case of needs must at the moment sadly. I don't know why Akai insists on stopping making great pieces of guitar kit. I've got a Hexacomp as well which I wish I had brought another 20 of just to make sure I'm never short of one.. Gray
19.
whats the highest offer so far, just so we know were its at?? you dont have to say whos offer it is, but i think for the benefit of potential offerers it should be known
Fair enough. I assume that the person who has made the offer won't take offence. The current highest offer is £300. Cheers Gray
20.
End time: 19-Sep-08 14:49:39 BST (2 days 21 hours) ?
Was thinking last emails or pm's in for midnight on friday - if all interested parties are agreeable. The reason this hasn't been ebay'd is because it galls me less to sell this to people who might actually make use of it, and doesn't seem unfair to ask for best offers in this forum. Unless anyone has an issue with that ? Cheers Gray
21. Hi guys, I'm ending this on friday - so if your interested please let me know before then with an offer. Cheers Gray
22. Hi, If anyone wants to make an offer in the thread that is fine by me - but if people are more comfortable pm'ing thats equally good. Cheers Gray
23. Hi, Ben - yes I agree, however, I'd not be comfortable publishing offers made via PM. If anyone wants to make me their best offer within the thread please feel free. Cheers Gray
24. Hi Guys, I've had a few offers - I'm going to let this thread run till next friday if everyone is agreeable. I don't want to appear cynical in my quest for cash on this one but frankly I need the money ! I will let all people who have made offers know by the end of the week. Many Thanks Gray
