I got this, a 2021 anniversary USA Jazz and a MusicMan stingray special this year… all of them had sharp feet ends, unseated frets (the fenders) and all of them had high spots. So they all needed levelling and the ends re crowned. 
 

it’s just how it is with new stuff these days. I think everyone notices sharp ends, maybe not the level frets though. It took me quite a few years to start to see that - but fret work for me is so huge in determining how much you can get on with an instrument. 
 

depending where you live in the UK it’s hard to find a good tech to finish the job, here in Edinburgh I had to wait two months! 
 

Needless to say, this one here is now golden haha.

Trades open, send a PM. Quite open, as long as it has frets. No stingrays though. 

Made 100 times better by Chris McIntyre who has levelled the frets - and perfectly bevelled the edges (see close up photo). This means you can take the action down to paper thin levels. Nut correctly cut too. 
 

bass Bross said the weight is 4kg but my scales are saying 3.5kg either way it’s a light bass. 

Purchased not long ago on impulse. Potentially a dream P bass for many. 
not quite gelling with it - maybe I’m going mad. 
 

essentially as new 2023 apart from one small chip I made minutes after taking it out the case for the first time. 
 

neck is wide but really thin.

A lightweight versatile modern bass. 
I like these so much I have two… this and a 6 string version. But I don’t need both. 

Weight on luggage scales = 3.35kg /3.45kg with some Middle-of-Lidl-£5-luggage-scales 🤠

These are somewhat underrated so IYKYK. the bass player on Krallice uses one of these and also that guy from YouTube, so needless to say these can cover a lot of ground. 

currently strung with Elixer ultra lights. 95-45 coated.

I’ve kept Will informed and decided to exchange for something a bit more modern. I think the Shopify system they use has auto populated the page again so I’ll let him know that it’s come back. Thanks for the heads up. 
 

bassbros been great tho, so even it’s sad the 75 didn’t work out, the experience dealing with them has been positive.

yeah I know. It does sound silly; but it was £1.4K, so quite a significant chunk of change - getting an instrument I think is a bit of an emotional thing in a way. When the honeymoon period is marred with doubt about the truss rod nut not behaving as expected - which may seem trivial, but it’s the kinda thing that sits in the back of you’re head and it kinda spoils it. Yano that's just me though I guess.

im going to think about it for a couple days. Although it plays perfectly and the truss rod works - there’s a small seed of doubt. Which is probably silly but it’s one of those things that I’ll be thinking about every time I play it. So I may potentially send it back for an exchange.

So I got this last week from BassBros. 
 

the truss rod appeared to be maxed out as I couldn’t get it straight after a few turns - so without wanting to break it - I took it to my local tech. 
 

he popped a washer in the give it some more adjustment travel. And it’s done the job. The neck is now almost as straight as an arrow (my preference) and all is well. It adjust as expected. 
 

I did notice however, the bullet nut is now quite a lot closer inside the neck. 
 

should I be worried? Will it explode? I have the before and after photos. I’m worried that it’s like compressed into the neck wood or something but I’m no expert. Even though it plays perfectly there’s a niggling feeling of doubt in my mind that something is not as it’s supposed to be. But it’s my first bass with this type of truss rod so I wondered if anyone else came across something like that?

They could well be GHS Pressurewounds. I use them. They are rounds but are slightly flattened during the process, they call it 'Alloy 52'. They feel smoother than a normal nickel round and give off less finger squeak, they play & sound like slightly worn in nickel rounds without that top end zing you get with brand new rounds for a while. They have black silks, and match your description of them feeling smooth. If you like em, keep em, they're not cheap to buy new. I believe they last well, mine haven't been on long enough to comment on that yet.

I put them on my stingray. Quite a nice combination. still has an awsome slap and rock sound.  The mellowness takes off some of that brittle top end on the MusicMan. I think it could help it sit in the mix without screaming ‘I’m a stingray’ too much  

I think they might be pressure wound GHS 

I did some further googling. 
 

