  1. It worries me that some folk are actually making light of the fact that they have gained substantial bodyweight over the last twelve months - surely this is asking for future problems ? (diabetes / cholesterol / heart attack / etc etc ) . Being bored ain't a good reason to live on pizza and crisps .............. 😎
  2. The UK has being trying to do this forever, but London is still the main visitor destination, as far as I'm aware. 😎
  3. Taunton isn't owned by the Jockey Club. so the only reason to suspend vaccination today was Shortage of vaccine or sheer greed Take your pick - I know which one I'd go with 😎
  4. Soz, badly put - I wasn't implying 'against' the virus, merely that we have gathered a lot of scientists all declaring that everything the 'other' mob says/ does is wrong / misguided / ineffective / dangerous / I realise this stuff goes on all the time in the scientific community, but the common good is not best served by having the debates on the front pages on a daily basis (imo / ymmv) 😎
  5. (IMO) The key factor in ANY campaign is to keep the public ( i.e. us ) on side - I'm not sure that any good is actually achieved by all these public slanging matches. 😎
  6. Back in the days of the polio epidemic, the Ministry of Health just vaccinated everybody - test & trace is a new toy. β€˜A matter of commonsense’: the Coventry poliomyelitis epidemic 1957 and the British public I stumbled across this, which is a very good (& somewhat long) history of the polio epidemic in the 50's It takes a bit of reading, but there are chilling similarities in the way that the authorities treated the situation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5652641/ 😎
  7. Freshers Week in most universities means two things - sex and booze (& lots of both) It's no wonder we get spikes (& std / gon / syph / preg / hiv / just an observation ........ 😎
  8. Which is an interesting thought - if those deposits were paid to that year's company, does another company legally have to fund them? 😎
  9. .. Breathe ............. and quote : Glastonbury organisers Michael and Emily Eavis fear they could be in serious financial danger if the festival was cancelled again due to coronavirus. Speaking exclusively to the Guardian to mark the festival’s 50th anniversary, Michael said: β€œWe have to run next year, otherwise we would seriously go bankrupt … It has to happen for us, we have to carry on. Otherwise it will be curtains. I don’t think we could wait another year.” I had a quick look at Glasto's accounts earlier ( it's online ) and they seem to have around 9mil float -= even my ex would have problems getting through that doing not a lot ........... 😎
  10. Probably worth pointing out that each festival is a new & separate limited company ; nothing wrong with that, it makes financial sense, but the 'B' word would only apply to that (or those) particular company(s) - I think someone is laying it on a bit thick. 😎
  11. One possible upside is that UK customers will be far more likely to buy within the UK ? 😎
  12. Sad news, but I'm having problems with the 'bankruptcy' bit - this is a large working farm aside from the festival and as such surely would carry on as normal (as much as can be achieved at the moment ) ? 😎
  13. Many years ago, I worked for a major fruit machine manufacturer. It was decided to send a machine to a customer on BR since they were next door to a mainline station. The machine was heavily packaged (on a wooden base as well I recall) and arrived completely smashed. The next attempt (!) was to send the machine completely unwrapped, with just a consignment note on the playglass - it arrived intact & unmarked ............. 😎
  14. Some VERY good news at last - live music back by Spring 2023? - Suggestion for new thread title .................. 😎
  15. That's a non-tecnical term for 'a race to the bottom'? 😎
  16. Purists look away now - Sound system set (as used, by me, for years) Garrard 401 turntable (with felt pad brake removed) Felt slip mats for instant start of disc on already revolving 401 Goldring Lenco arm with strung thrust weight removed and rear of arm fixed with epoxy Cartridge - Shure N44c (juke box jobby)
  17. Which is why analogue tape masters were usually recorded at 15ips and never below 7.5ips, the 'usual' domestic speed of 3 3/4 ips was regarded as pretty unusable by pro studio setups & usually reserved for sample tapes for clients. 😎
  18. Yates - that's a sort of downmarket Spoons, right? 😎
  19. I have 'customers' who do this with clothes - come in, see what it looks like on and then gypsy's kiss off and buy it online. To the extent now that if anyone phones & asks if we've got so & so, we just say no.............. 😎
  20. Yup, saw this about ten min ago, was going to post it....... ......the UK world is going to be stuffed with these sort of problems, all of which will get sorted out - eventually (whether or not that happens in my lifetime is another matter) 😎
