  1. Honestly at the moment, I'm leaning towards having one main bass and a backup, that's it. I'm also having somewhat of a gear/midlife crisis at the moment! ๐Ÿ˜‚
  2. Wish my 5 was black instead of brown stain.... Still may refinish it though
  3. I've just been playing my BBN5ii too, astonishingly good really! I used it at band practice on Wednesday and it sounded fab through my Rumble 500. ๐Ÿ‘Œ
  4. Was really hoping that Yamaha would be at the guitar /bass show next weekend, but it doesn't look like they are.... Wondering if it's worth trekking across to the Yamaha store when I'm in town next Saturday to try the whole range out! ๐Ÿค”
  5. That's absolutely right, and in fact all SL models from here on in will be Paulownia, they have ceased using Cedar.
  6. Thanks very much for the info, very helpful!
  7. The woods in the super light models are lower density, and that is according to sandberg themselves. It's how these models are so lightweight, and why they can't offer high gloss finishes, because the paint just won't take to the wood well due to the low density.
  8. Thanks for the info @jrixn1, very helpful! I'm really digging a kinda more traditional sound at the moment, so I'm not sure this is going to be right for me, as much as I'd like it to be! I was considering asking them if they'd do a VT5 passive SL..... Could be cool!
  9. Hi folks! Just wondered if anyone here has played or owns a sandberg super light bass, specifically a 5 string if possible. I'm really tempted to order one, but I'm just wondering if the lower density woods used would result in less low-end thump, and there's potential for it to sound a bit gutless, especially the B string.... Any opinions much appreciated! Thanks ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘
  10. That's quite interesting, I've not played one of the newest series, but they've been touting them as having thinner necks than the previous series.
  11. Hi folks! I've not had this amp long, and whilst it's bloody fantastic, it's not quite for me. It's in superb condition, and comes with a thickly padded vinyl Hotcovers cover (not originally for this combo, but fits pretty well). Most people seem to know all about these anyway, but for those who don't, it's a seriously good sounding, loud combo, that belies its compact and lightweight form. 500w class D amplifier section (350w standalone without an 8 ohm ext. Cab), 2x10" custom designed eminence drivers and a switchable horn, eq pre-shapes, drive channel (footswitchable), 4 band eq section, and all the ins and outs you might need. I have to say, I've been absolutely staggered by the quality of sound and volume that this thing produces! Incredible bottom end for a combo this size (beats the pants off the Markbass 2x10 combo I used to have), and ample volume for the vast majority of pub /club /function gigs. Our rock covers band is pretty damn loud, both guitarists have VERY loud valve amps, and I don't think I got the volume above halfway on the two gigs I used it on! Couple it up to another cab, and you've got a full 500w! I'm in Hereford, which isn't known for its great transport links, but I'm happy to meet within a reasonable distance. I'd prefer not to ship as it'll be a PITA to package, but it's not entirely out of the question. Will be in London area on Saturday 21st for the bass show if that helps anyone. Thanks for looking, and any questions, please get in touch. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘
  12. Well, I've booked a ticket for Saturday and looking forward to it, just need to figure out how best to get there now! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'd also best get practicing some low quality power slap for trying basses out. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘Œ (joking, obvs)
  13. Thanks for the tip off! Sunburst unfortunately..... Not really a sunburst kinda guy.....
  14. I think what he was getting at is he wasn't always unplugging it because he didn't realise, but even after he started unplugging it every time, he is only getting 8 months out of it.
  15. Active basses usually use the input jack to activate the preamp (I. E. When the jack is plugged in, the battery circuit is made and the preamp activates), therefore whenever the cable is plugged in the battery will be draining, even in passive mode. At least you know passive mode works without a battery, so even if it does mid gig you can carry on playing in passive mode. Not all active preamps are like this, sometimes 'passive mode' isn't a true bypass of the preamp, and it won't work without a battery.
  16. FYI folks, the George Dennis Wah DOES seem to be working with a battery, I want to review the wiring to the 9v input and see if I can get that working again.
  17. Hoping to come again, and may even legitimately be on the prowl for something new this year!
  18. Yeah I do prefer the looks of the new ones, but it's more about the sound really. I had a BB414 a long time ago, and never really loved the sound. I think these ones are ceramic, and from the videos I've watched the new Alnico 5 ones sound better (to me - highly subjective! )
  19. My finger was hovering over the button.... Just not sure about those pickups, not sure if I'd rather spend a bit more and go for a 435
  20. Are they THAT good? Have you tried a 435 by any chance as well?
  21. Well actually, here's the thing.... I've been playing active basses exclusively for about the last 10 years, but have had a bit of a revelation recently! I bought a fender player series jaguar on a whim, and BOOM! Tone heaven! It was perfect for my band! Really nice big, organic sound. I returned it because although I can cope on a 4, I found I did really miss the B string and feel more at home on a 5. So essentially, I'm kinda trying to replicate that experience with 5 strings.... Therefore the BB range is a strong contender! After my post earlier, I'm now looking at the 435 again ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ indecisive as ever!
  22. Still keep looking at 735's.... VERY tempted..... Wish there were used ones coming up for sale, but maybe that's testament to how good they are!
  23. Thing is, he's really keen and offering much more than I'd get for it in the UK... Had a look at CITES last night, and this bass wouldn't be affected. Will think further....
  24. This is sounding like a lot of hassle....
  25. Thanks for the advice BRX, hadn't considered that! It has an alder body, maple neck and ebony fretboard, so I'll look up a CITES list from somewhere and see if any of those woods are subject to the regs (I don't think they are). I was under the impression that it was a USA only thing, but I have to confess I haven't looked into CITES in any detail.
