My Vox just arrived and it is going straight back.

The action is so high that even with the E string bridge saddle bottomed out the E string is 6mm off the fretboard at the last fret. This is not a set up issue.

I've asked for an exchange as I really like the bass - it's lightweight, it balances very well and it looks cool. But it's unplayable.

Hopefully the replacement will be ok.

That’s exactly what my first one was like

  2. I bought one last night, I had one before briefly and returned it, it was a bit of a disaster to be fair. But for £200, I don’t mind some fettling and modding. I’d rather like an artist with the maple neck tbh, but cant stretch to one. Fingers crossed this one is better than the last one. It’s due to arrive on Sat.

  3. Another Headrush user here. I bought two to use as pa/acoustic rig/bass rig/guitar amp, and they’re great. I rarely use them these days as I prefer IEMs, but I certainly don’t need to lug two about as I did on the day pictured, one is plenty for monitoring on stage. If I were to use them as room filling backline I’d take both just in case. They sound great and I like sounding onstage  more like the out front sound, as opposed to sounding like a bass rig that only I hear. It helps me judge things like pickup and eq changes more accurately.

  4. Well, it was Cheltenham race week for me. Normally I do 6pm till midnight for five nights on acoustic and vocals, on an upstairs/downstairs rotation with two other guys in the first pub next to the race course. But since the whole nearly dying of covid thing, I can’t do that anymore, so I was on bass this year and only did three shows a bit further into town. The first two were standard race week stuff, just fighting off utterly hammered, red-faced, tweed clad muppets demanding oasis for every. Single. Song.
But last night was a birthday party in a local pub and was just lush from start to finish, one of my fave gigs of the year. Plenty of space for me, no muppets crashing into me (ok, one did take a tumble over the foot lights, but only one), I had a great sound in ears and had great fun locking in with the drummer. Top night.

  5. Fab little speaker that does a great job of being a stage monitor for bass/vocals Or a guitar amp, or an acoustic amp. Or a party speaker, or a gazillion other things. Very nice it is too.
Just a bit unused these days, so up for sale for collection only from Cheltenham. Some scuffs from being moved around, buts it’s had almost no use!

  6. (I’ll take more pictures later)

GAS has struck, so whilst the other item

is available I’m closing my eyes and listing my SR1200.
I’m sure you know the deal with these by now! Nordstrands, beautifully made, plays and sounds just amazing!
This one in particular has a figured top that shifts and shimmers, it’s impossible to capture in a picture, it almost looks ‘wet’ sometimes. Quite stunning. It’s a well played bass with minor knocks and dents from gig life, which I’ll picture later. It comes with the fancy Ibanez matching case.
Totally collection only from Cheltenham I’m afraid. I know this limits me, but I’m doing a pgce and don’t have time to blink let alone sort postage. I also have no packaging.
The bass is fully working, very well set up, with no issues and has just had a brand new neutrick barrel jack fitted too. Only listing whilst I’m GASsing!! If I miss out on what I’m after, this will be back out gigging with me as usual. I don’t actually want to sell it, but you know how it goes!

Does the Rolls unit have a limiter to prevent ear damage from inadvertent mic feedback etc.? I would always want some kind of limiter (ideally brickwall) in any in-ear device. Just curious.

One of them does, I think it’s the pm55se version. Mine doesn’t, but it’s not been an issue yet.

Do you use a cable for your bass? If so, one of the best bets (in my opinion anyway) is to get a combined instrument and IEM cable. Ernie Ball make one (I put a link in the thread previously) as do the likes of design-a-cable.

You can then use a wired headphone amp, such as the Behringer P2, placing it next to your pedalboard/amp input.

Definitely cheaper and more than likely better quality.

This is precisely how I do it, in fact, I have one of each - a designacable and the Ernie Ball one, it connects to my Rolls headphone amp on my board where I can mix my bass signal with the band. Its a nice, elegant and simple solution that works for me as I don't need to stray too far or leap about anymore.

  9. Odd one for me last night, private do in a local pub, so nice and close, but our engineer was unavailable and it’s never quite the same with the stand in guy, good as he is. I couldn’t seem to get my IEM levels quite right, it was all a bit odd. Crowd were into it, but in a subdued way, plenty of dancing, but otherwise no other interaction at all. Strange night, but we were liked and handed out cards and got paid and fed, so fine.

  10. I’ve had a change around! Super flexible set up with four possible DI out locations, options for running out to my frfr cabs in mono or stereo, or to an amp, or as I use it, to my IEMs through a separate route to my FOH signal. All mounted on a Pedaltrain novo 32 with a choice of soft or hard cases.

When I got mine, the cable upgrade was a "free gift". I didn't bother using the original one till the upgrade died a few years later. After a day or two of using the original one I ordered a new upgrade cable! I just couldn't deal with how the original one tangled as soon as you looked at it wrong!

I can relate! The tangling drove me nuts, so I upgraded and I'm SO glad I did!

Black perspex/acrylic steet available from Amazon makes good covers. An alternative is clear sheet and spray the back with matt black paint. Gives it a look of real depth.

Thanks, I thought about that, but my skills are super limited and I could cut this with a craft knife 😂😂 (as you can tell!) If I tried using anything more I’d slice off a limb and burn the house down 🤣

  13. It’s not quite a perfect match 🤪But I finally got something sorted that’s more substantial than the cut out ice cream tub lid. I consider it a mk2 variant, I may make another and work on improving the fit and maybe spray it black as the stain doesn’t take the same way as the body.
    :)

Just need some flat head screws next to stop my clothes getting snagged.

  14. Same here, I used to lug a mahoosive trace stack around, sometimes two of them!…and a 2x10 combo as a bass monitor!! (Such a fool!) At least they were taken in a truck and handled entirely by roadies on some tours, which helped.

Then I went through a pile of class d lightweight rigs, markbass, genz, bergantino etc, before switching to a pair of headrush frfr 112s when the gigs started to get a lot more frequent and I got older!! That quickly switched to one 112, and now my rig has vanished and my pedalboard has shrunk and I’m on IEMs, which is amazing!.. Same sound every gig, at whatever volume I choose, load in is quick and easy, as is a quick line check,  and packing up is just putting my bass in it’s bag and zipping up my pedalboard. :) it’s ace. I don’t miss an amp other than for looks factor. I truly regret not doing it years earlier.
