1. I can't see any problem with that. If you wanted to increase the string spacing,  that could lead you to a problem like runing out of fretboard. There are several brands out there with adjustable bridges. I think it's just a matter of personal preference.

Edit: i Just remembered that depending on what kind of pickups you have, changing string spacing can generate some misalignments between strings and pole pieces.

2. I've shimed a bass before with relative sucess. And i say relative because the shim let a litle, barely noticeble gap between the neck and the pocket. In result, playability got better but it lost some attack and sustain. Any bit of Wood or plastic that  not beeing in full contact Will have some side effects. Some might ear it some might not.

3. I´ve allways seen music as form of self expression. I love to hear others songs and compositions, but when it comes to play them, even dough it´s fun,  they never felt the same way as creating something. So, originals for me :)

4. I think the Bartolini CF5CBC are a direct replacement. The Ibanez ADX5 and the DX5 were made (i guess) by mightymite.

5.
I don't really buy into this theory... How does the string know how far away it is from the neck? I mean, a string with lower action surely 'moves' as much as one set up a bit lower? Also with adjustable pickups you should be able to keep the optimun height regardless of action. Happy to be proved wrong of course but it's never really made sense to me.
+1
IMO, The pickup magnetic field will afect string vibration and consequently the sound (wether you can hear it or not) So, i guess the distance between strings and pickups will have it´s consequences... not the action.

I didn't know that as i changed from Fender nickel to D'Addario nickel and thought they sounded pretty similar.

Someone correct me if i´m wrong, but i think fenders are made by D'Addario  and in that case, that makes perfect sense.

7. I´ve been looking for a simple pedal switcher but this thing got me thinking!!! It´s great way to save some space on my pedal board. I realy liked to see the Andertons review with the bass. Tempting

8. The other day at reharsal the guitar player was in the wrong key, but whe where all looking to each other to find out who was messing. I confess for a moment i thought that was me :P
Speaking of wrong key ... this video allways comes to my mind. live tv subnday morning at the church..

These under string radius gauges - isn't it just as easy/accurate to measure from say 12th fret to underside of string from 2.5 mm E, graduating down to 2.0 mm G (or whatever your preference) ultimately following the curve of the board or am I missing something in all these years of successfully doing my own basses???

If you´ve been successfull, there´s not much left for us to say :) it´s all about personal preferences.
Sorry if i brought up the string radius gauges as i use them only as part of the process. In fact i adjust the radius of the strings first, only then i adjust the action.
