1. Sorry, I've been a lazy bum. I've primed the headstock and given the neck to my sis. In the process of priming the body. I'm brush painting - too cold for spraying up here - and it's a laborious, boring, mind numbing and frustrating process, I have to sand half of what I just painted to get the brush strokes out - basically I suck at painting. Also been sidetracked by adding active electronics to my OLP MM3 - naughty!

However, I've been thinking lately about how I've been really neglecting my playing and spending too much time acquiring gear and pottering about in the workshop. So I'm going to get this to my sister for painting, then I'm suspending all current project work (apart from refinishing the Hagstrom for a mate - no access to spray booth, waiting for warmer weather) in favour of getting some playing done. Organising a jam with a guitarist friend so that should help.

The slabs of wood and various hardware I've collected won't melt or decompose if I leave them for a few months :)

  2. WD Music - I have had excellent service from these guys in the past. Highlights include them sending me a tracing of a mex pickguard to see if it would fit a squier, and no questions asked next day replacement of faulty goods.

Stringbusters - used them twice now and both times goods have been delivered the next day, including one time when I placed an order late in the afternoon.

  3. It's the only direct replacement that I'm aware of. Looks tasty. The saddles look identical to the Hipshot A style bridge, which I have used. Very versatile, string length, height and spacing all easily adjustable.

I've been considering getting one for my Epi EB-3 - I'm really not keen on the old "bridge on stilts" thing and the posts are slightly pulling out of the body :)

  4.
Never seen one in the flesh - and I've looked. Pity they copped out & put Fender type pups on it.

The PJs do look wrong - perhaps some judicious routing and a couple of SD ripper pups might make things a bit more normal looking? But for the cost+effort+time you might as well source out a Gibson on eBay.

  5. I believe in praise where praise is due, so hats off to Stringbusters. I ordered a set of Super Slinky 5 at 4.30pm yesterday, standard delivery and they're here this morning. That's pretty damn good. They're too quick even for their own website, which is showing my order as "Awaiting Processing" :)

    Nice one, I'll be back.

  6.
The USPS do a flat rate International envelope that costs 'a flat rate' (not surprisingly) $11 for up to 3 or 4lb in weight (can't remember exactly which)
Cheers for that info. Don't think it'll matter in this case - looks like the seller's in the huff now :)

  7.
if you don't like the postage, don't buy it.
I won't be. The jumped up charge completely negates any saving over buying locally once you take tax into account, which was the whole point.

  8. Just finished* an email exchange with an eBay seller in the USA wanting $60 to post an EMG 40P5 pickup to the UK. I think that's completely ridiculous considering I've had a 36 5/16" long, 3 1/16" wide, 1" thick neck blank sent to me for $40.

Anyone else agree with me, or am I being unreasonable?

    * I assume it's finished - I haven't heard back after I told them that I thought they were taking the mick, in firm but slightly more polite terms.

  9.
Anybody any idea where I can source a replacement saddle in the UK? The only online source I've located thus far is in the USA.

I'm looking for a chrome finish 1st/G saddle and I'm really struggling.

As always, any and all help much appreciateed.
Allparts sell them, but they seem to have revamped their site and it's all over the place at the moment.

They're there in the list, but when you click on them, it's 404 time :)

  11.
Hello, this is my first post on here so greetings to you all.

I am quite new to playing & not sure about a good guitar or a bad guitar.

I have seen a bass on eBay & wondered if anyone could identify the year or where it was made as fender squire precision bass guitars don’t seem to have a light coloured fret board with a black body so I am presuming its an older model or that the neck & body don't match.

    Thanks.
With those tuners, it's definitely an Affinity series or whatever was cheapest at the time. Why don't you just ask the seller? If they're any serious about selling something, they'll be happy to answer your questions. It probably says on the back of the headstock or on the back of the neck at the heel where it was made and a serial number.
