I've had 2 Carvins and they are great instruments , I also had this custom build fretless SB built through Bass Gear.
Not much love in the UK for them , maybe due to the cost of shipping/ taxes etc .

    That looks great!

Lovely stuff. I'm not a fan of active basses, but I tried several Xotic basses in Japan a few years ago and, besides being wonderful to play, the preamp had what I can only describe as an integral feel - it didn't change or sit on top of the passive tone, but rather expanded it. I'm still a passive guy, but I have a Tri-Logic II and a Tri-Logic III preamp pedals working their magic on my pedal boards.

Yeah, I recently got a Tri-Logic ll and it's great. My passive Jazz still sounds passive but the Tri-Logic makes it a bit bigger and the mid control is lovely.

I stopped using DRs a while ago as I got fed up with the amount of duff strings I was getting.
    Just sayin'...

I love 'em. They seem to be lasting forever. And as I stated in post, the G on the last set (D'Addarios I think) had the same problem.

  4. Been annoying me for a while now. G string on my otherwise gorgeous Fender CIJ Jazz Bass keeps going flat. Doesn't happen on the other three strings, can't be down to a duff string as it happened with last set as well. I always tune up to pitch, not down. Can the tuner be turned by the tension of the string? Tried tightening the screw on the back of the tuner but it's as tight as I can get it. I don't bend the G string or do any manic slapping. What gives?

  5. For asking for a pay rise....

For telling my best mate that the female singer who his girlfriend was babysitting for had been calling his girlfriend some fairly unpleasant names...

For breaking down on the way to a gig, despite actually making it to the soundcheck...

I think they are the only occasions.

  6. I don't know, maybe I'm just really easy to please, I use what could be classed as a fairly average amp (Promethean 2x10), at least in comparison to the likes of Aguilar or Glockenklang, it's Class D, doesn't have tricked out long excursion speakers, but I've never ever thought, "hmmmm... I think I need to invest in something better.." I'm quite often surprised at just how good it sounds. Granted, I don't do stadiums. But if I did then the amount of h**t (can't bring myself to say it!) it had or didn't have wouldn't make a jot of difference!

  7. I owned a Pentabuzz and it was absolutely gorgeous, a fabulous sounding bass. If money were no object, however, and I wasn't useless on fretless, an F Bass AC5 would be my instrument of choice.

  8. How are the Allparts Jazz necks? Would like a maple/maple pearl blocks/binding neck and apart from Warmoth Allparts are the only company I can find that does them. Had a Warmoth in the past and it was chunky and heavy. I have a plain Mighty Mite neck which cost buttons and pee's all over the Warmoth. I've heard the Allparts are quite chunky as well.
