  1. We have a new drummer who doesn't drive. We are just about to start gigging, recording etc.  I think the novelty will wear quite thin on the other members who will have to ferry him around.

I know this personal experience.  I used to have to pick up the guitarist (20 years ago when we trying to get signed) and all his gear.  He always managed to scrape enough money together for booze and drugs but never for petrol.

What ever works for you! If that's what you have to do then fair enough.

I'm sorry if I touched a nerve.  I didn't want to cause offence just highlight a single word you used.

As far as I am aware marriage is not a job, they are not the employer and you are not the employee.  You are the king and you wife is the queen, and your children are the prince and princesses of your castle.

I love my wife and kids to pieces, respect them and only want the best for them. I want them to grow and realise their full potential, to become who they were truly meant to be (my eldest child, 26, is transgender) and I am fully supportive of that decision too.  Be who you are, not who others expect you to be.

is that supposed to mean something - or we still in the 60's and I should beat her until she does????

    FFS!

Absolutely. (This was a joke in case anyway can't work it out)

My point was that of course you need to be respectful, tolerant and willing to compromise in a healthy relationship, however, that also means that they do too.

Doing things that they other person may not love but you do once in a while is good for your soul, and a better husband/dad such as going out with your friends and having one time too many beers, etc.

My wife is smart enough to allow me to whatever I want (within reason) knowing that as I am naturally lazy, I probably won't.  However, if she told told me NOT to do something, she knows I am strong willed and stupid enough to do it even if it means cutting my nose off.

  4. What's with all the 'flipping' anti swearing auto correct software on the new site?

I wrote F word and it came out as flip, D*ck became Richard.  Not sure if I think this is fun or just policing of grown adults where none is necessary. We are not snowflakes as far as I'm concerned.

Reminds of the Harry Enfield 'Good Fellas' sketch.  Worth a Google .

Might be fun to see how many words have been adapted.

  5. Just in case some of you might think 'I'm being the Richard', I actually have a gramma pad, play at low, radio level volume, etc it was just that this time I didn't, it was a little louder (testing out some pedals, etc).  It was Monday morning at about 10 and I genuinely thought she was at work.

I think as bass players we are used to playing the peacemaker in bands.  Not only do we have to breach the gap musically between rhythm and melody with the drums and guitar, but have to deal with their personalities, adhd psychopaths and control freaks.  Sometimes your feet hurt from walking on eggshells and you just need to let people know that you don't have the words 'Welcome' tattooed on your back.

  6. Some great advice here guys.

Yes, she was going through a divorce at the time and therefore as reasonable people we felt sympathy for her situation.  Even though her attitude and behaviour was more than should have been tolerated.

just to fill in the blanks, I don't usually practise with an amp.  Usually it is unplugged. Very occasionally I need to play through it to test out new pedals, etc.

  7. To be honest I didn't even know she was at home.  I have tried to be reasonable.  When she first moved in she would be texting my wife about one small thing or another to the point off borderline harassment (we are actually good people/neighbours)  She has calmed down a lot recently but there comes a point where everyman (or woman -LofB reference) wants/needs/has to take a stand and say 'enough is enough'.

She has knocked on the door at 7pm before, when I tried to get a quick 20 mins before the kids went to bed.  The complaint she had then was that she just got back from work, needed to relax, etc.

I thought 'well what the f*ck do you think I'm doing then!' :)

  8. Hi Fellow BC'ers,

Yesterday morning I was playing my bass at home at a reasonable volume with a little bit of vibration but not excessively loud.  Within about 5 minutes my next door neighbour 'politely' asks me what 'we' can do about the noise as she is working from home this week, etc.  This is not the first time she has done this.  She moved from a detached house to an end of terrace., so has probably never had to deal with minor noise spillage from neighbours walls.  She thinks she is better than everyone else (not sure why!)  She is very high maintanence, had/has mental health issues but we have never mentioned to her that her and her 18 yo son have screaming matches late at night in the room opposite where my 2 young boys sleep.  Personally think she has got a f'ing cheek and would love to tell her to FO but am trying to take the higher ground and maintain some sort of long term harmony.  Although I am now starting to feel like a prisoner in my own home.

I have a gramma pad to reduce vibration. Also, I don't always want to play unplugged or via a headphone.

Wondered what your thoughts, recommendations and personal experiences of this are?

  9. This is a massive shame for both parties. Neither one will come out of it well.

She will look like a plagiarist and them as money grabbing hypocrites.

They should have done what Sam Smith and Tom Petty did and agreed a fair split in secret.  I believe she offered them 40% but they wanted 100%.  The lawyers are just being lawyers, trying to justify their super expensive hourly rate but ruining the bands reputation in the process unfortunately.  Classic case of 'they know the price of everything but the value of nothing'.

Shame because I met Radiohead back in 97 when we rehearsing at the same studio (Terminal). They seemed like really good guys. :(
