Bubinga5 Thanks for the interest. If you have any questions for me feel free to email at And as far as being on talkbass, it is talkbass And not every one is going to like my playing or what I do as a musician. For those who may be interested. http://www.thunderrow.com/content.php?941-Jauqo-III-X-Life-and-Music
Sometimes I find it embarrassing to be associated with this forum! At least you seem to elicit an extreme response - it would be worse if people just thought you were mediocre, no?
Well sometimes people want to make them selves seem so big while putting others down. Musicians should be very aware that every one will not like what they do. When I come across a piece of music that I may not feel or even understand I don't go and try to get a hate committee together and assassinate the artist. At the end of the day I personally could care less if some one dosn't like my music or my playing. -
That Jauqo-MCMLXXXVIII bloke for example, his music sounds awful to me, maybe he's immensely talented but I can't listen to him, and he also seems like a bell end.
Thank you for the kind words. -
Well it appears the weight thing has been the deciding factor for me - and I don't mean how heavy it isn't! A few posts previously the comment was made that the sound doesn't have the 'weight' behind it, something I'd been trying to put my finger on. On Friday evening I gigged it at a local pub, on top of my Barefaced Compact. Yes it was loud enough, but something wasn't there that I'm used to with my ABM (and my Klystron which I have recently moved on). However it was lovely to not have the weight of the ABM - I turned up with cab, bass and a laptop bag loaded with amp, pedal and all my cables. Nice. After much consideration, I decided the MiBass is going back and I will continue with the ABM (and also a Terror Bass I've recently acquired). There's just something very special about the ABM that I can't let it go - it has weight on both counts, one positive and one negative, which must cancel each other out lol. Cheers Geoff
Check out the ABM 1000. Lighter than the ABM 500 and headroom for days.

You're welcome Dave.

Chuck likes to work and he's a very social person and he's incredibly giving of his time. For him to not work is very painful, Before Chuck's current health situation he had recently returned from Japan and before that he was working on a regular. So it's not like he has not been taking care of his financial business. Things happen and no matter how much a musician takes care of their finances to have a decent living or retirement, one never knows what health/financial mishaps can come up.
TBH I've not come across JT very often, only that Jaquo MCMLXXXVIII-Psuedonym knobhead. But he does have a horrendous look-at-me bass and he does wear sunglasses indoors when people point a camera at him. These are facts.
Chill with the name calling and lies. I do not and have never worn sunglasses ever. I don't know why all the hate. My 15 string bass is tuned E to C. It's funny how guys talk a bunch of bs about a player while hiding behind a screen name.
Good review. There doesn't seem to be much out there as far as reviews are concerned so this is very helpful especially since you use Ashdown and Know what an Ashdown 'should' sound like.
Thank you. One thing I have noticed about all of the Ashdown amps that Ive played, is that they all have a little something different and extra but one can definetly reconize that they are related to the same Ashdown warmth and versatlyu that so many are familar with. Even the new ABM 1000 class D amp. With the exception of the MK500. A killer amp that is in it's own world
Oh we've met many times, hung out a bit and I've even helped you in the design of 3 of your basses I was talking about Turner in my quote, who I've also met and stand by my original assessment. You I like. But let's not use real names here
Ok I got it. Where have you been? Well you know how to get in touch with me.
Does anyone know how it performs with a single 8 ohm cab? I know it's meant to put out the same power into an 8 ohm load without any form of physical switch, does it work?
I use 4 and 8 ohm cabs and so far the MiBass 550 seems to perform well.
Wow, thanks for a great review of the Mibass
You're very we;come.
Would you say the Mibass can deliver similiar tones/volume as the ABM500? Obviously the ABM has the valve preamp so I appreciate there will be differences, but can it come close?
Yes it would. The first thing you will notice about the MIBass550 is that it is warm and it has a nice warm thickness to it, very similar to the ABM 500. Minor difference in tone overall but it is not lacking in the warmth department at all. I think in a blindfold test it would really be hard to tell if one is listening to a MiBass 550 or the ABM 500.
I've met him, he's a douche.
And to say that you've met me and that I was a douch is a out right lie. I respect people when I am allowed in their space.

Thanks for the kind words guys. And for the record the clip of me playing the 15 string bass was the very first time I had ever played it and it wasen't set up to my specs. And for those who seem to have an issue with me. With all due respect have you ever had an actual conversation with me? Have you met me face to face? No you have not. People on forums come up with reasons to dislike a person whom they have never ever met in person before. Here's a clip of me with my original 15 string bass (from the 90's). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6O0Lgyn6aE

My Ashdown MiBass 550 Experience I recently received a Ashdown MiBass 550. A nice size micro amp and it's not heavy but it seems to be built like a mini tank I wouldn't worry to much about serious damage to it if it were to hit the floor. I spent some time with it just playing it solo(not in a band context) through a Ashdown CL610. After 5 minutes it is strongly evident that it is indeed related to Ashdown. The MiBass 550 has that low end thump and thickness that so many associate with Ashdown. I utilized various techniques and the MiBass 550 was definitely hanging. . The next day I used the MiBass 550 in rehearsal with my band. Bass, drums and guitar( the vocalist wasn't there). Most of the music is very high energetic and aggressive with the bass very driving. With bass effects used on some of the songs sparingly. After spending so many years playing various Ashdown bass heads this little amp let it be known that it is no slouch.. Even though the Ashdown MiBass is a class D amp the low end thump was there. Now does it sound like a solid state or tube amp? I think most would agree by sound alone that it does deliver the low end and balanced highs and mids and at the end of the day I think it would pass with most players who can respect the MiBass for what it is, A micro class D amp that sounds extremely close to the big boys. If you're looking for a bass amp and in this case a class D amp with a lot of highs that can get to the point of brittle with no low end or mid balance or just basically an uneven eq spectrum this is not the amp for you. The eq seems to do what it's suppose to do and in a good way. Overall a well balance eq system that shows through sound and versatility that it is connected to the amp. The bass is definitely warm and for a little more added thickness in the bass frequency department, if you engage the deep button you seriously will notice a difference in the low end. The mids controls does deliver that mid range growl softly or that just a little more growl added if needed. The highs are evenly balanced and not brittle at all. I used my Xotic 4 string (ash body, maple fb) with the Hipshot double D-tuner, allowing me to drop my E and A string down to C# and F#. Does Ashdown deliver in the micro amp department? I would give a huge yes. If you want that Ashdown thump in a well balanced tonally compact amp, Ashdown definitely delivers through the MiBass series. And I'm basing my MiBass 550 experience after having been an Ashdown user and endorser since 1998.

I have been using and endorsing Ashdown amps and cabs for well over a decade. I have yet to run into a problem with any of their amps or cabs. But once I did have to replace a light for the vu meter. I own a LG1000 and it has never shut down on me nor has it given me any type of problem. I play pretty much every genre of music there is and the Ashdowm amps are not at all a one trick pony. Guys before you dismiss the new Mibass it really wouldn't hurt to give one a spin if you get the chance.
