Much like @EssexBuccaneer last week, I had some good Southend based gig news last night.

Last week, the Cow & Telescope, one of the best cover band venues in the area, who we played for the first time last month, asked if we were available on 23 December **EDIT: due to another band having to cancel**. Unfortunately, we were already booked at a sports bar elsewhere so did the right thing and turned them down to honour our commitment.

Yesterday, apparently some "top card" boxing matches were announced for 23 December. Being a sports bar, they realise their usual punters would be mightily upset if they didn't show the boxing and had a band playing instead. So they have postponed our booking until next year.

We enquired whether the other option was still available, and it's now ours :D What a stroke of luck. It's all fallen into place in our favour without upsetting anyone.

A coveted spot at one of the best music pubs in Southend on a Saturday evening, two days before Christmas. It's going to be a belter!

That's one of our regular gigs and probably one of our faves. Lovely crowd there - you know you've cracked them when they get the Wombles out of the bag and start waving them at you. Have a good one!

  2. We (Yellowhouse) are at The Broomhall Hutt in Sunningdale on Saturday night. Due to having a badly broken singist we have had to borrow one for the evening and I'm really looking forward to it. She's got a few more booked with us over the next couple of months too. Here's her regular band....

I'm not getting too excited - between @lowregisterhead 's and others comments, the fit and finish can be,  um..variable (the one on GG's website has dodgy pot holes ! - 50-50 chance I guess !), and I'm not throwing 1200 quid at a bass with 'Chibson' finishing.

You have better eyesight than me to spot that on there! Good luck and hope you like it

I'm hopefully going to be trying out an EHB1500 in the next week or so (if the retailer can track down the two they claim to have in stock 🙄 ), so a bit late, but thanks for the detailed review...all things for me to look out for.

I spoke to Guitar Guitar about exactly that bass last week. Apparently there are 2 in group stock at the Ibanez distributor in the UK. They wanted a 10% deposit to order one in for me to try it.....It's better to buy it online, try it at home and use distance selling regs if it isn't for you

I would love the bass but need to sell a few first! Any interest from you for a

    status Shark

    zoot performer

but mostly i would suggest you keep it. It looks amazing!

I've already bought its replacement I'm afraid so trades are out of the window unless it's an Ibanez EHB of some description. I need to get some cash back in the toy fund ideally. And I must admit now I know more about its history I'm inclined to keep it until prices recover to what I think it's worth. Maybe I'll try and sell my Mesa BB750 amp instead ...

Necks can be specced when ordering new from a selection, not quite custom shop level of customisation, but still, they cover the main areas, a J like, a P like and a middle kinda one.  Second hand, I guess you'd have to wait for the right one to come along!

I had the J one and probably needed the middle one....

  8. I prefer them too. Don't know why but I've just ended up with my main gigging basses being HH ones.

Of the mainstream ones available I can recommend the Cort A4 Plus. It's incredible vfm and easy to pick up used. A brilliant neck and great build quality with decent components. I've had some boutique stuff and this is easily up there with them.

And if you like knob twiddling try a Warwick Corvette or Streamer $$. The switches add about a squillion tone options to the pickups.

I too had a G&L L2000 USA and actually loved the sound in the band mix but couldn't get on with the neck on it. If it had a different neck I would probably still have it.

Ah right, I remember seeing some of the progress on it, including the final work, looked great in person.

I just looked on the 81 Guitar Works site - yep, its in the image gallery. Looks like it had a new truss rod and refret as well. I wasn't aware of that. Bonus!
