4. Hi Folks, Sorry my email has been a bit slack so I missed the various replies. I do indeed have the some of the mains supplies left. I will try and get a pic posted up here and PM all those who have expressed an interest by the end of the week. Meanwhile so you can get an idea http://www.studiospares.com/pd_406710_EMO%20C604%20PANEL.htm The panels I am selling are not EMO brand and do not have the 16Amp ceeform connectors. They have a 13Amp lead in and 6 x 13 Mains sockets on one side. The other side of the 2u panel is a blanking plate. Please PM with any questions Cheers Gray
5. Very true. Though theres a differance between an input being distorted - as in the gain stage of a nice valve amp, so you get nice 'musical' distortion rather than distortion occuring at the output, or even worse distortion as a result of a speaker reaching its mechanical limits http://basschat.co.uk/style_images/basscha...icons/icon5.gif I have to say at this point I have totally failed to apply this theory to my rig - a Markbass LMK rated at 500 Watts RMS into 4 Ohms into ashdown minicabs which are notionally rated at about 800 Watts, and I really like the sound it gives when its sitting at gigging volume. Imho ultimatly its all down to what works for the individual - subjectivly one mans 'boxy sounding crap' is another mans 'tight mid'. My favourite story (which may or may not be true) from PA world is that Turbosound decided to use the 'turbo blue' paint colour on their cabinets because it sounded 'better' in blind listening tests...
6. Hi, Just my pennies worth from PA hire world. Aside from the sensitivity ratings of speakers - which give you an average across the freq. spectrum. If you want to get really anal its worth looking at the THD (total harmonic distortion) figures for the amp being used to drive across its operational range. As is rightly stated a 4ohm cab and 8 ohm cab in parrallel would drop the impedance (to somewhere in the region of 2.67 Ohms). This is the primary consideration - semi pro power amps are usually not happy being driven below 4Ohms. So, unless your using a decent touring class amp 2 Ohms is to be avoided. Dropping an impedance below the rated value of the amp will result in instant fried output stage of the amp - and probable damage to the cabs. In PA world (particularly in regards to driving bins) its fairly standard practice to use amps which are twice the rated RMS output of the speakers they are driving (i.e. 1000 Watt RMS amp driving a 500 watt RMS cone). The logic behind this being that your amp has considerable headroom whatever input source is driving it - if you are driving an amplifier hard to attain the perceived volume from speakers (a function of sensitivity and rated output) constantly then it will distort. Ultimatly distortion will write off speakers fairly efficiently. So, better to have an amp turned down (i.e. in the middle of its operational range) but with enough headroom to cope with sudden peaks in input without distorting (speakers will survive quick transient bursts far better than continious distortion). Hope this helps Gray

9.
I have sunburst single pickup version of that Roadstar. They are a lovely bass to play, really nice neck. Great sound too - very punchy. Real quality. Recommended, especially at that price.... Tempted myself, but not keen on white guitars, for some reason. Jap, definitely not crap!
Thats my Roadstar. I've been very torn about selling it to be honest, but needs must. If it helps its more of an offwhite/cream colour after 23 years Cheers Graham
10. Hi Jamie, You woudn't be interested in swaps for power amps etc (please see my for sale listing) would you ? Cheers Graham

Hi Folks

Hi Pete, Living near Huddersfield to be precise. The ashbory is a brillant instrument but is has some substantial 'quirks' in terms of playability. 1) Intonation - Very hard to get accurate intonation due to scale length above about the 7 'fret' - the dot markers on the neckside are hopelessly inaccurate. If your not switching instruments you get used to it but going to the ashbory from a full scale fretless results (for me at least) a few bars of 'jazz improv'. 2) String Squeak / Talcum Powder issue - without the application of talc playing results in all manner of squeaks and a very 'sticky' feel. This means that wearing black for gigs is right out. On the plus side its got a totally unique sound with a wide tonal range and the short scale allows for some impossible stretches. Other than that its worth having just for the 'wow' factor. I use mine as a backup live.... Cheers Graham
