My old DJ5. A really cracking example, made even better with the mods. GLWTS.

Any idea of its weight?
Fair question. A very svelte 3.6kg on my digital bathroom scales.

NOW SOLD.
Up for sale is my 55-02, bought on here not long ago, but as it hasn't quite managed to unseat my Dingwall in my affections (although it came close), it's up for grabs again.
I've owned a few of these over the years, and this is a particularly nice one. The previous owner (who bought it new in 2017) had a vintage tint lacquer applied to the neck professionally, which looks particularly nice with the tobacco sunburst body. The finish on the neck is a very light satin, so not at all sticky or slippery. At 3.7kg, this also has to be the lightest 55-02 I've ever played, but it still balances really well on a strap, with no neck dive. It's in genuinely excellent condition too - the only mark I can find is a tiny dink on the tip of the headstock, shown in the pictures. It plays beautifully, doing the usual P-J-MM thing with ease, as well as having Lakland's legendary B string.
Collection preferred (I'm near junction 10 of the M25 in Surrey) but I can ship at the buyer's cost. Sorry, no trades please.

It's 35" scale, 19mm spacing at the bridge, with a phenolic fingerboard, fitted with Bartolini pickups, and a Mike Pope Flexcore 4-band preamp. Despite the longer scale length, the bass weighs in at only 3.6kg, feels and is very compact, and fits in a 6-string guitar case. I've only gigged it a handful of times, and as such is in pristine condition, apart from one small scratch on the back of the body that I've tried to show in the photographs. Also below is a link to a short YouTube video I made when I first got it. (Please note that despite what I said in the video, the body is moulded around a wooden core, so there is some wood in it! :-D) With these specs and the dreaded Br*x*t import duties you wouldn't get much change out of £3.5k if you ordered one now.
Comes with the hard case pictured. Collection is preferred (near Woking in Surrey, junction 10 of the M25) but I'm happy to ship at the buyer's cost.
NOW SOLD.

S'ok but its not what I associate him with. Wonder if she will ever sell the Wals. Iconic basses in his hands.
Yes, even if she ever did sell them, they couldn't sound the same in anyone else's. I still can't get my head around the fact he's been gone 12 years already.

A nice enough looking bass, used on the Rain Tree Crow album in 1991, not his Wal though. Whatever happened to it? Anyone know?
Private bids, starting at 7K.

I keep coming back to this. My first Stingray was slab bodied, and I ended up getting a 'belly-cut' put in it when I had it refinished, so probably not the bass for me, but it ticks a lot of boxes. I really can't understand why it's still here.

I had one of these when they were first released, before I blundered into the twilight word of fivers and couldn't find my way out again. Cracking basses, and that maple board looks lovely. GLWTS.

...and it says he's sold 238 of them... at £9 each!

Blimey. This takes me back to my first Stingray, picked up for £250 second hand in 1981.
How much does Old Smoothie weigh?

You might want to give the EBS Reidmar 502 a look - I use one with 2 x EBS 210s, it has power to spare, great clarity and really flexible EQ, and weighs only 3.3kg. It runs down to a 2 ohm load as well, and Andertons do them for just under £450.

Looks not bad condition, but for that money, I'd expect it to be pristine personally. I had the fretless version around 79/80 (à la Sting and Colin Moulding) and it was lovely and so well made, but did weigh an absolute ton!

Met up with Steve in the Midlands to take an immaculate Lakland 55-02 off his hands. I got really badly delayed by diversions and traffic jams en route, but he waited patiently for more than an hour and a half for me to get there!
A great guy to deal with, buy/sell with complete confidence. Thanks Steve!

For sale is a pristine Dingwall Afterburner 1, bought on here only recently, that I fully expected to keep. Unfortunately an unexpected expense has cropped up, so sadly it has to go.
It's not only a rarity, but a particularly nice example, being light, resonant and beautifully balanced. There isn't a mark on it, so you can save yourself a good wedge on the new price, as well as a long wait if you were to order a new one, which is currently in the order of about 18 months I believe.
Specs:
Alder body in a lustrous candy apple red
5-piece maple neck
Maple 24-fret fingerboard, 34”-37” scale
3x FD3 Neodymium pickups
4-position pickup selector
Volume push/pull for active/passive
3-band Glockenklang EQ (treble is passive tone when EQ bypassed)
Dingwall bridge and Hipshot Ultralite tuners
Dingwall/Music Area Pro gigbag and Accessory bag
Weight: 3.7kg
Sorry, no trades please.

Where was everyone when i was selling my 5502 deluxe, same weight same colour a few months ago..Ended up selling it for 650 to Bass bros... Unbelievable
That's a severe bummer. 🙁 These are such great all-round basses - a P, a Jazz and a Stingray all rolled into one!

Ah, Essex Recording Studios. Love them.
A couple of weeks ago, the family of a a dear, departed friend put his guitars through auction. Essex paid about £6,500 for this one, and they're trying to flip it for a canny mark-up:
And of course, they're fully entitled to do this. Good luck to 'em. Kind-of.
The description says "Your purchase helps musicians and supports our studio!" The second part of that statement could certainly be said to be true I suppose, although their definition of support may differ. Who knows, if it actually sells for what they're asking, they could use some of the profits to help a musician, by donating it to the family of the late previous owner, for example.

Add on insurance and import duties and you’re looking at about £10,500. Last decent one of these I saw was £12,500 so still a profit margin there for a vintage dealer.Still an awful lot of spondulicks to blow on a bass sight unseen. As far as I’m aware, ‘the neck feels like an old friend and plays like butter’ doesn’t constitute a legally binding guarantee.
If I picked up a bass that felt like it had a soft, greasy, dairy-based neck, the first thing I would do is check if someone had dropped a tab of acid in my tea.

Bought Mat's lovely Dingwall AB1. Took it out on a gig the same night and it was stellar, lots of compliments from band and punters alike. Mat was a pleasure to deal with - very prompt replies to PMs, and an all round nice chap when I went over to pick the bass up. Buy/sell with confidence. Thanks Mat!

I would have expected free delivery for the price they are asking🤭
Quite. I'm guessing the £35 delivery charge won't include insurance!

Alnico or Ceramic pickup?
I'm pretty sure it'll be ceramic. They changed to Alnico around 2008 I believe.

Why is this still here?
I'm guessing the finish may not be to everyone's taste, but it's a cracking bass, and seeing as a new one is over 2K now, this is also a bargain! GLWTS.

EBS HD350 with case £395 - *SOLD*
in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Posted · Edited by lowregisterhead
SOLD. Blimey, that was quick!
For sale is my HD350, sadly surplus to requirements after moving to a EBS Reidmar . Excellent condition, complete with a Gator sleeve case. Famously warm and sparkly EBS tones, but you can dial in virtually any sound with the really versatile EQ, drive control and excellent on-board compressor. Compact, quite light, and very loud. Handles loads all the way down to 2 ohms.
Collection preferred (near junction 10 of the M25) but I can ship it in the UK for an extra £30.
