Does anyone know if there is any difference between the BF Big Baby II and the FR800 other than the fact the FR800 has an amp built in, and if that's all it is, can you get a Big Baby II upgraded to an FR800?

I ask because I'm about to change my rig and get a Helix. I was wondering whether or not to keep my amp (Tech Soundsystems Black Cat) and get a Big Baby II or sell the amp as well and go for an FR800. It's all about equipment sharing gigs where I might be expected to bring my own amp but not cab(s) and portability...

I'd say keep the Black Cat and get a portable and efficient cab, something like, oh I don't know, a Genz Benz NX2-212T😉

You know what, having played with Helix more and more, in getting the best out of it by going straight out of 1/4" mono into the back of my EICH 1000 power amp in and then into the VK 2x10 cab.

I've set up each bass patch as dual path, so 1/4" has no cab model, but preamp only, and the XLR path set up with a cab so I can DI out of the Helix for FOH and the amp/cab are an onstage monitor

I'm surprised you're even considering another cab with the VK/Eich setup!

I've got a 4x10 Classicline that I bought of Stealth on here, which is a nice cab. Lovely retro look & he put nice big casters on it to make it an easy move.

Cheers but I'm only after Prolines, thanks.

Ooh! I bet you get into trouble for that!

I did see it but, if you don't mind me saying so, that carpet looks rather worn!

  5. Yes, could go for the neo I guess, I've heard it said that they do lack a bit when compared to the Prolines, however. Two 2x10s would be an idea as well to cut down on the weight but I think the chances of finding two would be slim.

  6. I thought my days of humping a big heavy 4x10 were behind me but I now find myself gasing for an EBS HD350/Proline 2000 410 rig. It's totally irrational as I'm perfectly happy with what I have and my current cab can be carried with one hand. I've always wanted to try one though as I do like the EBS tone but the weight of that cab was always the deal breaker. Also, I know their cabs don't go super low and am slightly concerned how one would work with my 5 string. Am I quite mad?

Found myself enjoying this despite all the slightly formula-ridden widdlery going on.

Big bad bassopotamus he may be, but the guy IS musical, unlike 99% of the ass-showing widdlers.
Bet he is interesting on guitar, too.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't put him in the "widdler" category. Like you say, he's too musical for that. It's basically bebop played on bass. And yes, he is a great guitarist as well, I think it's actually his first instrument, which makes me want to sell up even more!
