1. My 9 year old son cut his hand badly at 3pm today and I had to send my rig out to be used by.....the first band on,a Led Zep tribute and my replacement at the last minute! I`m really worried about my lad who is still in hospital...but equally worried about the pile of sh*te I might have as a rig tomorrow!! Does this make me a bad father??
  2.
Squirt. ^_^
I left school with one of those.....thought I deserved it seeing as I was the ONLY bassplayer at my school! Sold it to a hippy for 30 quid (DOH!) It probably still has Craigroyston High School engraved on the back with a nail....... Great bass....yours is lookin Niiiiice!
  3.
yeah.... And the thing is, I know thats true.... So where do all the Washburn Status's go Dave?
Believe it not mate....theres a guy on ebay that buys practically all that appear. Only the bargains though...he never goes over £250. He must have a lockup full of them somewhere.
  4.
Exactly what I did with my Kay precision copy... Right after I'd knocked a few lumps out of it doing a "Townsend". It was a fitting end to a very poor copy and the most fun I ever had with it.
I did the same thing to my first bass, a kay sg copy. It was defretted, sprayed purple then launched from the top of a scaffold.... When I see them for sale on ebay listed as vintage I encourage the seller to do the same! It`s the only way to be sure they dont fall into the wrong hands!!
  5.
Hey guys, just dropping another wee note to say my band will be playing again on the 20th of December. This time we'll be supported by singer/songwriter Gavin Taylor and by The Fusiliers, who'll be treating us to a semi-acoustic set. Same deal as before, £4 in, doors at 7:00 and I think we'll be on about 10:00. Maybe see some of you there... Cheers, Eude
Hello mate. I`ll do my damndest to be there seeing as noone replies to anything if it`s NORTH
  6. Was gassing for a natural finish maple spector and tracked down the only supplier in Edinburgh (sound control). Phoned the shop and was greeted by an enthusiastic young dude who told me to ask for him personally and he`d take me through all the basses they had. Good so far! When I got to the shop the next day he was really friendly and showed me all the stuff in my price range £800. Problem for me was...EVERY single bass was horrifically set up and sounded crap as a result! This didn`t inspire me to buy anything so I left empty handed and a bit deflated. Another shock was an £800 Spector doesn`t come with a hardcase! I now own a Warwick Streamer stage 1. Surely they would sell more high end basses if they at least attempted to set them up.
  7. My band Volts are playing in the Bar Fly, Glasgow, Saturday night with Led Zep tribute Led Astray if anyone fancies it! Free pint to the first BC`er that identifies him/herself
  8.
+1 It's a great sound. I've owned an ABM500 for many years. It can sound a bit woolly under some circumstances, but the setup you're talking about should sound really good. 2x10 + 4x10 will certainly make the audience want to visit the lavatory.
I`ve used an ABM 500 for 3 years with only the odd blown fuse here and there. Use mine with an SWR 4 by 12 and a matching 18inch Fane cab with a bullet tweeter that I built myself! Love the sound and it`s certainly brown trouser time when you turn it up
  9.
Hi I'm looking for a Fender expert!! I have the chance to buy a Pre-CBS Jazz Bass with a serial number L36363 & original case. That's pretty much all I know. Can anyone tell me if that serial number seems correct for a Pre-CBS Jazz? Also, how much should I expect to pay? Also, how do I go about getting it authenticated? I assume an expert needs to go and inspect the bass with me to verify its authenticity? Thanks Ian
Fender L serial numbers appear on examples of every model and run all throughout the 1960`s,the vast majority from early 1963 through late 1965. Most L numbers signify post-1962 up through the CBS transition period. Though there are a few exceptions, most L numbers indicate production periods for all Fender models as follows: L00186-L33650: early 1963 to 1964 L34983-L99809: 1964 to 1965 I think the manufacture date is stamped on the heel of the neck...but whether the guy will take his bass to bits for you is another story Hope this helps mate. Dave

Will sold me a cracking pbass/jazz hybrid. Well packaged ,priced, described and arrived when he said it would! Top bloke!! Thanks again Dave
  11. I bought a white Squire jazz in 87 and it was a great bass. Difference to this one was a thin piece of brass banding that ran from the bridge pick up to the bridge. Think thats how they were made originally in the 60`s though feel free to correct. Sure it was £300 at the time..... I`m not sure about pulling out of the sale because someone has not listed it properly....might be held against you
  12.
They *should* be interchangeable. Only one way to find out for sure though - just mind the fragile painted curves at the edges of the neck cutout...
