Some questions for you: 1. What's your budget 2. Is the pre/DI you are after only intended to be used for bass or do you mean for running other signals through? 3. Is the toneport also acting as your audio interface?
Hey mate... 1. Probably about £150 2. Ideally bass, vox, guitars etc, but if i find a nice bass pre/DI i'd make do for now. 3. Yes, the main reason for having the UX2 is for audio interfacing, not modelling. Thanks for all the other suggestions people... J

Thanks for the input guys. Would be cool to hear some thoughts on some more Studio-esque gear though. Not a fan of the Sansamp stuff, and I don't have a DI on my Hartke head...kinda sucks I know.

Hello people, Well, I've just embarked on this whole studio recording at home lark. I've got my mac, Line6 Toneport UX2, Reason, and Garageband. I'm thinking i'd like to get myself a preamp with some valves in to warm up the signal before it gets to the UX2, if I could also use the preamp in my bass rig it'd be a huge bonus, just to add a bit of warmth is all. I've been looking about, and i'm torn between getting something like an Ampeg SVP-Pro bass pre, which is obviously very much for the bass, or something like a little Presonus TubePre/Art Tube MP. But I also thought about getting a good quality DI box, like a Reddi or Groove Tubes brick, or if I could find a second hand Manley DI box. I'm not exactly clued up on all this, so I'm not sure what would be better. What are peoples thoughts on this little fix? EDIT: I'm not just thinking about something for recording bass here...but vocals and guitar as well maybe. Thanks Jamie
the mesa will obviously need the AC power supply (iirc the one you bought includes this). Most effects power supplys are DC. So without doubt the rocket will really always need a dedicated power supply. The others will just need a bog standard boss type 9v. Depending how anal you are, you can pick them up for anything between £10 and £???. As long as its regulated and at least a good 1000ma, any will do.
Thanks mate...think i'm getting my head around all this now.

The 2 you're looking at are totally different beasts. With the Ampeg you've got a Valve in there, hence the lovely tone that you're talking about...it's probably a lot warmer than the other ones you've been thinking of. Personally, I'd be looking to get a valve in the D.I box if at all possible, simply because they offer such a nice warm tone. Otherwise, I'd check out Radial D.I boxes as they seem to be pretty mean!
Yes, provided it can supply the power needed. Find out what each pedal draws (probably given in mA), add 'em up, then find a PSU that'll supply a bit more (prob best to go at least +50%, cos I think I hear the dulcet tones of GAS). e.g. 100mA+250mA+50mA = 400mA so buy an adapter/PSU that can give at least 500mA. Similar idea to giving yourself headroom on an amp. Pete.
Ha...thanks mate, GAS indeed
You won't be able to run the bottle rocket off a power supply, it needs it's own, so that only leaves you with 3 pedals, unless you plan on buying a lot more. For that kind of use, I don't think the diago's worth it, it's quite expensive and provides far more power than you'll need. I'd check the current requirements for the pedals you want to run and get a single adapter and use a daisy chain
Thanks for that mate, and for everyone else's input. So would I just need a normal 9v adapter then use a bog standard daisy chain to whack the power onto the other pedals? Thanks Jamie

Hey everyone, I've decided I'm embarking along the long a treacherous road that leads to Pedalsville and well, I need me some energy to get there... So, what's the best way of powering all my pedals from one unit or power supply? I know Boss do something along these lines, and you can get daisy chain things...but I know pretty much nothing about all of this stuff, so what do you guys recommend? If it helps, I'll be running the following: Mesa Boogie Rocket EBS Octabass MXR Bass Auto Q A synth of some kind which is yet to be purchased... So nothing to extravagant I suppose. Look forward to hearing back from you all. Many thanks Jamie

Good thread guys... I reckon Sly and Family Stone's - If You Want Me To Stay oozes Funk and Groove...oh yeah!!! And Me'Shell Ndegeocello's - Make Me Wanna Holler has sooooo much feel and groove... Away from the typical groove genres though, I'm really digging the new Arctic Monkeys album, and Crying Lightning really gets my bass face on...

I'm confused here...what's the difference between series and parallel when it comes to cabs? Is parallel taking a line out from the amp to 2 separate cabs, so 2 8 ohm cabs? And series, taking 1 line out to cab A, and then taking a line out of cab A and hooking it up to cab B? And if both were 4 ohm, you'd create an 8 ohm load? Forgive me if I'm asking some what elementary questions!

I used to have a fretted F Bass with the string spacing of 17.5mm...it's not that bad at all actually. F Bass's are real beauties and they feel soooooo nice!!!
yeah i would probably like a 1x15 to go along with my 4x10 but its the impedence thats stopping me......any idea what my output from my ashdown 600h(575watts) would be if i ran 2x4ohme cabs in parallel?
It'd need to be able to handle a 2 ohm load firstly wouldn't it, and It probably won't offer any more output, you'd just be moving more air is all? You find a lot of the older SVT's go down to 2 ohms as the cabs back then couldn't put out the full power of the amps, so you'd have to get 2 great big 4 ohm cabs to sort out that problem. My old SVT II put out the same wattage at 4 and 2 ohms.
Gibson for dark. But a Tbird? Hmmm... Very much depends which version. ... My old trace 12+15+18, however, is only two strong chaps and a van away from a roped off demolition zone powerhouse tonality with most any input.... Cheap, too, 'cos it needs two strong chaps and a van....
That last bit cracked me up I have the van bit, and well, i'm not a weakling, so nearly there As for your first comment on the T-bird...which versions would you say fit into this category? Everyone else... Thanks for very for your input...and Razze06 - you can run but you can't hide, ha!
The website doesn't make it entirely clear, but the mixer doesn't appear to have built-in USB connectivity. They just bundle a USB interface (I'd guess one of these) with it and advise to connect it to the CD/tape phone input/output sockets. That would mean you'd just get the stereo mix on your computer.
That's exactly what I just found out too, which is a bit of a shame. I guess it'd be alright for a rough mix of the drums then, but I'd have to get the levels right before sending the audio to the DAW i guess. Hmm...food for thought! Thanks mate. Jamie

Hi guys and gals, Does anyone know if the Behringer Xenyx 1204 allows you to control mutiple inputs on your software recording plat form? So, say I D.I my bass, the guitar and the vocals, all onto the Behringer Xenyx 1204, and I then hook that up to the Laptop as the Behringer Xenyx 1204 is a USB audio interface, will that then allow me to control the 3 different inputs on the laptop too? Or would I simply just have a stereo/mono mix of the 3 channels, being sent as a single channel to the laptop? Does that make sense? Hope someone can help. Thanks Jamie
There are two versions of the Telecaster . One version ,is the one you've mentioned here. The pickup , is a single coil located in the centre . (sting etc.) The other version 1972 onwards , had just one Humbucker pickup right by the neck. Haven't tried the earlier/'51 version(supposed to sound a little like an upright thud) The other one, is the thuddy type ,with absolutely no treble.
Ahh...thank you very much indeed! Sooo...which one is the one you previously mentioned in this thread then? And do they both feel like Precisions to play then?
