That's just because of the Warwick bridge design, you need to use a taper wound string to get it loaded into the bridge properly.

2. Hey guys,
just dropping another wee note to say my band will be playing again on the 20th of December.
This time we'll be supported by singer/songwriter Gavin Taylor and by The Fusiliers, who'll be treating us to a semi-acoustic set.

Same deal as before, £4 in, doors at 7:00 and I think we'll be on about 10:00.

Maybe see some of you there...

Cheers,
Eude

You're a terrible tease Dood!

You got PM!

4. Awesome looking spec dude.
Jon does make a lovely Jazz Bass.
Brewing up something similar myself at the moment...

Looking forward to seeing this one develop, reckon the ebony head veneer is gonna be sweet!

Cheers,
Eude

Hey bud, I've got an EHX Big Muff, the older battery only russian reissue I believe, like this >>

I can get you a proper pic if you want.
I've owned it from new, still got the box, barely seen much use and cosmetically it's in great nic.
I think either the input or output jack might need a re-solder though, as it's been slightly temperamental recently.

Would you be interested in this plus a bit of cash?
Not sure what it's worth though...

Cheers,
Eude

6. Hey bud,
just to let you know, I went for a 33" on my recent custom, as I have big hands with wee fingers, and it's been great!
It's a 6 string and the low B on it is fine too!

I reckon you could go to 32" for a 4 string without noticing too much of a difference in tension and tone.

Shorter scale basses tend to sound a bit plummier, i.e. less defined on the lower notes but have a much sweeter sounding upper register, something like a nice Jazz Guitar...

Reckon 32" would be the one to go for, however, probably a good idea to maybe try and find a 32" and give it a go before you start cutting into the walnut.
On the one piece neck thing, I don't know much about construction of basses, but I'd maybe use some kind of reinforcement, graphite, or steel rods or something, just as a precautionary measure...

Good luck!

Eude

7. Bloody Hell Si!

You are one lucky "OldGit" :)

That's a very very sexy bass.

When I get geared up, probably end of Jan/early Feb for my next go, I'll be popping down to see Jon, with bass in tow.
How about we try and organise some kind of BassChat Shukerite gathering...

Assuming Jon'll put up with us all!

Cheers,
Eude

8.
Bugger off, I saw it first :)
Don't worry bud, was just an impulse reaction, I've got very different plans for the next one.
It's going to be called "pub bass".
I reckon that single cut would be a little bit too boutique to fit the requirements...

Cheers,
Eude

9.
There you go Eude, Rich and the Jon Shuker stock Single Cut
Now that's one sexy bass!
Must not reach for credit card....

Thanks Si.

Anyone got pics of the headless single cut 4?

Eude

10.
Ha ha I was very, very much more happy than it appears in the pictures ..

It's just embarrassment at not having any circus bass abilities or a party piece to play in such skilled company, Mark and Rich and Rob (who helps Jon) are all great players whereas I'm a bit more of a root-fifth player..

Speaking of which, time for some more playing, well maybe I'll just sit and look at it for a few more minutes :)
Look at it through a lens dude!
We need more pics!

(p.s. might have some exciting Shuker based news myself very soon, )

11. You can spec up a Status Smart Bass with passive electronics on www.status-graphite.com in the Online Shop section,
Comes in at £760 with a single P pickup, an ash body and chrome hardware.
More pickups and other stuff puts the price up though...

Just a thought though,
Eude

12. Hi guys,
Just a quick note.
My band Ten Storeys High are starting a new monthly residency called "Ten Storeys High & Friends" tonight in the Voodoo Rooms, 19a West Register Street, Edinburgh above Cafe Royal.
The deal is, we play every month and get different bands in each time, either they support us or we support them depending on who's the bigger fish.

Anyway, if anyone's at a loose end tonight here's the details...

Doors at 7:00 pm
Torpedo Buoy at 8:30 pm
very cool/weird stuff using looping, trumpet, acoustic guitar, musical saw with bossanova influences... (www.myspace.com/torpedobuoy)

Hoochie Fig at 9:15 pm
Very talented and quirky acoustic duo, funny and heart warming songs, very nice guitar work too
(www.myspace.com/hoochiefig)

Ten Storeys High at 10:00 pm
My band, difficult one to describe, maybe "acoustic rock stylings"? Think Nick Cave meets Crosby Still and Nash meets the Buckleys meets The Waterboys meets Mercury Rev, I could go on, but I'm getting bored... :)
The songs on our myspace page don't really represent the band properly, but a proper album's on the way...

Oh and it's £4 at the door

The next one will be Dec 20th

If any Edinburgh based bands, or anyone willing to travel, would be interested in playing with us, give me a shout.
Needs to be semi-acoustic stuff, or at least quiet, also being able to bring a wee rent-a-crowd is always good.
We hate all this "pay to play" crap too, so we will split the door between the bands that have played and the ticket price will vary depending on the number of bands etc.
The venue holds about 100, there's a proper PA and sound engineer.

That's all folks,
Eude
