1. Thanks for everyone's input into my amp choices. I'm the proud owner of an RM 500 Evo ii.
2. I'm not playing any gigs yet, not even playing with anyone else, I'm anticipating getting involved soon so it's academic really. I'm checking out the RM tonight. If they're so close then saving 5 hours of driving for an extra few quid seems like a no brainer.
3. I was all set on an ABM 500 Evo iii, but an RM 500 has turned up, literally up my road, for a tiny amount more when fuel is added. So, I've read that the RM can do an ABM impersonation with some accuracy. What would do? The ABM is a 2.5 hour drive each way.
4. That looks great. There is a neo combo available not far from me. It's just about within budget, but it would have to do duty on its own. How does it go by itself?
5. Potential ABM owner here. I'm trying to replace a Mark Bass Little Mark 250 and an Eden 12 (4 ohm). I've read this entire thread and been seduced by all the tales of tones and customer service! I have a very strict budget, it has to be paid for by the sales of my current gear. A couple of options present. Some Evo ii and iii combos are definitely within budget. Also an Evo iii head and a very cheap ABM 212 (4 ohm) or an 8 ohm 115 plus pick up a second cab later. The weights don't really bother me. Any thoughts on which route is 'better'? Thanks.
6. I'm currently considering the same, but with an older cab (for budget reasons) that I'll upgrade as and when. It seems to be a winner!
7. Purple Rain and INXS's The Swing we're still on high rotation on my tape deck. I wore those 12th birthday presents out eventually, but I think they were still listenable in 1985.
8. Ok, I'll have a play and check out your suggestions. Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it. I feel like if I can sort this out the GT 1B will do all I need it to.
9. Right. So I've assigned an octave down, no problems. But I can't alter how much octave vs dry signal - it seems it's just a default blend or off. I've been trying to add a flange to a clean patch. I didn't like the fx1 flange sound I tried adding the fx2 sound -which I preferred - but it wouldn't assign to ctrl, it just added to the overall patch. I hope that makes sense
10. Thanks Noir. I can assign them, but I then can't find a way to change the parameters. And sometimes the effect won't assign to CTRL1, it just turns it on for the whole patch. It's got me thinking about upgrading, which I don't want to do as it's expensive.
11. Hi all, I'm trying to get my head around assigning CTRL1 to different functions and I'm managing. Sometimes! I'm using the Tone Studio software and I can assign different effects to CTRL1 without too much grief. The problem I'm having is then being able to adjust parameters per effect - I can't seem to be able to do it. I've managed to adjust some parameters on the unit itself, again, sometimes. Once, trying to add a flange to a clean preamp and comp patch, I could assign fx1 flange but I couldn't get a decent sound. I then manually added fx2 flange, which sounded much better, but it wouldn't assign to CTRL1, it only stayed on the clean sound of the patch (I hope that makes sense!) Basically, I should be easily able to switch particular effects on and off with CTRL1, as well as control parameters while doing this, but it seems really hit and miss. Are there any GT 1B users out there that can shed any light on where I'm going wrong? It's starting to really cheese me off!
12. Maybe less of the under rated, just cheap, but I had a Roland DB500 that I rated. 160 watts, 12 inch combo had 2 programmable channels that were handy for 2 basses and it sounded great on double. Got it for £150 delivered to my house!
13. I was about to buy a cheap synth pedal until I watched this and managed to get 4 reasonable patches on my Gt1b.
14. Hi, I thought I had his details but can't find them anywhere. I think I found them by furiously googling him somehow. Good luck!
15.
Any cheap pick up recommendations?
Hi, How about http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=103749? I use one and it's not bad.
16.
Pick up & Strings still available.
PM'd re strings.
17. My one speaker transistor combo is also really heavy!
18. I'd find a cab that I wanted to use with the head and use it as an extension speaker for the combo. Then, when you can afford it, get the head and you're away.
19. I used Laurence Dixon around clapham somewhere. I don't have his details to hand but I'll dig them out later. He set up my zeller bass nicely, was reasonably priced and a lovely bloke.
20. What about the Hartke 2x10 in the fs section here?
21.
Hey everyone, I am soon to upgrade my setup but I need some assistance! Basically I need a new amp, we are playing bigger gigs now and my current one just won't go loud enough! I currently run an old Trace Elliot head at 130 watts into a Ashdown ABM 1x15 cab, it sounds lovely and I sort of want the same tone as im currently getting, but the old trace elliots are hard to find.... Anyway I have come up with a list of amps I think look good, but I have no idea of what they are like in comparison to the trace! Looking to spend around the £500 mark, here's the list: Eden Nemesis EN400 Ampeg B2RE Orange bass Terror Peavey tour 450 Ashdown ABM500 EVO3 I head good things about the peavey and the orange, but the others are almost a mystery! I would go for a new trace elliot but they are so very expensive! Hoping someone can push me in the right direction? Cheers!
If you're willing to fo second hand, you should be able to find trace gear around
22. I got my Roland DB500 for £150 and it's a great bit of kit. 150 (loud) watts, very compact and sounds great. I've used it in loads of situations including a 1000 seat hall with no backup. Only problem is finding one but they do crop up on here.
23. If it's any help, I loved the sound from my Warwick ProFet 3.2 (their lowest priced head)!
