2.
I love mine. Good luck with the sale.
Cheers dudes. I seriously never thought I would get shot of this, it's just that I've found the Stingray to be the horse for my course, if you will. This is the classic case of a bass that deserves better than sitting in a corner doin nowt.
 3.
Oh, she is sooooo beautiful.
I know, and she'll do OWT! In fact, why am I selling her?
 4.
PM'd
Replied!
 5. Mine are both holding up at present but much more punishment and a spare might be handy!
 6.
Oh, the porniness!
Hell yeah! Please note the coquetishly shallow focus in the pics! She's gorgeous!
 7. Right, my second Lakland also has to go due to a newfound and previously unthinkable Stingray habit! This is Christina, she's a luvverly blonde with an unbeatable bottom (end). She's a standard 55-02 with a nice grain pattern and a factory-fitted black-white-black pickguard. I bought her new from The Gallery in 2003 (or was it 2) and have always tried to look after her. As an original early Korean Skyline she has the Bartolini pups and preamp. She's played second fiddle to her black sister Alicia, a DJ5, since 2007/8, so though she's been to loadsa gigs she's sat on the stand for most of them, and is therefore in really good nick. The worst wear is on the pickup covers, tho this was hard to show in the pics. The reason I tended to play with her sister ( ) is because she's a bit polite and complex whilst her sister is DIRTY (oh yeah). Christina has always been the better recording bass however cos she's so versatile. The B string is awesome as expected, and the sound across all five strings and 22 frets is smoothly delightful, with a lot of tones coaxable from a bit of tweaking. She's been kept in a case all her life, but I'm keeping that for my Precision so I'll ship her with a good gig bag. The non-standard securable knobs are fitted because I found when using the passive-pull feature the original (no-grub-screw) volume knob used to come off in yer hand! However, the original black rubber knobs will be included. Also will include a Jeannie gold anodised pickguard I got of ebay for a bit of variation, although it doesn't quite line up all the screws (all but one iirc) as it was made for a US 55-94. Straplocks were fitted from new, I'll include the receiving ends too. Strings are nearly new Elites (ss). Please be gentle with her, she's a good girl. It feels like I'm trafficking my own daughter here! That said I'll sell her for £750 shipped! I'd consider trades(+/-) for something Fendery and 5 string (but probly not actually Fender as I don't think I could adapt to the different b-string feel). For eg a Ray 35, a Sub 5, a G+L/Tribute 2500, Sandberg Californias etc. http://s1131.photobucket.com/albums/m556/s...2%20for%20sale/
 8.
As it says in the title, am looking at both basses, but know very little about either if I'm totally honest. Played a few Warwicks in the past (albeit briefly) and not really sure. I think this one's German, but will have to check. I do know its got 2 band act/pas eq and jazz style MEC's The Ricky on the other hand- I know SFA about. Anyone got any experience of them What's a fair price for each model? Will have to make up my mind fast though! lousy indecision... ( If it was a Fender or Gibson I'd be fine )
To me that's a bit like choosing between a kick in the nuts or smack in the face.... is there a cash alternative? I spose I can at least think of some people I admire who've played Ricks by choice... Geddy, Chris Squire, Bruce Foxton, Nicky Wire and of course Macca for a bit, tho that's about it. They mostly seemed to move on from them though. The only ones I like who've been linked to Warwicks were 'endorsees' who never seemed to actually be seen playing them but always had their old Fenders instead. I know, have the warwick, turn it back into a coffee table and sell it to some schmuck to finance something proper .
 9.
I still prefer the old fashioned thump of a Precision bass in all honesty. Still its horses for courses, there are some folk on here who wont be seen dead with a Fender.
Interestingly (or not) I'm a recent convert to both P basses and Stingrays and I find that my Ray 5 HH seems to do a passable hot-p-thump by using the two inner coils of the four and rolling off the treble a bit. Yum. PLUS a both-on-full-j-ish sound out of the outer two coils AND a frankly obscene ray noise out of the classic ray bridge 'bucker. And all with the help of a quick and easy to visual-check 5 way switch. I'm rather taken with it It's like a kinda slightly aggressive tour-de-fender. Or, pretty much as Gareth put it more eloquently: 'Yes, its never going to have the Fender passive tone, BUT, it is almost like an extension of it.'
 10.
- believe me, I once ended up there pissed out of my mind!
