  1. This bass is now back home in Birmingham where it's undergoing a refinish. That's after getting it into the waiting list for the work. I always like giving work to busy people.
  2. All of the other basses I have are active. Some with two band EQ, some with 3 band. I invariably have the EQ set flat around the centre detent position on each. The most I'll ever do is move the pan pot 10 percent in the direction of the bridge pickup. It speaks volumes for the sound you get from a pickup in just the right place and doing nothing to the EQ.
  3. It's a standard series in Candy Apple Red. Maybe around 2004 or so ?
  4. I checked and they just say oiled finish. None of the two have a hard life, are kept in consistent warmth and humidity, but I was just curious if I needed to do anything.
  5. That's exactly right. I bought the six new and got the fretless from here and both feel very special to me.
  6. My lower end stuff has MEC bits in it, which I really quite like.
  7. I guess I should look and see how Mayones finish their basses. Thanks for the advice.
  8. The two basses in my avatar were built by them and the standard o construction is flawless, as is the playability and sound. There's definitely another in my future. ( Mine are badged fame, I'll admit that, but they're made by Mayones)
  9. Looking for tips and hints about what regimes anyone might have for the above. the two basses in my avatar have oiled finish and I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing. How often to re-treat, what product to use, how to apply it, how to polish after application.
  10. That's a detail too far for me as well ;-) We'll see how it plays and take it from there ;-)
  11. Good theory on the neck, but the logo is all wrong for one of those.
  12. I do like a bit of tort, but usually against a sunburst body. I'm curious to see whether an anodised one might fit on this. It'll end up as a plaything and the others can remain untouched.
  13. I'd agree and have to say it's not something I have any notion for. I'll end up with a 70s style neck and a spare 50s neck and we all know how that'll end...
  14. I saw this advertised and had my head turned by the covers. I've never had a P bass with covers still on there. It has a '51 style neck on a later style body. Hopefully it goes without saying that this is no more than a P bas shaped object and no more. Would there ever have been a bass with this combo of neck and body ? The first thing I'll do is get rid of the logo as that's not honest. I may consider another neck with more appropriate headstock size, to suit the body and make it a Fecker Pretender.
  15. Looks like I have a deal locally for a an Indonesian PJ which isn't quite what I had in mind, but it's low commitment and should keep me on the right site of the steering committee who already knows that there are 4 basses hanging on the wall, so...
  16. Is there something I'm not understanding regarding the price of this one compared to new ? (Whilst I'm on, I experimented with my Jaydee today in passive mode. On the neck pickup, it really does do that sound quite well. I guess I'd still like the simplicity of a P bass though.)
  17. Can't comment of G&L but the Lakland 55-01 I've been using is very nice. i don't have the bar set very high here in terms of cost. I already have some really nicer basses so don't want to take the mickey.
  18. It's a very long time since I had a P bass and now that I'm getting older, the yearning for a simple old fashioned traditional P bass is getting stronger. Has anyone tried one of these ? http://www.basscentre.com/bass-collection-detroit-bass/bass-collection-detroit-bass-solar-flare.html There are worse choices of bass to have a hankering for, there isn't exactly a shortage. Another question. Sunburst or Fiesta Red ?
  19. Richard, I'd be delighted to be proven wrong too. My understanding is that VAT might be an element ? I'd looked into buying from Thomann and they no longer charge VAT for goods over £135, as per the new rules, and that's chargeable here. All as I understand it.
  20. Mike, I've been looking into this for other items too. It's f**in' b*ll**ks (P.S. These really are great instruments. :-( )
  21. I have a 1987 Roadie 2 Active. Neck dive isn't an issue with mine. Weight is 4.4kg
