Neeph, you ever played one?
No, never played one. I dunno about them or Explorers for that matter; I get a real 80's hair metal feeling from them. Now if you offered me a go on an RD Artist... mmmm :)

2.
whats wrong with it?
OK

1) Flying Vs have set necks, not bolt on.
2) The neck plate is from a Grabber
3) The neck is probably from a Grabber - if it's genuine at all
4) The pickup looks like the Grabber one - besides, a proper Flying V bass has 2 pickups
5.1) According to all the info I can find, the Flying V bass first came about in 1981
5.2) According to shipping records there were 2 Flying Vs total shipped in 1965, and they would have been guitars, not basses
5.3) The serial number quoted, if indeed it is right more likely belongs to a 1974/5 Grabber if accompanied by a "MADE IN USA" stamp, although God only knows where he dug that number up from - a genuine Grabber would have had the number embossed on the rear of the headstock. I see no sign of it in the supplied photo.

All in all, it looks like a butchered Grabber, and it stinks. Unless you want some Grabber spares, then get in there.

Anyone else smell guano? Especially nice touch is the stuff about Bonehead lifted links and all from Wikipedia :)

(link corrected - cheers Musky)

4. Keep the original bridge and use the original screws, the screwholes are the same, so no damage will be done. Pup cover will be maybe a problem. You could get a new pickguard and again keep the original one, then you won't harm any of your original gear, hence no devaluation...

5.
Hi there Bassists.

Yesterday I was playing and suddenly I saw that one of my trussrods had slipped out!?
WTF! I've never seen this happen. My action is still ok and I haven't picked up any warping on the neck. Should I just screw it back in?
Erm, one of your trussrods "slipped out"? What do you mean? No offence meant by this question but are you sure you mean the trussrod? Where is the damage? Got any pics?

6. I've been bothered by an annoying rattle on the open E string of my OLP MM3. The rattle can be stopped by applying pressure on the string above the nut. I'm also rather perturbed by the fact that I can move the string out of the nut slot by hand even when it's correctly tuned and therefore under tension. Never been able to do that so easily before. What is likely to be the problem? Nut too low? Nut slot not filed correctly? Should I just fit a new nut? If so, what kind do people prefer around here?

7. I see they're still selling them by total length rather than scale length, despite my message to them. Shows you the level of expertise we're dealing with here.

I always try to give the benefit of the doubt, but be prepared for it to be a poorly put together bit of firewood, sorry. Cheap acoustic bass guitars are not that good in my experience. At this price point, expect poor cosmetics, iffy electrics and bad intonation.

8.
Yet another rare and vintage Fender from a zero feedback newly joined seller in, yes, you've guessed it, the far north of Scotland! Amazing how many of these live up there isn't it!

I'm on the case :)

9. Was giving my Epi EB-3 some TLC last night, when I fancied that I saw the bridge posts coming out slightly from the surface of the body. I was changing the strings anyway so I thought I'd investigate. Sure enough as I slackened the strings, they settled back down. "Uh-oh", I thought. With the strings off and the bridge itself off the posts, I had a look at the posts and managed to pull one of them out of the wood like *snaps fingers* that. WTF? Are they supposed to be that loose? There's definitely play in there, so that when string tension is applied they are pulled slightly towards the neck.

I can't believe that the bridge can be so loosely tethered to the body. I'm tempted to squeeze some No More Nails or some other hole filling adhesive in there and glue the buggers in place. Thoughts?

Was that the white one with P/J pickups? I was watching that, but I didn't go for it in the end.
