1. Welcome to Basschat - I too am currently in Durham and I know a couple of others are on here too.
2. Looks like he is enjoying himself and thats what its all about..... Good lad
3. Correct Japan hence why I submitted the question- It is not as easy a dilemma as it sounds unless you just want a little practice amp with little tone and even less power. Normally I would not entertain a multi purpose piece of equipment, but I am moving around and already have the Drums and Bass in tow. I actually spoke to a shop after putting the topic up and they suggested I try an Alto Truesonic TS115A Active PA Speaker - mainly due to the Drum/Bass usage combo, it unfortunately does not seem to have a headphone socket but I can get around this with my multi effects pedal. - I am going to give it a go and it should be here tomorrow. We will see
4. Good day All I am in need of some suggestions for a Bass Amp that needs to meet some specific requirements Two inputs - This will be used for teaching (So two Basses) and also for plugging in electronic Drums and a Bass at the same time Compact and lightweight – I will need to be able to move it around from studio to car/house upstairs – Possibly gigs wattage depending Headphone socket for silent practice Effects would be nice but I am not too worried about bells and whistles Aux input – NOT A DEAL BREAKER It can be just a head or a combo Wattage is not massively important but over 100w up to about 500w Under £500 do not mind second hand at all All the above have to be included in the Amp expect possibly the Aux and effects. I am not particularly stuck on the price but am pretty certain I can get something for this. I have had a Genz Benz some time back but only one Input if I remember rightly and would like to try something else. Suggestions??

9. Did I put it on upside down again?? I never was very good with these Bass things
10. I do not normally do self recording stuff or Bass cover things for the internet but well I felt I should give you an idea of how the Bass sounds. this is just running through a couple of my own Bass lines with the tone I normally choose on the Bass (although there are plenty more) Its just via the laptop and into my Mini Studio speakers so hopefully its sounds ok. 14. This bass enjoys a stunning high grade AAAAA (5A) Flame Maple top over a very compact lightweight African Mahogany body which is further enhanced by a high gloss finish. The neck is comfortable and extremely fast with easy access to all notes across the neck. The B string is full, clear and balanced with the other strings and playable in all positions up and down the Morado fingerboard. This bass features the new John East (UK) / Pete Skjold (USA) custom three band pre-amp with active blend (pan) for the pickups. This bass preamp allows you to determine the frequencies at which the treble, middle and bass operate allowing to find the sweet spots that suit your playing techniques and preferred tones!! The bass for is totally "as new condition" with only light playing and minimal fret wear as described above. And comes with a Skjold Padded Bag and lifetime warranty from Pete Skjold. If you are looking for the ultimate 5 string bass, with fantastic sounds and playability, look no further. It's got everything from Jazz/Precision sounds to ultra modern Marcus style slap sounds with tons of clear, headroom. 16.
Thats my confusion am I transposing the song or simple making the strings looser. In normal circumstances my ears would be the guide but in this case it was a casual jam where I just tried to play what I heard . They then offered me the gig and I have 30 covers to learn in the next 4 weeks. My problem is do I learn them in the key they're played on the records or do I learn them a semi tone lower. One of my (many ) weaknesses is that I can learn songs quickly but once they're learnt I find it hard to amend then in my mind .
OK... Ask the guitarist if you can pop over and run through a couple of numbers with him to speed things up for the next rehearsal and you will then get the gist of it.. It shows eagerness and will also put you mind at rest with the tuning issue. I frequently have to learn songs on the fly and quick learning is always viewed as an asset not a weakness at all, as well as that two bands will play the same song in different keys so amending (which is really just like transposing) is also something worth practicing too!! Best of luck with it.
17. There may be some confusion here - If you and the guitarist ALL tune half a step down (which is probably for the singers range) but they are playing say a G 'look to see where they are barring the chord, I bet it is at the 3rd fret. as normal Most bands when they de-tune do not change the chord position, so for you every note will still be played at the original position (eg; 3rd fret E string is G - 5th fret A string D so on) to be honest you should have heard if its wrong compared to what the guitarist is playing as half a step difference sounds horrible especially if for the whole song :-) but I would bet they are keeping the same positions in this case.
18. I like both watching and being watched by other Bassists - I am competant enough in my own abilities to not feel fazed and as a teacher interested enough in other Bassists style of playing. I am wise enough to know you never stop learning however good you are and no matter what someone's level they may have something to offer to reflect on. We were after all all beginners ourselves once. I am also very much aware that I am (as are most Bassists) a much more capable Bassist than may be observed when gigging as i realise I am part of a band and tend to play what the song needs. I recently played a gig and spoke to another Bassist who I then found out is also on this site, I even let him have a look over and play on my Bass then he returned the favour when I went to watch his band a week or so later. For some reason I also think I am more vocal in regard to the Bands Drummers skills than Bassists.
19. I have one 5 Skjold and because its so damb nice I do play it but prefer the 4's still. I got on with so few 5's that I was quite shocked when the Skjold came on the scene - With the 5 I tend to play from the 5th fret onwards to give me more range from the E - I do pop into the first 4 if I am up that way for a while. However I have recently also started tuning E - C and find it much more useful. I've considered another 5 because well why not,?it gives you the extra range should you want it and the other 4 are still there as well. (saying that I'll always have a 4 for slapping)
20. My Wood and Tronics - Complete with my usual 12th fret logo
