Thank you for the input on dates, with that info I have narrowed it down to two:
13th July
3rd August
I'll leave that for people to chew over (and see if anyone else chimes in) then it'll be onto deciding on a venue. Which is a posh word for... pub. So gutted that CASC shut, it would have been a stick on for such a meetup

Another new venue for Nine Lives, and I'm sure that the vast majority of people here will have no clue where I'm on about, but we'll be playing at Maud Football Social Club on Saturday.
No, I'm not making these place names up, dammit!

So far all ok for me except 12th July & 2nd Aug.
FYI the 19/20th July is when the Tall Ships are in Aberdeen.
Oh, good shout, probably best avoid that weekend then - place will be hoaching with tourists probably in a sort of mini version of how Edinburgh gets with the Fringe.

I'm keen to make this happen, so let's get some ideas bouncing around. Main issue would be "when".
I'm thinking weekends are best. For me, I have a gap in my gigging schedule next month with folk away on holiday and whatnot, so I have the following weekends free:
12th/13th July
19th/20th July27th July
2nd/3rd August
Any of those work for folk?

Oh, I'm out, it's getting far too nitpicky in here.
All playing is equally valid, regardless of who's doing it, where it's happening, whether or not it's for monetary gain, what time of day it's happening or any other stupid variable you'd like to throw at it. I don't care any more. Some of you have made this thread unbearable.
Go play a bass or something-

What's shocking about this? I don't like playing bass on my own either. I only play bass at home when I am composing or learning new songs. Otherwise, it's always playing with others, be that rehearsals, jams, recording or gigging. I really don't see the point in just picking up a bass because it's there. There's got to be a purpose to it.
That's just me though. Other opinions and motivations are available, it's all good.

Question for everyone:
Is a bass only "properly played " at a gig? If you choose to make music on a bass at home is that not "playing" it? Why would that be true for a bass but not a piano?
Doesn't that kinda assume that a bass player can only ever play his instrument as part of a live band? What if you're not in a band?
I have no idea where you got this idea. You certainly didn't get it from me. But I'll play along.
No. Playing is playing, doesn't matter where it's happening.
Why is this question even being asked? What triggered it?

In February I ordered a Fender Kingman 2 SS bass from Bax Music.
Paid through PayPal,bass arrived safely and very pleased with the bass and the purchase & delivery process.
However, the website showed an extra season discount which had not been applied to the final price.
After an email exchange Bax promised to issue the refund once the 30 day returns period had ended.
No sight of the refund until today when I received an email offering a credit note to the value of the refund. There was a long explanation about the bankruptcy and how the new company could not refund cash but could honour their obligation with a credit note.
So all good really.
While it's good to hear that they are honouring obligations from before the bankruptcy, I'm a little miffed (with them, not you!) that you got sorted out for an issue from February, but I've heard nothing yet about my back order from September last year

Squier Jaguar H bass - medium (32") scale. Modified with an Ibanez pickup out of an ATK800 (quad coil), switch added for series/single/parallel switching. Fender high mass bridge. Black pickguard, original white one will be provided. You can even have the stock pickup if you want, but the Ibanez pickup sounds so much better.
Great wee bass in excellent condition, only a few very minor dings. Modified to sound way better than stock and much more flexible/useable. Selling at the price a stock one would, because I'm lazy and I know that mods are basically worthless in the market. But don't take the mick - no offers please.
Would love a local-ish sale (Aberdeen), but can box it up and ship it at buyer's expense.

I gig all my basses, regardless of how much they cost. Instruments which don't get gigged get sold.
Edit: I'll expand upon my answer. While none of my basses are truly "irreplaceable" I do own several which would be a monumental PITA to replace in terms of sourcing, plus any mods I've made to make them play/operate the way I want them to. So while not strictly speaking "irreplaceable", I'd rather bloody not have to!
I own basses which make me happy, and I'm happiest when I'm playing them. So they get played. I take simple precautions when out and about - not leaving them unattended (there is at least one band member in the "stage" area at all times), using an appropriate stand for the bass (like not trying to precariously balance a T-bird on a mini stand for instance) and just taking the time and care to handle them properly. Been gigging since 2009, and not once have I had a bass stolen, picked up and mucked about with, knocked over or damaged. Not saying it's impossible, but with some simple safeguards, chances can be minimised.

