  1. They are very comfy to play must say!
    i think with all its sound options it offers, you don't get the 'distinct one sound' (like a stingray etc). although when you hit them hard they do start sounding musicmany...

    But, i can say there very fun to play! and S/H you can get them so cheap!

    Lots of bass per £...

    I have no idea! us musicians aren't the best for retraining impulse buying tendencies or generally being sensible with money!

  5. Happens to me alot!, i like using a lighter E string, seams to help out a little.
    try GHS fast fret. its great for getting rid on the crap form your fingers.
    the E string has more room for dirt to accumulate i would have though too :)

    edit, you do clean ya strings! sorry dident read all of it haha.

    i f***ed up some of the theory stuff though!, i had no idea it was coming (my teacher didn't tell me) haha

  7. Pretty much as new condition.
    Very good head.
    Only used for a few gigs, not that thats an issue. i always look after my equipment.
    I can post the bass away! i'll take pay-pal etc!

    Personally, I only spend about 3/4 weeks of lessons going through the syllabus for Grade Exams with my pupils (Rockschool or LCM) because really, grade exams are just a limited number of specific hoops to jump through.

    So just walk in, ace the exam and have it under your belt and start thinking about being a performing bassist again :)

    also, my uni of choice said they want a grade 8!

    i havent passed my driving test yet!, i hate it. ide never afford a car anayway! haha

    You just keep the transient, and loose the rest of the note.
    in terms of practical use, its can sound nice when you need that, warm upright-ish sound.
    Also from a producers POV, it changes the mix in a sense. you get more of the note and less of the low FQ hanging around after.

    but the ric, foam mute are poo pants! and take about 5 mins to set up! haha. best off using your palm.

    What kind of bass, is not capable of that though?
    i mean surely the cheapest of basses can hold a note for more than 3 beats, or at least a few seconds.

    i have a £40 bass, and i didn't notice short notes or anything like that. :)

    thats pretty much it... in september i am going to uni to do a degree in music anyway so every little helps.

    Might be cool to have a little bit of a title though, 'hey he's grade 8, that means he's good as stuff' haha.

  16. I hear a lot of possible nonsense surrounding the word sustain and its association with the bass.

    • do brands etc literally mean the note hanging on longer?
    • I own some expensive basses, and cheap ones. and ive never noticed much difference
    • I thought, the string type, and set up would have had the most impacts on sustain, ei the lower action allowing the frets the choke the string from vibrating after the transient.
    • Oh and when do we need to play a note that lasts forever?
    • maybe its because im not really into 'bass players music' haha


    i tried a baddass bridge... not really any different to the stock usa bridge.
    on the note of upgrading bridges. when you loosen string and re-tension them, they sound a little brighter: might have something to the do with the small change in sound, in addition most people time a string change if they upgrade there bridge perhaps?
