1. In our old room, the ceiling was fairly normal height, but triangular (there's a word for that!?). The walls were made of some really cheap plaster board, loads of windows, a little bit of brick. We had a great sound in there, it's fairly lively, but not mushy. The roof collapsed so we've moved to a new room within the warehouse at work. This room has a very high ceiling, also triangular. It has very hard walls and ceramic tiles on concrete floors. We're getting loads of reverb, which isn't so bad. The drums sound great, but when the guitar and bass kick in it's one big wall of mush. I think it's a problem in the low end, but i'm no expert. Any advice on what to do? We could drape something to create a false ceiling. I could buy some rockwool and make some bass traps. Could we sort it with EQ? There are some pictures here.
2.
Could well do, how old is it? Condition etc. Cheers.
I'm not sure, I bought it used at least 6 months ago. It has a couple of the screws missing but otherwise perfect. I could add cash, let me know what you think!
3. Playing the bass, yeh, it really winds me up. I used to point it out to the drummer, and he'd take it badly but try and work on it. Since i've been playing the drums, it's become obvious to me just how difficult it is to retain a constant tempo. If I don't think, and just play, and everyone else stays at the same tempo, it's OK. However, as soon as I think for one second "have I slowed down? have I sped up?" then I get paranoid and feel like I should try to fix it, and then paranoid that if I "fix it" i'll ruin it! So yeh, it's hard.
4. That's so weird! They lock the session into one big secure file? You should have asked for just the audio directory. EDIT: Sorry, that wasn't to antagonise you, just another possible solution.
5. Your bass goes into the input of your amp, FX send goes to the input of your pedals, output of your pedals goes to FX return. If you have the sensitivity on your pedal set to the max and you're still getting feedback I guess you're too close to the amp and you need to rest your fingers on your strings to bring the ouput of your bass down below the threshold of the gate.
6. I used a zoom multi for ages in my band. I used it blended with a compressed signal, which I would sometimes add distortion to with another pedal. I also had another dirt pedal in line with the Zoom. I used the zoom so that I could switch to complicated effects with the press of one button IE phase+fuzz with the phaser rate controllable with the treadle. Also wah and digital delay with the wah controlled.
7. It could be that the gate needs to be in the FX loop?
8. Marshall Echohead is a cheap introduction to delay. It has 6 (I think) very different modes, plus all the normal controls and tap tempo input, stereo output etc.
9. I'm going. Someone posted a thread about it a while ago and I got the impression it was sold out, but obviously not.
10. Nice! That's a useful custom pedal.
11. It's just I work right next to one so can take back stuff if it's wrong etc. If they don't have the right values, i'll order online from somewhere else. Thanks for all the help guys!
12. OK, i'll just get the closest matches I can from Maplins and giove it a go. Thanks!
13. Thanks! Now I just need to know if I can use any opld replacement caps?
14. No, replace all the silver with black!
15. The volume keeps going up and down in an SS amp. I've asked around before (it's been sitting around for a year while i've been lazy/busy) and it was suggested I replace the "output caps". I had a look inside and thought it might be wise to just replace all the big caps. Am I at any risk here? It's been sitting around for at least 12 months. Are there any specific "musical" caps or do I just get the matching values from Maplins? Thanks in advance for any help
16. That's hardly big news. What a(ir) con! ba dum tsh
17.
obviously i didn't get those cos i sounded like a spoiled brat in my original post... which i acknowledge but if i was 20 years older there would be a different kind of atmosphere in this thread.
You're openly acknowledging you think you sounded like a spoiled brat in the OP (I didn't think that!). No-one would get away with that on BC no matter how old they are. You'll see plenty of abuse thrown at pensioners on here if you hang around
18. Cool!! What's the "big news" for the new year then?
19. More sympathy guys, he could be a suicide risk!
20. Interesting! IMHO you would do very well to make guitar sound (really) good through bass cabs alone.
21.
Without getting all Health 'n' Safety obsessive about it though....
Yeh don't do that, it would be so un-cool.
....using a chainsaw without eye, hand and toe protection is fecking stupid!!
oooops!
22. can't you just tape up the little two and use the big two? Maybe not.
23. I want to remain aloof from the thread, declare it immature and generally distance myself from it, at the same time as slag off Victor Wooten. Do I need my own arm chair? Or a throne?
24.
why has no-one mentioned the xp100? Has all the whammy setting of the bass whammy, plus alot more, and can be got for often cheaper than a 2nd hand wh4
Yeh, that's what you want. I had one until I lost it :-(