Good call, maybe having varifocals but as shades could also be an option in retaining “coolness”.
I played last night in shades because I left my regular glasses in my car... at the drummer's house.
I wouldn't recommend it - could hardly read the set list on the floor. I imagine I looked hella cool though 😎

EDIT: It's on for 13th July 2025. Brewdog Union Square, 2pm.
It was a light hearted joke
Then I started thinking - why the hell not? I know many of us are very busy most weekends, and through the week evenings are littered with rehearsals and other sorts of stuff. But if we could arrange a time when a bunch of us could get togther (a Sunday afternoon perhaps?) - nothing as grand as a bass bash - just a meetup somewhere in the pub to talk shite about basses or bands or anything else you fancy - would any of you Aberdeen city and shire bassists be interested?
No offence taken if it comes to hee haw, but if you don't ask, you don't get...

How do you reorientate videos? LOL
I use ffmpeg (and google the arcane command line/incantation required every time) - other more friendly tools are probably available.

Last night, played with Nine Lives at the Harbour Lights in Peterhead. As intimated above, had a rather nasty summer cold which I had fought through the worst of, but still felt about 75% strength. Still, the show must go on, sponsored by Lemsip and Kleenex if necessary.
Got an instant boost on arrival - the venue has hired a sound engineer again! The last few times we played there, we had to rather annoyingly set up our own PA in front of their much larger tops and subs and do it all ourselves. No PA lugging for us last night. Instantly that perked me up! We got greeted by a friendly lass who had been mentored through 7 shows but last night was her first gig doing the sound solo. She did a great job and it made for an unusually quiet and civilised stage - our PA is vocal only for the most part. Nice change. My amp was my own personal monitor and it was barely on. Got a great monitor feed, could hear everything, nice balanced FOH sound, fantastic - lass did great for her first gig by herself.
As you can imagine, having the sound basically taken care of us made for a very relaxed gig, and the adrenaline pulled me through enough to still get out there on the wireless and get up to no good. New move unlocked - hitting a ball on the pool table with the head of my bass. Need to work on that one because I muted the strings while I was doing it, but as I always say "people listen with their eyes" and I got a cheer for the audacious move. The game of pool was over BTW, there were two random balls on the table and no white in sight - so I didn't eff up anyone's game.
Anyway, had a great night - it wasn't super busy but we did have folk up dancing and that's all you need. While we were packing up, to say the heavens opened was an understatement - a monsoon of rain, massive lightning strikes and booming thunder. Which thankfully moved on by the time it came to loading the cars. But the storm had moved in the direction of Aberdeen, so I ended up driving into it like a storm chaser - rain so heavy I had to slow down to 40 or so on the dual carriageway - massive lightning strikes - even saw the shape of it one time and the thunder came almost immediately after so must have been close! And my jammy luck didn't end there - when I got home proper, the rain was off again! God bless Scotland and its nutty weather
Gear was a long, shaggy dog story plugged into a snotty hankie. No, wait - it was the Yamaha BB1200 followed by the Burny LSB-80 into a barely awake Markbass rig.

Can't say I'm looking forward to tonight - had a stinking cold for the past couple of days and while it is abating, I'm still only operating on about 75% strength. Wireless shenanigans may be curtailed - hopefully won't need a chair.

Sorry, but if you're in one band then that's it, you don't play in other bands. Help out in an emergency as long as no one else minds. Not enough gigs to keep you happy, get more gigs. Wrong type of music, leave and join another band. I think you get where I'm coming from.
Then how do you satisfy a desire to both play covers and be in an originals band? You're entitled to your opinion, but this is not a "one size fits all" type situation.

There has to be a degree of respect, and synchronisation of calendars. Whichever band books the date first, that's it - none of this "my other band got a better offer" BS. I'm in two bands, drummer's in two and a bit, singer's in two - communication is the key. So far there has only been one oopsie, and I sorted it with a gig swap with another band - but made it plain that it was a huge pain in the rear end and don't do it again

I must admit I don’t use eBay enough to know of this feature. But with a bass guitar that is enough to put me off because it shows they don’t really know much about the instrument. I then have concerns on maintenance and how it’s been treated under the seller’s ownership, or worse it has been stolen.
Or they're selling it because a family member died and they got it in a will, knowing absolutely nothing about it, and not wanting to. There are more shades of grey than you think.

I used to wait until eBay dished out free listing offers too.

Ooof, why would you do this to a Barefaced cab?

This is pretty tame sauce compared to what goes on on social media. I just read through it and to be honest I think most of it was pretty relaxed. I think you're making a bit too much of it - don't be precious. If you ignore your hurt feelings and actually read the thread, you'll find advice in here - for instance you'd get a better price if you redid the covering. How is that negative?
Here's some direct negativity for you - I think the cab looks bloody awful. So what? What of it? Why do you care what I think? If you like it, you're not wrong.