Would explain why they feel soooooo smooth. Maybe a new string to start using.

they do but you have to ask for it. 
 

I got an anniversary jazz and the classic p bass II last month and he got me some Lebellas and and nice wounds on the other with set up. 
 

but for this one I just ask for no strings and I knew I would replace them with elixir (didn’t want to waste a set). 

Sorry forgot to mention these where not fitted by them, but came with the bass when sold to them. 
 

I didn’t get new strings from Bbros (I always normally use elixir anyway)

I got the AVRI from bass Bross the other day. Wondering what strings it came with. I never encountered round-wounds with black silk before - but I’m sure someone here has! 
 

they feel really smooth, almost like they are coated (like elixirs) they also sound pretty nice. 

Upgraded with what I believe are Bartolini BA 9J1 Set (they are dead silent and passive soo..) 

+ Pre amp upgraded to a Nordstrand 2B-4c

been thinking of selling this for a while, I've owned since 2012; my bass teacher at the time had some and I made it my mission to get one as I fell in love with the feel. Have used it throughout uni back in the day for jazz and later in life used it for various metal projects. 

it has jazz pickups but sounds nothing like a jazz; sounds like a Thumb ha! angry, punchy... angry sounding lol. its shape and ergonomics make it comfy to play seated and standing but its of course quite a weird bass if youve never used one; but so fun to play ... time to let it go and let someone else enjoy!

Trades wise- im open really ill entertain anything and can maybe put some cash your way.

Was in the process of postage so have a MusicMan retail box and boatload of bubble wrap and a protection racket semi hard case ready to ship. The hard case has a dodgy ZIP so it’s more of a vessel for postage than a case; still a bonus tho! 🤓

Alright so, I got my eye on something and this shall be the sacrificial lamb...

Been using this for a while and had lots of fun playing it. it's a PJ so nothing crazy. you already know the drill. its stated as made in USA but a few google searches mention in shares some parts made in Mexico... im not sure what the law was in the US at the time where it was okay to state made in the USA depending on the domestic parts - perhaps someone could fill me in. either way it plays and feels just as good as any US fender own. 

condition wise - quite good for a bass this age; its 27 years old.

I used bathroom digital scales and got an estimate weight of 4.1kg but that is a very rough estimate im afraid I took an average of about 6 weigh ins with me holding the bass.

Thin Jazz neck. Anodised gold pick guard.

I had the frets polished and crowned at my local luthier back in portsmouth a year ago. they are still super shiny! always lemon oiled and well loved after. I gave it a deep clean and took apart the bridge and cleaned that too. also took the neck off to reveal its production date. 

no major dents or nicks in the finish - but does show signs of use throughout the years as you can see in the photos. The finish on the back of the neck has worn away in places and I have periodically given it a rub down with scotchbrite to smooth over any blemishes and keep the satin feel. 

(maybe?...) I think the previous owner had it in a conservatory for a few hot summers perhaps as some of the finish around the decals has cracked; other than that it's in great shape.   

it may need a new tone pot; its working but sometimes cuts out until give it a little wiggle - so for gigging I would give it a look at. could be a simple fix.

collection preferred but happy to talk shipping, I would use overland express via UPS as recently did a trade with these guys and everything went smoothly. 

I recorded a demo of some sounds with some rusty ass playing! but its gives you an idea of its tonal character - its quite a snappy bass.

I sold mine on eBay many years back, but there must of been a reason I think I 16 year old me must have wanted a flashy active bass! 

I remember a while back seeing a post on here on the 'eBay weird and Wonderfull' section getting blasted saying it was fake (ouch). So was pretty cool stumbling across another one online.

I used to have one of these in white, was my first real bass...when I first started playing. I remember 15 years ago not seeing anything online at all in regards to info on these. Still quite a mystery though.

Anyway; just a curiosity really.
