1. Two completely separate bass jobs going....... Job One - with Medicine for the Meek - myspace http://www.myspace.com/medicineforthemeek Job Two - with Roseville Grand - myspace http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=37739715 I can heartily recommend them both, but hey what do I know! You listen, you decide and contact either/both through their myspace, not via me. Just do it, you know it makes sense SR
2.
The Blues Bar (Ain't Nothin' But...) makes the Mau Mau look like a football field!
Blues Bar Harrogate?? SR
3.
damn, sometimes i wish i still lived in manchester how old is the cab btw?
I've had it since Christmas, it's hardly ever been used. I guess no older than 18 months.
4. Thanks for all the advice guys, I guess I just need to get stuck in.
5. Being an ol' trad. analogue fart I've realised I've actually got the gear to try my hand at this digital recording lark. I've got Garageband free on my laptop and Cubase LE bundled with my mixer. Which would you use? I did play around with Cubase in the old midi / atari days but I suspect those grey cells have been wiped. Any advice appreciated. SR
6. MAG deep type vgc 8ohms Acquired recently on this board and only used once at a rehearsal, now band folded and it's just taking up space. Selling for £100 will deliver locally or meet part way if required. I'm in Thirsk (20 miles north of York) SR

9. Now then, I have a couple of 30"ers and employ and can recommend D'darrio Chromes (as always), but I'm not sure if they would suit a beatle bass bridge. Keep them flat. SR
10. Reight then, I'm on. Trad. boring gear available if required, no exotic timbers, definitely no more than 4 strings each. Basses- '83 P, SG reissue, Fender BG29, Mazetti 30" P type. Boxes - ABM 300/15, SWR WM12 Bits - various I'll sithee SR
11. I'm interested, not so far away in this northern outpost. Nice one, SR
12. I've gone even further down the road of thud. For few years I've used a set of Trubass on my Fender BG29, for the last couple I've experimented with various amounts of sponge shoved under the strings. No zing, no sustain - whatsoever. mind she does need to be cranked up with the aid a feedback buster in the hole. With the Workingman's 12, horn in, it sounds sweet. With the ABM 15, valves at 1 o'clock, it's all wrong but has a sort of a big compressed sub-frequency quality. SR
13. I picked up a mini P style, 30'' scale for just £50 on t'bay. It's my standard open mic nite bass and it's great fun. Even came with D'Addarios on although I've replaced with a set of Chromes but that's just me. The hardware seems to be generally cast rather than machined so we'll have to see how it goes in the long run. Highly recommended. SR
14.
You're right - there's quite a shortage around here. I don't know any one guy who's good at it all (and I used to work in the trade) but I know one chap who's good with general maintenance, electronics and all things custom and another who's excellent at frets/action etc but who charges much less and so doesn't do the thorough cleaning/maintenance stuff that you pay others for. I'm new to the forum so I will respect the system and not post names and numbers at this point, but if you want the acoustic bass sorting out then feel free to PM and I'll put you in touch with one or both of these chaps. A few years back there was a guy called Shane who did all of Sound Control's repairs who was excellent but I don't have his number and can't remember his surname to look him up!
Gents, Jim Fleeting is in Ripon, not so far, he did an excellent bone nut job for me a while ago and will tackle owt including new builds and best of all he's really a bass man who also does guitars rather than vice-versa. Here's a link www.guitarrepairman.co.uk Apologies if Jim's already been mentioned and I missed it. Cheers now, SR
15. How do boys, I moved off High Storrs Drive, February 14th last year, after 22 years and emigrated to Thirsk, North Yorks. Missing the Highcliffe!! All the best SR
