Pretty much every guitarist has their amp way too loud. I'm not sure it's for tone, I think it's for dominance as they believe they are the Silverback of the group. 

The problem is too much mid and treble are really piercing and very unpleasant. 

Forgive my ignorance but wouldn't the sound waves bounce back off the plexi and possibly create some kind of phasing issue?

Sorry, I meant he replied by whatsapp (text).  He always reads the messages but is always the last to respond hoping someone else will cancel the said thing so he doesn't get the blame.  Personally I think he probably feels it's all down to him but it's really 60/40 in the singers favour. He should have stepped up in the role of bandleader but has chosen the path of least resistance.

I think we are going to meet up to discuss this on Thursday.  Interestingly, still acknowledgement from the drummer.  Think he's either letting the singer do the mediation or too scared/putting his head in the sand?

I do find it interesting that the word 'professional' keeps coming up. I should have heard the alarm bells when almost 20 years ago my solicitor said to me that I should go in to band management. I eventually did.  It was a compliment but should have seen the other side of the coin that most musicians aren't. 

That is what I find most frustrating. If I agree to do something, I will. I expect others to do the same.  However, for the majority of other people it's just lip service. 

Yes. I mentioned to D'addario last week that my string broke at a gig and they sent me a new set within 48 hrs. Do it.

I have gone with my gut and the majority here and sent out a message on our whattsapp to say that I am not happy with our current situation and we need to meet up to talk rather than say nothing and walk away.  

I have had some responses from the singer who seems worried but nothing yet from the drummer yet.

I wonder how many of you fellow BC'ers find yourself in this predicament.

You are in a good band musically, you like most of the material but it's the little and some big things that drive you up the wall with the other members.  

Backstory:

The singer/guitarist and I formed this band as an offshoot of a previous band where the drummer left to join a classic heavy rock covers band, we are a funkyish blues band.  He was a great guy but a very basic drummer.  He was getting frustrated by not gigging and the slow progress of the singer/guitarist. 

We replaced him with a much better drummer but not as much fun as a person.  He also doesn't drive ?! And is not pro active with band stuff, doesn't make eye contact and is still making mistakes with endings, tempo, etc.  Has the ability but doesn't practice enough.  I also find him a little bit difficult to lock in with musically and as a person.

The singer/guitarist about 6 months ago decided that the band should change its name to the his name group as it would be better to sell it (we have a few really good original songs and it was my idea that we should do the covers band and record an album too of originals).  Wasn't to keen on this as he and I had been co-founders and now it seems like a power grab or at least far too soon.  His singing is ok but not great and his guitar playing is ok but not amazing enough to market yourself as the next Clapton, bonamassa, Gary Clarke jr.  Feel like he feels he's there but he's a long way off.  Not progressing wether that's arrogance, talent, lack of practice, fear or a combination.

He is always late to rehearsals (therefore so is the drummer), takes ages setting up, spends too much time talking, guitar amp far too loud, doesn't take suggestions well.  Too laid back but in a potentially passive aggressive way/I do what I want way.

I own the PA, video the gigs, book rehearsals, now booking gigs, etc and the others are doing very little work.  I also have a degree in Music Business (ACM), used to be a music manager and have loads of contacts.  Feel like my advice is falling on deaf ears.

We have recently started gigging but it's only about once a month.  It is only me that manages to bring a handful of people, the rest of the band make no effort (that's the venues job).

The singer/guitarist works for a music distribution company and the drummer works with marketing/social media.  

This band should have every chance of success but feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall.

What do you guys think I should do?  Generally want some useful advice

There was a great phrase that I read on here recently that when musicians play together they are having a musical conversation. Change/swap a musician and fundamentally the style of conversation will change.  Like having a friend that just wants to monopolise, talk loudlyand for you to only listen.

Intelligent people know how to conduct the flow of conversation.

This. Why do most guitarists think they are the only musician of worth in a band?

I have been as good as, if not better a musician than most (not all) guitarists I've played with. However, pretty much all of them see themselves as superior to everybody else.  No wonder most bands fail.  Even Richie Blackmore got kicked out of his own band for being a bell end. 

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Adam and all at D'addario. 

I did a gig last Thursday and my D string broke during the second song.  Thankfully I brought a spare bass (first time ever for both).

So a few days ago a conversation on here to place about broken strings.  So I thought I'd mention it to D'addario, who were part of that conversation just as some customer feedback.  

Adam came straight back to me and offered to send a new set as a goodwill gesture.

Brand new set of strings arrived less than 48 hours later. Top bloke, top company!

Everyone is quick to moan about bad service, how about we also name the good guys here too.  Your turn:

Listen to the song on repeat so you can hear the parts/sections when you are travelling to and from work and don't have your bass handy. This will strengthen your neural pathways to aid the learning/remembering process. Look at the written parts when you are listening. This will create an audio/visual brain connection.

Have you considered getting a second SC. That's what I did. Most of the time I take one cab for rehearsals/pub gigs but for the bigger gigs/wanting to show off I take two. Plus much easier to transport/carry than a 610. 

The 'problem' with Billy Sheehan is that he probably feels people expect him to sound exactly like Billy Sheehan all the time.  

IIRC I remember Marcus Miller saying that the sign of a great musician is to have their own signature sound.  Billy certainly has that.  Brand management to some degree I guess.

Once was a jam night where an acoustic singer/songwriter tuned his guitar by breath/chest rumble.  

Not sure if this is a thing or he'd just escaped from the local asylum!

I guess 50+ years of continuous playing will do that for you!
