Hi folks, I hope this isn't an entirely stupid question but here goes.
I currently run an Ashdown MAG 300 head through a matching 410 cab. The head is rated 300W RMS, 500W Peak with a minimum load of 4 Ohms. The Cab is rated 450W at 8 Ohms. This works well. My problem is that the cab is the weight of a small moon and, being rather disabled, it's not the easiest thing to lug around. I am therefore considering a cheap and light 210 cab. Now here is the dumb question: Can I add a cab rated for less wattage, say 150W, without too great a risk of blowing it up? Should I go for 8 Ohms or 4? Is there some sort of power reducer / attenuator that would prevent an overload? Is this just a really bad idea?
Thanks for any advice received, I am useless at this sort of technical stuff.
Cheers, Steve

Had our EP launch in Belfast last night. Absolute mayhem as usual. Fantastic fun but sadly my amp decided enough was enough and died on me. Very sad.

Saw The Steve Ignarant band playing Crass, supported by Paranoid Visions and the Hoakers. Absolutely incredible night.

Is Charlie stopping gigging? Or is it just non-UK gigs they’re stopping?
Not 100% sure tbh. I know they definitely won’t be back to Ireland.

UK Subs tomorrow night. Their last ever visit to my wee country before Uncle Charlie hangs up his creepers. Can’t wait!

Fair enough. It was plenty loud in the practice studio (and we're a punk band, we play loud), but I suppose it might struggle in a gig situation without PA support.

Plugged into one of these tonight at our practice studio. I must say, it was outstanding! Clear, punchy, full, frankly everything you could want in a combo. Thoroughly recommend trying one if you get a chance.

For me, an audio interface into a DAW (I use Reaper personally but any DAW will do). Not only does this give you a silent practice tool, it also means you can quickly get ideas recorded before you forget them.

True. Think the OP was referring to a Musicman soap bar humbucker, or at least that was the conclusion I drew.
Yes, that was my thought.

Bit pricey and overkill for what I need.
I have a Squier P with EMG Geezer in it. Have an Ibanez PJ for versatility (cheap and cheerful). I just thought I’d maybe give the old Westone a new lease of life. On the cheap lol!

I have an old Westone Concorde with a p pickup in it. I was just wondering if it was practical to ditch the existing pup and stick a hummer in instead? Would you put it in the same place? Back towards the bridge? No Idea if this will happen, just curious at this point.

Yes, I see they're out of stock in Thomann again.

Just back from the first full band practice with the new PUP. Fantastic! The bass was massive, meaty and clear. Pure trouser-flapping goodness 😎

We lost a wonderful voice two days ago. Mark Lanegan, RIP.

Cab Power Handling
in Amps and Cabs

Thanks for the advice. I have been looking at the used market but here in Northern Ireland there isn’t a great deal about. Loads of 410, very few 210. Probably safer to stick with the higher power rated cabs, I will keep looking!