I bought a jazz/pbass hybrid off a guy called Will on this forum and the mighty mite jazz neck fits perfectly in the pbass body. Unsure of what the body is but it doesn`t look like it`s had any work done to make it fit. If the holes marry up I dont see why it shouldn`t work.
  13.
No offence but do you work for free in your day job? If you treat playing as a hobby then fair enough, thats your choice to make and I respect that, but there are too many venues/promotors who think musicians should work for nothing.
It certainly doesn`t feel like a hobby after I`ve helped lug in and set up a 4k EV rig then sound check, then play, then break it all down again and go home at sometime am. Just find it annoying when you`ve done all that work and theres 5 people infront of you because a greedy promoter has overpriced the tickets. Spoils the gig Would just rather enjoy myself than make money! Not too much to ask considering I work like feck all week.
  14.
Is this the place to point out people who get someone else to drive the bid price up? Its pretty obvious when somone bids x.99 that they aren't hoping to win. Heres an example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...W:IT&ih=014 Incarante is me: catherineh5281( 82Feedback score is 50 to 99) £5.99 08-Dec-07 11:01:07 GMT catherineh5281( 82Feedback score is 50 to 99) £5.99 08-Dec-07 10:57:04 GMT incarante( 66Feedback score is 50 to 99) £5.55 07-Dec-07 20:52:13 GMT catherineh5281( 82Feedback score is 50 to 99) £4.99 08-Dec-07 10:56:48 GMT Starting Price £3.99 03-Dec-07 11:15:09 GMT
Could it not also be that you are extremely tight!! If they drove the price up to a whole 10 quid it`s probably still worth it for a decent bridge.
  15.
I really hope that I never get to the point of being in a covers band where I am doing it all for the money and worry about the pay, the day that happens is the day I never play an instrument again.
I would rather play to a crowd of people for nothing than 5 people for £100! My bands playing the Barfly next Saturday... I`ll ask about and see what I can find out for you.
  16. Hello mate! What kind of bands were you in before now? Welcome to the forum! Dave
  17.
I know what you mean, I'm in the same boat. I was in a band for one and a half years, and was told after a normal gig that we were splitting up. A month down the line and this is on our myspace site: "Looking for a BASS player for new project!! Heya, Joe and Matt here from the hit and runs are starting up a new band and we are looking for a bass player to join. We have drums, lead guitar, guitar+vocal set up and we need a bassist to complete the 4-piece lineup. If you know anyone that might be interested, that is between the ages of 20-28 and male then please pass on this message. All members have been in bands with heavy gigging experience and we would prefer that the new bassist to have a similar experience, although it is not essential. Cheers guys; thanks for the memories. I've known the drummer (Matt) since I was 5!
That`s really poor mate!! Have you tried Right Guard? Keeps you dry and fresh for most gigging situations! In my experience these guys NEVER prosper as the underhanded tactics will put off others. Dave
  18.
Spraying or spaying?
Unfinished......bare wood.......not painted!!
  19.
I concur, ugly buggers...
My dream bass turned into a complete toilet as you can see in my avatar!! It played so badly it went straight to ebay without spraying!!
  20. Do you think the pics are detailed enough though
  21. How about an AC/DC themed wedding playing mainly acdc from the Bon Scott era?
  22. See photo for my experiment.....I hated this thing although the parts cost well in excess of £350 (and £150 to put together!) The luthier sent me the bass back to try it out before spraying but it had serious neck dive and the bart pup sounded awful IMHO. One mans trash is another mans treasure....the guy I sold this to is touring with it and the body is still unpainted How about a Spector rex 4 if you like that shape?
  23.
Which are the lucky few that remained in your collection then, Dave? Oh and get some pearl inlays for axe in your avatar P.S. Welcome to the forum.
Thanks mate! That bass was one of the casualties Survivers were pre eb Stingray with Sabre neck, MIJ Sunburst pbass, Yamaha TRB 5, G & L L2000. After only 4 days on the forum I am currently in talks with a dude about his streamer! Wish me luck!
  24.
Your GAS will get worse ten-fold by using this forum! What's that bass in your avatar? Some kind of fenderbird?
It was a project I sold recently. Flamed maple body with Bart mm pup and active circuit. Reverse Chandler pbass neck and badass bridge. Bought all the bits then had them assembled to find it wasn`t for me! The new owner loves it and has been gigging with it constantly even though the body hasn`t been finished yet!
  25. Hello everyone! I didn`t know there were others with the affliction known as GAS untill a few days ago. My wife said to me in July " If one more funny shaped (bass shaped) package arrives at this door....YOUR OUT!" Have streamlined my collection from 11 to 4 and look forward to pi55ing her off again after finding this forum!! Cheers Dave