Tip for the OP, as a North American gentleman, unless you are very familiar with the English vernacular you may construe the above to mean 'I once arrived in sed borough in a state of some considerable annoyance'. Fyo 'Pissed' actually means 'drunk' to us Brits. Although if you accidentally ended up in Epsom you probably would be quite annoyed... unless of course you were too pissed to care... Anyways...glad to be of assistance sir And +1 for the Gallery in Camden- last time I went in there it wasn't ALL expensive gear, and talking to the delightfully German proprietor Martin will give you an authentic pan-european experience to-boot, what more could you ask?
 11.
Hey guys, Just putting my Music Man SUB 5 up again for a feeler as forgot I listed it ages ago. The tone with this is extremely solid. I run it through a Ampeg SVT 350 incredible powerful tone. I am looking to Part Exchange this as im currently looking into new gear and looking at Warwicks. If anyone is interested please pm me. I am in no rush to get rid of this just seeing what is out there. Will upload more pictures soon the headstock is chipped and bit of paint wear on the scratch plate. This bass has been played and toured from UK, Europe to South Africa so not in mint condition but does sound powerful and great. Any questions please ask. Comes with solid flight case and I am based in Kent. Not really interested in selling it for cash just looking to maybe try something new. Also interested in 4 strings.
Dude -any interest in Laklands? I have a couple to trade but I've fallen for Stingrays big time and this would be the ideal partner/backup to my new 'ray 5HH. The Lakies are a black DJ5 passive Lakland DJ5 for sale or a natural 55-02 Lakland 55-02 for sale.
 12.
That is the EVO II not III. Doesn't have the same compressor from memory. Still a good price though.
The II was UK built as well IIRC (mine was anyway) - where the III is Chinese - if any of that matters!
 13. As for the two split pickups, Fender did this already in the 80s, so it's nothing new. Say hello to the Elite II.
...Say goodbye to the Elite II more like. And the preposterous Urge as well. Anyhoo - I'm only riffing off being old and reactionary - I don't really care, 'each to their own' and all that. If someone wants an ugly bass or one which cost a mortgage and the custom builder couldn't even be bothered to paint it (I'm still joking) then it's entirely up to them. I guess I've gone for enough marketing scams in my time like thru-necks, stringing thru body, hi-mass bridges, long scale yadda yadda to know it rarely makes any real difference. Less than a good setup usually. It's inevitable that the makers keep churning out different ideas to keep punters buying, I just hope there's some good ones in there somewhere...
 14. It's wrong - all wrong! 2 P pickups on a Jazz body? Whatever next? Basses costing £10k made out of coffee table? Necks and bodies in one piece like some horrible overgrown guitar? Six strings or more? Slanty frets? To paraphrase Dame Katherine of Tate: The dirty bastards.
 15.
Same sortof thing, but with a trusty Precision. Quite why I held off from buying one for so long, when all my favourite bassists played them, and it was the sound I wanted - well I`ll never know. I`d take a guess at stupidity though.
^^ Both of these! The Precision and Stingray V I bought this year have both been revelations and it's a shame I didn't get one of each years ago... I think a P shoulda been my first bass and a Stingray should've been my first 5. No regrets tho... it's all been good along the way. It may be drifting off topic but I do wish I could start again with a lightweight amp like my current Markbass - it would've saved me some bad backs throughout the years - it was a Peavey 4x10 that buggered mine up first.

 17.
You are more Likly to get a good on than you would with fender. But if your dream bass is the SR5, save the extra pennies and make a custom otlrder with Darren at Bass Merchant. You can choose anything from the current options, also if it does come and it's duff they'll take it back and start from scratch. It's a long wait but it's worth it. I waited 3 months for my big al.
Yeah, get the Stingray - I just did. Definitely don't regret it. I emailed round and got quotes back around the £1600 mark (the Bass Merchant was the only one that didn't reply funnily enough) - in the end GAK could do some other stuff I needed too so Graeme there did me a good deal including a 5 string HH string in honeyburst/maple. It's a stunning looker, nicest finish I've seen, fantastic neck, and provides a bit more varied tone than a single H 'ray. The pikup selector switch is great after the twin volumes of a passive jazz - it's very quick and intuitive to go between the warmth of all pups/the inner two sets of coils to the FILTH of the bridge pickup! Luvvin it. If you can't stand the 3 month wait for a build-to-order then see what the importer has in stock (at strings and things www.musicmanuk.co.uk) - I did and it was in my hands within a week. I thnk they have a black/rosewood V HH in stock, a couple of other single V Hs and a very nice HH Sterling V in natural/maple. GAK are just down the road from the importer too - so tend to get them a day or so quicker than anyone else if you're impatient!
