1. What I do is turn the bass up as loud as I can and play the fastest, muddiest sounding slap I can. Then I play Smoke on the Water, or seven nation army. Repeatedly.
2. Just recorded this for a friend. The new floor in the conservatory has given the room some great acoustics. Just a little bit of a longer piece but you get the idea!
3. My band plays in drop tuning (Csharp), and I use DR DDT strings. They feel pretty much like normal strings. I had some rotosounds on my old bass and when I downtuned it felt like I was playing spaghetti.
4. Not so great. We have a new singer, and while we're not quite up to proper gigging speed, we played a couple of tracks at an acoustic open mic night. I have a fretless acoustic I've been practicing with for the occasion. Our playing was fine, we'd practiced quite a bit and re-jigged one of our metal songs, but the crowd was full of hipsters, skinny jeans and "ironic" jumpers. I've never felt more judged in my life. It just had that pretentious feeling, very awkward. I can't quite explain but the atmosphere was horrible. Can't wait to gig electric in some pubs again...
5.
Thanks mate! Still enjoying the $$? Let me know if you ever want to sell it on. I may want it back
I love it, sorry dude! You'd have to pry it out of my cold dead hands at the moment. If for any reason I need to sell it I'll let you know first I put some of those DDT strings on it, they're amazing, cheers for the recommendation!
6.
My go at the Rush Limelight guitar solo.
I recognise that little studio! Nice playing dude
7. I had a bass lesson last night and my teacher made some corrections to my fretting technique. It all makes sense and I don't think I strained it, but today there's a lot of pain in my index finger between the 2nd and 3rd knuckles. It doesn't feel inflamed at all but now and then there's a sharp shooting pain. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem? I played my acoustic bass at practice last night and that has a high action so maybe that contributed... Apologies for the new thread, I had a quick scan of old threads but found nothing relevant.
8. I use DDT strings for Csharp tuning, they're fantastic. The last strings I used were like spaghetti in comparison, flopping all over the fretboard. They just feel like normal strings.
9.
Jesus. What a total waste of my time that was. And what an irritating bastard.
Get out of my head!
10. We had a similar problem with our last singer. He's an old, very good friend of mine, and it was him who invited me to join the band when the old bass player couldn't commit. When I went to Japan for work for a year, he did a bit of moonlighting for another friend's band, which was fine. When I got back, he told us he'd become their main singer and would be doing both bands, but ours would "take priority". Eventually he was much more focused on the other band, couldn't commit to gigs or some practices, and the ones he did come to were awkward and uncomfortable. He'd dropped a few hints about balancing the two and "maybe we should look into getting another singer" but also said "I would never leave the band, you'd have to kick me out". We had a chat when he wasn't there and decided that we'd ask him to leave. It was a difficult choice as he is such a good friend and I was really worried it would damage our friendship, but as it transpired, he was so stressed with balancing both and work and fiance, that it's exactly what he needed. If the drummer is such a good friend, you need to talk to him.
11. If he's that good a friend, then surely you could say something along the lines of "are you sure with taking all this extra stuff on you'll find time to practice drums outside band practice?", without causing problems? *edit* Also, love the band name. Snake? Snake?! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!
12.
friends are more important than music.
+1
13.
Nothing by me as yet (lack of ability , practice and confidence) , this was recorded by a customer from Luxembourg There are a few others out there, by other players, I recently added some flute to a demo by my band, coming soon...
Nice tone!
14. They look lovely, any chance I can hear some audio?
15.
Shakuhachi? ,I take my hat off to you, I play wooden western flutes myself but could even get a note out of one of those.
Cheers, it took me about a week before I could produce a stable tone. So frustrating. I've been lucky to always have a teacher around too which helps. I had a go at playing a silver flute and found that thanks to the shakuhachi embrochure (sp?) I could sort of produce a sound. I am intrigued by the idea of wooden flutes, are yours Irish ones? End blown or with a fipple/reed etc? I must say I don't know much about flutes outside the one I play... Very nice playing Krysh/Michael, sounds like you're having fun! I wish I could play guitar like that
16.
If you can't talk utter nonsense and then laugh it off without a second thought they, unfortunately, are not really a friend. So, either way, it doesn't matter. Drink responsibly
+1 My best mate and I speak utter nonsense to each other all the time. Lots of single words, or phrases set us both off in floods of laughter. He said the other day "if someone was to listen in to one of our conversations, they'd probably come to the conclusion that we're both mad".
17. *edit* I've just listened back to this and the playing is appalling. I'll record something better soon! [s]Not my best playing, by any means (hence why it's listed as private and I'm only posting on here!), but I thought it'd be a more appropriate, and perhaps "accessible" recording of the instrument, especially as the normal music for the flute is solo zen meditation music written in the 13th Century...[/s]
18. I used to have hair down to my lower back. I started doing brazilian jujitsu to complement my karate training, and found that the hair got trapped too much, so I had it chopped off. Girlfriend was really upset, but I donated it to http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/ , which makes wigs for children with cancer. I feel like less of a man at metal gigs, but it's so much easier! I was only a kid in the 80s but I think I'd probably have had some massive hair!
19. I enjoyed that, can't say I've ever heard the song before though. You have a good voice and I wouldn't be able to tell you'd not been playing guitar long!
20. Can't really hear the bass as I'm on my laptop at the moment and the speakers suck, but what a voice on your singer!
21. And now I know. And knowing is half the battle! Really nice playing though. Something about pipes stirs the soul!
22. That was really cool! Uilleann pipes? How do they work exactly? Do you pump them under your [s]left [/s] right arm? Obviously you're not physically blowing into it like Scots pipes..
23. I don't have one to upload (yet) but I'm really curious to hear some of you guys play your other instruments! I'll upload something soon though. So let's see it! Whip out those bagpipes/accordions/spoons!