 18.
I'm think of buying the five string Jazz as they are incredible it's just a shame that you only have a choice of one colour on it still great basses none the less! great work guys!
I'd have bought a contemporary J5 in almost any colour but blue. It is a shame. Plenty selling tho so good on em.
 19. Why don't they put some proper frikkin tuners on it tho. Jeez. Ruins it for me, being incredibly shallow and that.
 20.
Agreed. I currently have four basses. A modest "collection" by the standards of some on here, but for me it's a lot! Status series II worth about £1200 Cort Curbow 5 string worth about £300 No-name Jazz copy cost me £100 Squier affinity P bass cost me £65 Guess which one I play most at the moment? The P. It just feels right in my hands and sounds great. OK, the replacement GFS pickups help there, but the neck is just lovely. The Status is, of course, more versatile and a much higher quality. The J copy does that "J" sound which obviously no P will ever do. The Cort has another string, and three band active EQ.... But I love the P at the moment. There's no accounting for taste is there?
For god's sake don't go by the standards of people on here! When I joined I had three basses. 3 basses. I've now got six and I dunno how it happened. I've only been on here three months! Tarts the lot of 'em
 21. Love it! Goodonya Marcus. You mean the £10k Fodera I saw in a Thomann advert last week won't make me a better player? Really?! The try and borrow it for a gig advice is brilliant - Martin at the Gallery used to offer a 'leave something here as a guarantee and you can take it away to try' approach, which I could never do 'cos I live in the middle of nowhere and was never gigging in london village- but a what a top geezer, it makes me wish I'd bought something with him recently! The sound in the mix at a gig is something I can never guess at from a noodle in a shop. I was wondering if it was just me... I think this vindicates my view that all those little oiks slapping the crap out of pointy stuff in the corner of music shops EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME are actually just jacking off and need to go and play actual music with people. I was offered a gig once by the bird who used to run our local guitar shop - she was a classy guitarist and her band was really well regarded locally but I had to laff cos all the time she was talking to not-flash-but-reliable me she was totally ignoring this victor-wannabe kid who was constantly looking over and turning the 'slappy-noise' knob up...as if to say ask me! ask me! I had to go then but I hope she went and unplugged the little muthaflipper. I didn't take the gig either cos I was too busy Sorry, I don't get out much... (except to gig).
 22.
I picked up this today from Mylkinut (cheers mate, by the way). This is the first time I've played, let alone owned, a Stingray. I have to say this is one of the nicest basses I've ever used, it's just so easy to play and sounds fantastic!! Ordering an Ampeg PF-500 on Monday. Tuesday's band rehearsal could be one of the most fun yet!!
Nice! Mine comes on Wednesday. I bin bad tho. We had a band 'hangin around between gigs' day in Cardiff on Saturday and there was this sunburst highway 1 Precision in the window of GM. An amount of goading ensued plus an offer from our drummer to buy my cv60s P and bob's your disgraced and disowned uncle. That's two basses in a week - a record for me that's never to be repeated - and no, I'm not proud of myself.
 23. NO CONTEST! Get the G+L already - a choice of three where two weren't horrible would be more of tough decision! OK - sorry to those of you who like Ibanez and Warwick, lovely playing instruments yadda yadda. It's all IMHO obviously, and I'm clearly an unashamed biggot where these things are concerned. But the fact that you want a bass to keep and grow old with surely lends itself to a classic timeless design doesn't it? The G+L looks like an electric bass guitar. It won't age. Leo Fender designed it. If it ever goes out of fashion it'll come back in again. The other two look like a thinly disguised coffee table. I've never owned any of these btw, so this is a bit like a catholic priest giving marriage guidance - but I've owned loadsa Fenders, and Fender wannabes, and they're honest working instruments that just look and feel right. They are simple and functional designs - particularly so in the case of the passive models which most G+Ls aren't to be fair. If you can, also look at Fender's higher end mim stuff, or even the CV Squiers which are infinitely mod-able. Other alternatives could include secondhand Lakland Skyline DJ's/Osbornes/Glaubs, or for that matter Sterling Rays are sposed to be nicely put together but a bit of a one-trick pony perhaps. Great trick though. I hear great things about G+L - a well known retailer recently described G+L to me as 'the best instument Leo Fender ever made' - I took this as more of a complement to the brand than he intended I think. From your list, gotta be the G+L. Get it bought - and let us never speak of this again.
